A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
Via Sunderland
Due: Sunday, 01/30/11 9:59am pdt
optional challenge: don't work ahead
mp3 with artist name sent to fightmaster@songfight.org
subject: Via Sunderland
message: Your Band Name
attachment: yourbandname_vs.mp3
Do you see that people, it's an mp3. not a wav. not an m4a. an mp3. Thank you.
Also, it really helps to keep your email out of the trash can if you actually put the name of the song in the subject. I FUCKING SORT FOR THAT when processing.
Finally, if you could tell me your band name in the body of the email, I would know where you want the caps and spaces.
Let's not even talk about ID tags. That's post-graduate stuff. Let's see if we can get the basics, first.

I can't help but feel as if that .mp3 instruction is directly solely at me... still feel bad about that.

Re: A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
So the title shows as "Via Sunderland" but you suggest merely "Sunderland" as your suggested subject for the e-mail and file name. Not to nit pick, but as long as we are clarifying details, that seems inconsistent with what i thought the past standard was. I'd like to do it right, but would have made my subject "Via Sunderland" and my file "rossdurand_vs.mp3."
Please clarify. I hope all due respect is implied and inferred.

I want to do a song this week* - just so I can break the rules. Us kids just don't care what The Man has to say. Keep it street homeboys. Keep it random.

A rare posting from me just to say this title is superb. I went to university near Sunderland. It was grim. Please someone submit a vocal track in a mackem accent. That is all.

I, too, am a tad confused by the "Via Sunderland" vs. just "Sunderland" thing. I prefer "Via Sunderland", it has more of a.... I dunno, poetic vibe to it. I'm using that one, especially since it's the one listed on the home page. I guess it's time to get working on my first submission...

The title is "Via Sunderland", and I have changed the first post in this thread to reflect that. Thanks to Ross for pointing out the error, and the point is taken - everyone makes mistakes, even me.

i think that "via sunderland" sounds like the name of donald sutherlands illegitimate daughter who he wouldnt let use the family stage name. maybe i have my song right there.

My intent was not to point out mistakes, but to help support consistency. I hope that makes sense.Spud wrote:The title is "Via Sunderland", and I have changed the first post in this thread to reflect that. I understand, Ross. I was just pointing to the irony of me making such a blatant error in a post where I take others to task for their errors...

Re: A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
Once again, I have an idea and a lyric and my mouth isn't hurting too much, but whether I can have a song put together to submit by a week from Sunday... we'll see. The title is used in the song, but only in a passing reference. Lots and lots of words, I'll have to sing it really fast. I feel a polka coming on...
Nope, face pain again. Lyric is over in the lyric marte if anybody is looking for some last minute inspiration. I'm scheduled for surgery on 2/23 - not quite brain surgery, but one of those where they have to remove part of your skull for a little while

I'm thinking a little Copacabana satire.

Re: A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
ive been accused of much worse. either way, i did use the title as a name in my song, but i suppose it could have been any chicks name that had the right amount of syllables, and ended with an "-and" sound e.g. "tricia hoggleband" (which may have been a better song now that i think about it)Billy's Little Trip wrote: HA! Hm. Four hours ago, I had nothing but a few scraps of lyrics. I just submitted a song. That has got to be some kind of speed record for me.

i have personally taken this to heart and written the past few songs each in one individual sitting... usually on the couch, watching scooby doo.

Re: A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
I feel like I'm doing something wrong... it's supposed to be a huge challenge to write and record a song within the space of a week, but I would have been able to record and submit the song the day it was posted. But I didn't. And never did... my guitar actually sounds pretty ugly when it's recorded through GarageBand though, and my playing wasn't very smooth. Oh well. I'll try again this week!

I am having trouble parsing this post. Are you saying it's so easy that you can't be bothered?FormerDominator wrote:I feel like I'm doing something wrong... it's supposed to be a huge challenge to write and record a song within the space of a week, but I would have been able to record and submit the song the day it was posted. Re: A new title and some protocol reminders (prefight)
Oh no, I'm just wondering if it's a bad sign for me that I can write and record a song so quickly if it's supposed to be difficult. I never submitted my song last week because I just never got around to it for some reason, and the bit that I recorded sounded horrible anyway.
