Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
Bandcamp have finally figured out a great way to recommend items based on purchases: let the bands themselves do it.
Who else is on Bandcamp? Who wants to get into a sort of aggregate mutual-admiration circle of recommendations?

Re: Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
i've got a couple of albums on there, but my sales are exactly Zero via that site. So, uh, I might not be any help. It's pretty disappointing, actually.

Keep in mind that Bandcamp is just a platform, not a promotion system. It's up to you to promote sales.HeuristicsInc wrote:i've got a couple of albums on there, but my sales are exactly Zero via that site. So, uh, I might not be any help. It's pretty disappointing, actually.

Yeah, I was going to say, I can't even find your stuff on there, and you don't link to it from your own site anywhere. How are people supposed to know about it?
BandCamp isn't even intended to be seen as a site on its own - it's really designed to be mapped to a subdomain or even to become a top-level site (although they fully admit that they aren't quite ready for that just yet).
Man, Roymond, when are you going to put out an album? I think I'm saving my third recommendation slot for you.

I have a bandcamp account, I think, but I've never actually used it. I didn't actually think that it offered anything I wasn't already providing myself via my own website.

Re: Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
You're providing easy-as-pie album sales with amazing digital fulfillment (providing the purchaser with a choice of formats and top-of-the-line always-upgrading metadata support) and an easy physical-order tracking system? Wow!
(Bandcamp isn't trying to replace your regular music/news/whatever touring site. It's just trying to make the commerce part of it easier.)

Re: Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
Maybe that's my problem. I'm not really into the "Commerce" part of it right now. I just put my stuff up for free, and occasionally I make physical CDs to sell, but those I make myself, and usually at a loss.fluffy wrote:

Re: Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
Those links are hidden in plain site. I was looking for a "buy music" link or something. Oops.HeuristicsInc wrote:what? is this referring to me? it's directly in the middle of my front page.fluffy wrote:Yeah, I was going to say, I can't even find your stuff on there, and you don't link to it from your own site anywhere. You can say that something is "name your own price, even free" and still benefit from their really really nice metadata tagging.Generic wrote:Maybe that's my problem. Re: Bandcamp releases "albums I like" feature
I still have to get some things in balance before diving into that, though I have lined up the track list and written some new songs for the album. I'm hoping that this July, when the kids are in camp, I'll be able to produce at least one.fluffy wrote: Man, Roymond, when are you going to put out an album?
