You know, I just used, "stuck in the middle with you" on my daily roll call a week ago with Stealers Wheel in mind. AND, I used it in a daily roll call earlier last year WITH a you tube vid of him singing stuck in the middle with you (which I can't find).

Yes, I am a long time fan. RIP.

Watch, listen, enjoy, remember.

Jack is absolutely right.

The news of Gerry's death is assuredly affecting me a bit.

Years ago I received an e-mail from Gerry after he heard my cover of his song "Steamboat Row". He liked it, and he thought that I sounded like a younger version of him; a very big compliment in my book.

I was also involved with a group of musicians that put together a 2 CD tribute to Gerry Rafferty's music. Gerry did receive a copy and he was reportedly flattered and honored that we had created it.

I particularly enjoy Gerry's early work with a group called the Humblebums, which consisted of Gerry and Billy Connolly, now much more famous for his comedy works than his music.

Gerry had been reclusive for years, and it has been reported that he intentionally withdrew from the whole music stardom bit after (and I'm paraphrasing here) "years of traveling everywhere and seeing nowhere." It's unlikely that he was ever going to make a major comeback, but there was always that possibility. Now there isn't. Any comeback he could make now will have to consist of the recordings he made during his lifetime.

I never knew the man personally, but I will miss him. I'm very thankful that his music did not die with him.

rock.

No offence to those that were fans - but I will never forgive him and his "Baker Street" for making people think that sax solos in pop songs are acceptable. They are not. "Baker Street" was the thin end of the wedge that led to atrocities like Kenny G. Oh the humanity....

Foo Fighters does a cover of Baker Street without sax. Grohl uses a guitar for the sax part. Not bad, but not great either. But they rock the chorus pretty good.
