For what it's worth. The day after Etta's death, DJ and I had a moment of non silence by listening to some of her music and having a nice discussion about her work and our connections to it as we grew up. Turns out she was in our lives more than "I" realized. We all know "At Last". What are yours?
I thought Foghat wrote this one, lol. Silly naive kid I was. Really old. Like Willie Dixon old. But Etta made it big.

That is one fine singin' woman with a Well Clad Vibrato and a Sudden Sweetness out of a Controlled Growl that FOR SURE sounded like a sophisticated-yet-sexy Woman. I've been listening to the 'Tell Mama' album for a long time and learned a LOT off it although I shall never sound as Grown Up as that! a Legend...

Re: Etta James
I'm going to be honest and say I never really listened to Etta James' music. I recognized the name, but before now couldn't have named a song.
This is obviously a serious hole in my musical education. Damn that's a fine voice! To YouTube!
Also, if I get serious about actually *gasp* purchasing something, what do y'all recommend?

But for fun, look up old songs by your fav old British bands. Chances are Etta sang them first, lol. Zep has like a half dozen of them. I didn't know until the day after she died.
Re: Etta James
She did some really good stuff with Albert King
