I'm actually done with mine now. Decided to make it an instrumental, like last year, except good-sounding, unlike last year.

On hurdle cleared - I learned the chords to the song I'm doing. (The internet can be a savior to the lazy musician)

Now, I need to actually start recording something...

Finally bought the song that I want to do for my giftee... this youtube link thing sucks sweaty balls! Beautiful song, and I don't want to change a thing in it. And yet, I'm going to have to break out the Leonard Cohen/Brian Jonestown Massacre for this one...joy!

And while I hope my gifter picks the Tom Waits song, I'll be happy with whatever comes :D

I don't have any particular hope for any song over any other, although my top two would be Lonely Rolling Star and whichever John Brodeur song I chose.

Incidentally, the other day I got to chatting with John Brodeur on Twitter, and found out he's coming to San Francisco in April. I'm definitely going to have to meet him when he does. "Tiger Pop" was one of the first I bought on CDBaby and one of the few that I ever specifically need to listen to (along with Radiohead's The Bends and OK Computer and The Beatles' Abbey Road). And now he's been working on a tenth anniversary remake which I'm looking forward to hearing, although part of me is worried he might change the character of the original which was beautifully lo-fi and emotional in all the right ways. But in any case I have all his albums and he's one of my favorite indie musicians of all time, which might be a bit surprising considering how my tastes usually lie.

Mine's going to be late. Maybe up to a week late. Sorry about that. I've had family in town, and it's been more intrusive than I had anticipated.

Looking forward to getting a song done on the new compy, though. :)

I recorded a first version, but decided it sounds way too much like the original. So back to the drawing board...

Would just like to say that I'm available to help out with stiffees this year. I love the GOM, and am sorry I arrived too late to participate properly.

Just got the instrumental track from the person I'm collaborating with, so with any luck, this'll a) be a pretty damn good piece, and b) in by the deadline.

Not sure I will make the deadline - but I am going to play my sympathy card.

Look at the video on here:
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/819 ... -toowoomba
this was taken a few hundred metres from my office today. My wife's office was evacuated, and she only just got to her car before it was washed away. Most of her collegues lost their cars.

More importantly though. I now have wet carpet in my studio and there is an unpleasant smell in there. OK, a new unpleasant smell in there. And my swimming pool is full of mud.

Can I have an extension?

Aw crap, I wondered if you were in the thick of that mess! That's really scary. In fact, I'm more freaked out by the fact that your wife made it to her car immediately prior to its being swept away. I think I would have likely yelled my goodbyes to my vehicle from a high/dry spot and hoped for the best in lieu of risking the real-life log flume ride that seems to be happening there. EEEEK!

I'm glad you're all OK for now.

And er... I um... don't have any particularly compelling excuse to justify an extension... let me see... my work DIDN'T get swept away in a diluvian disaster?

Shouldn't have waited until the last minute!

Seriously, though, damn, that sucks. I hope you didn't lose too much stuff and that what you did lose can be repaired or replaced easily. Pretty lucky that your wife didn't get washed away along with her car, too. Isn't that one of those rules of thumb, like "if there is a giant wall of water heading towards your car, don't try to rescue the car?" Like how if it's stalled on a railroad track or something?
anti-m wrote:(Sheesh the world is really kickin' it rapture-style these days.)
Yeah it's almost as if rising global temperatures have been leading to changes in ocean currents and the polar ice caps to melt, leading to the presence of even more cold water which is changing ocean and air currents even more, causing even more extremes in local weather patterns. Oh, but there's still snow in some places so obviously global warming is a myth.
