I am only voting for songs that remind me of the Monkees. I don't care if your song is good or not, I only care if it sounds remotely like Davy, Micky, Mike, Peter, and all those studio musicians. My rule this round: if I don't hear enough Monkees, I ain't voting for it. Furthermore, my feedback is based strictly on how Monkee your song was. Now then, let's get to work.

Berkeley Social Scene If the Monkees were created today as an indie band, this would be on their debut album. However, they would not be created today as an indie band because there isn't an indie band as big as the Beatles to parody. If they were created today, they'd probably parody someone like Beyonce. So, I guess what I'm saying is: not enough Monkees.


Caravan Ray This sounds like the southwest. If Mike Nesmith was into cowboy hats instead of ski caps, I might have tossed you a vote.


The Chocolate Chips I was on the fence until you lost my Monkee vote on the slow, downer chorus.


Dejected Motives If there was an opposite of the Monkees, this song would be it.


The Kenzie Chickens If Rod Stewart could cover Tom Waits' "Downtown Train," I could hear the Monkees doing justice to this. Vote for you!

1) I am honored that Roymond took up my free lyrics and very, very pleased with the results. What a great bluesy tone.

2) Late Billy & the Psychotics and sonofsupercar is better than none at all.

This is pretty awesome. Great opening riff - and like many great opening riffs - I thought that might be all you had (yeah - I'm lookin' at YOU Jimi Hendrix). But there turned out to be a pretty cool song attached to it. Good lyrics. And I liked the break-downy thing with horns or something towards the end. Well done. A new favourite of yours for me.

(oh - and when the results come out - and give yourself an extra vote - I voted before properly listening to your song and I forgot you. Sorry. Hope you don't lose by 1)

Nice use of the title to make a catchy lyric.
Was this a rushed job? You do sparse production so well - this sounded a little rough. Your vox especially not quite on. Minor quibble really, but I have heard you do flawless early Dylan-type production - so now I always expect it.

Good song. A good song that sounds like it has had electrodes attached to it testicles while being waterboarded. Man your recording is rough! I can tell you girl(s) can sing - but this recording is harsh. Good song though.

Well done old fella! Good to see you out of retirement. Disclaimer - I don't like West Coast/Claptony/Bluesy stuff. But I was entertained by this to the end. And that is all that counts. Nice lyrics Noah - and well done Roy on the interpretation. Good fit.

You scrape into credit only on the basis of your guitaring. I wish I could play like that. Your singing is acceptable - and together, your sparse production works well. The song is a bit dull though. If you want to tell us about some one-eyed midgets or a sad-eyed lady of the lowlands - the the sparse arrangement will work.

I am not a big guitar wank fan. But I hope your guitar wank here had a happy ending. It gave me one. It was wonderful. Besides that - this was a well executed song that didn't otherwise excite me much.

Good vox. Shame you all weren't singing the same song. This reminded me of The Velvet Underground's "Murder Mystery". Messy. But maybe not intentionally like VU were. A lot of promise, but poorly executed. Please post more songs. I want to hear you get better

This is pretty horrible. Cliched structure and appalling rhymes in the lyrics. You seem to be telling a story - then tell it. Don't ruin it with stupid rhyming. Rhyme is good - but get the story out first - that is the important bit.
