So during the title gap I got inspiration for a song that I've written and haven't gotten around to recording yet, but it needed a title, and well, this title totally fits it.

That is so un-kosher though. So I will probably not enter it. But still.

So now you have to write a song called "Even Better".

I know, but I prefer honesty.

If I do manage to get it recorded I'll just enter it as a non-voting late entry since essentially I'll have had more time to work on it than everyone else anyway.

If you would have already recorded it, I'd agree with you. But seriously, how often has a song ended up being the exact way you wrote it by the time it's finished? Once the song fairies (as DJ calls them. I call them music gods) kick in their 2 cents and insist on directing, a song can be quite different in the end.

Besides, you'll only get your usual 2 votes anyway. Yours and your mom's. Image

I actually don't think it's a cheat, because of the song faeries / music gods... Maybe they went into the Title making brain so that your song could Be. Perhaps it is meant to happen in this fashion. Who knows..?

Let's all listen to Puce's "I want to get better" winning entry from 7 years ago. http://www.songfight.org/music/i_want_t ... better.mp3
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Okay I guess I'm going to enter, and have people complain about how the lyrics don't fit the title, never mind that my lyrics NEVER fit the title even when they are written directly for it because I usually do something that's two connections removed from the actual title.

Oh and the arrangement did change a lot between the prototypal song and the Song Fight version, so there's that.

Well, the lyrics and the basic chord progression/structure are still the same (although the verses now progress twice as fast, so).

Song & lyrics submitted. For what it's worth, I was intentionally aiming for an "early Beatles" (pre-Sgt. Pepper's) song and style on this one, so any comments on how I could have come closer will be be useful. I realize that some of the language would be considered politically incorrect these days ("you belong to me"), but back then that was how song lyrics went...

The thing is that it's the title which really made this song gel, and I'm very very happy with how this song came out and I want to get reviews and listens and so on. So when I do submit it (which should be soon) I will include a note explaining that I would like the song to be entered, reviewed, and voted on, but in the unlikely event that it happens to get the most votes I do not want it to count as a win, as that follows the spirit of the contest as well as the specific wording in the FAQ (since it is no longer in the competition, per se).
