10/22/11

Ya ever feel like things are spinning out of control? That's the QOTD.

Aside from the personal shit (dead parent, coming back to work from that to get fired, bankruptcy proceedings, getting on food stamps to eat, and huzzah, first unemployment check came through finally [after a month of fighting for it]), the band thing (Jacktown Road) is picking up like crazy.

Yes, that's two links there. And the formal Jacktown site isn't quite up to speed yet.

Yesterday's practice we got two gigs offered, for example. Friday night gigs. Well, three, but one was untenable. One in Manhattan, for our East Coast minitour next month (on the same day as another gig in New Brunswick, NJ--we're opening in NY, and headlining the show in NJ... go figure, here's hoping the turnpikes are kind, heh), and another here in town, which'd hook us up with a promoter who books the larger venues here in PDX. If we pull it off, heh.

The tour... DIY fun, I'd say. Our instruments as carry-on luggage, and the backlines provided by whomever we can wheedle it out of. NYC's sketchy, but at least we've got NJ squared away.

West Coast touring next year, starting in f-ing January down in San Diego. The f-ing is for trying to maneuver the snowed-in passes in a band van. Good thing I've still got the Iron Butt McGraw thing going. Taking the coast down past the mountains is gonna be a serious haul. There was a band discussion in favor of letting the snowmelt happen first, but when you're offered a gig, well... let's play!

So that's where I'm at. Hello, y'all. It's been (yet again) a while.

New Brunswick, NJ. My former hometown?!

What venues are you playing in NY and NJ? I'll see if I can make it to one of your shows.

@Niv: 11/17 The Court Tavern, NJ; 11/18 early show at The National Underground, NY, then late show at The Old Bay Restaurant, NJ.

Oh... wait, we're headlining on the 17th, so it ain't too stressy after all

See you on the 18th. Don't make it too early, though.

Ah, the good ol' Court Tavern. Have you ever seen the Tavern and its surrounding area. Court Tavern is probably the most easily missable venue around. Google Map it and you've find it nestled in what basically is an alley behind a parking garage. BUT New Brunswick is a college town (Go Scarlet Knights!) so you still get a good amount of showgoers (just not as much random foot traffic).

@Roymond: The slot's 7-7:45pm, 11/18, but what that translates into in NYC rock & roll time, I have no idea, heh.

@Niv: Yah, our homebase is the floor of a warehouse 1.5 blocks away from the Court Tavern (and Old Bay Restaurant too [supposedly], which is our second gig on the 18th @10ish).

So, if you're the first act, then that's prolly 8:30. If not, 11. But I may be amazed...
