This time, I'm voting for songs that remind me of Batman. I don't care if your song is good or not, it will only get my vote if there's some Bruce Wayne, his furry tendencies, and his dead parents inside.

add .... holy Adam West, Batman!!! It's as if you wrote this song just for my vote! If I could give you a thousand votes, I would.

G.U.N.S. - This is more Spider-Man than Batman. Eh. Close enough.

Everyone else - Commissioner Gordon is on the phone. He says you're fired.

Well it's clear I missed the point. And I thought fat was a good thing. Thanks Tuners Union; we should hook up.
But, hey, after a quick listen, there's clearly some good stuff this week.

W.A.I.L. I.A.A.C. (actually more so than usual as I managed to blow up my recording laptop last night and it may force me into musical retirement. A nation of music lovers cheers.)

AD - gorgeous tune and performance, lazy lyrics drag it down just below voting range for me. I know that's a little harsh but the lack of anything but seering disdain seems wasted on an easy target. It's not like the words are funny, really - there's some clever rhymes and journeys between them, but without any warmth, I just find myself thinking "*christ* what's HIS problem with fat men"? All that said you have a lovely voice and the piano sounds wonderful and I look forward to hearing other stuff by you. Just not this. Ever again. Sorry. (ps i am neither thin or fat but I do have body dysmorphia issues so maybe mine is an overreaction. Hey it's a subjective world. Still not voting for it though :) )

AAD - cute, a bit over-reliant on the batman riff, doesn't outstay its welcome. Great keyboard tone / riff (when it's not "batman"). OK, second listen convinced me there's much more to this than the batman riff, so have a *vote* if you promise to revisit the song at some point only to replace that riff with something similar but not so similar.

BSS - the vocal is a bit choked this time out, especially in the choruses where it starts to distract. Your sound, your sound ... it's too "west coast" for me to relate to, but I can hear this is a good song. I almost didn't hear the cool keyboards as well. Not sure if *that's* good or not.

CWjr - Nice pickin'. I appreciate the sentiment but I think you missed (or I did in the listening) a "just like everybody else" - cos nothing you list isn't applicable across pretty much everyone in the world. I really don't like "Fat man I still love you" like he needs your approval and the last "he's a fat man" did make me go "No shit, Sherlock!" Sorry to go on about the words but the tune is lovely and well performed and all that but not my preferred style of music so I inevitably focus on the other.

GUNS - Oooh Jazz, and I love* that weird bass and bum-num-bum things going on in one speaker / phone. There's a really nice progression going on in the chorus, although the arrangement sounds a little thin there, compared to the synth bass. Also the harmonies in the chorus are great, but seperating them so far apart from the main vocal exenuates unfairly where they're not spot-on. This is really interesting, I can't tell whether I actually like it yet. Spanish guitar is just showin' off :) I'd love to see the words to this. Did I miss 'em in the correct thread? You know what, have a *vote* for doing it differently.

Johnny Cashpoint - that'll be me. FBOFW. I think I've warped another guitar neck, sadly. People should not allow me near instrumentation. Nyom nyom nyom.

Not Tagged - (turns out to be the Kenzie Chickens) - Heh, cute. Great sound all round. Lyric is throwaway but fun. I hear your voice and the swamp rock and it makes me want this to be a little less trad a bit more beefheart, if no what I mean, but that's a personal taste. It gets more interesting when it starts speeding up toweards the end. A little long for what it is, maybe.

Naked Philosophy - That riff is great at the start, i am not sure that I like the acoustic (in terms of combined tone) - Oh stop / starts are cool! Those BVs are so quiet to be almost pointless, which is a shame as they sound as good (if not better) than the mainly good but wavery main vocal. Interesting if earnest take on the title. Maybe 30 seconds too long but despite the things that I don't like, this is a good song and is veering towards a *VOTE* for me.

Nobody et al - I guess if I had a lovely voice like yours I wouldn't worrry too much about puttting on top of folk with prog chord leanings. Do you mean the fat man is bouncing out of control in the box car (which is a ridiculous image) or the box car is spinning out of control? Oh these "poetic" words leave me cold, I'm afraid. You'll be singing about Wizards' sleeves next. Things I like here - your voice, the BVs, the production, the sweet, melodious feel all the way through. What I don't like - hippies, lyrics that think they're poetry. You deserve lots and lots of votes, just not from me.

Paco - great fat man bass line. Love those verses. I think the organ should be much louder in the choruses and slightly distorted for true ? & the Mysterons garage rock feel. Great bridge too. The chorus seems strangely underwritten in comparison - it's catchy it needs more instrumentation, a big wall of BVs behind it would work wonders. Still interesting twist on the title and a good song, so *vote*

Pigfarmer Jr - Hmmm, i like this - though it's samey and a bit repetitive, and I hear a weird hot buzzy artifact (?) on the lead guitar part, or maybe I 'm just imagining things. But I like it.

Radio Show - Impressive vocalising - i am not a fan of "Belters" probably because there's no way I could ever dream of trying it myself - but it's undeniably impressive. Problem is I really don't like the blues - and the arrangement is thin - so there's not a huge amount of extra stuff going on that I can get into - but not so much that you couldn't play it live for many people to enjoy. That's not very helpful, i appreciate, but I got nothin' else.

Sausage - Vocals are mixed high! "Fat Man's" is a bit of a cheat isn't it? This is a good song, mind. I really like the harmonies in the chorus (although the more I listen the more I think that they're actually a synth setting. It doesn't matter but whatever they are they're a bit curious. maybe I was just expecting chorus BVs. I digress. A little long for what is, but I can't think where to cut out stuff. Yeah, I am starting to get it.

SunofSuperCar - Fucking stoners :) Glad you got yourself a bass player. This is pretty great. *VOTE* as long as you trim off that unneccassary recording room audio at the very end.

Tuner's Union - Cute. Oh I was just going to say I've heard it all before, and then those lovely triple-part harmonies kick in, and the nice sunny lead guitar arrives, and it makes me wish I could listen to this section forever. In retrosepct, the cutesy "casio" moment becomes really really f*cking annoying because it stops me hearing that lovely indie Bee Gees bit in the middle. I'm in a quandry do I vote for the most wonderful minute of the fight, or do I not for the two perfectly fine but mundane parts that surround it. Hmmmm. *oh the tension* *VOTE* cos everyone loves a happy ending.

I'm dim, and don't understand tagging. But would be happy to do it. I use a mac with itunes. Googled it last week without good results. I'd be obliged for an assist.

Well, I use Goldwave or Winamp (which was free last time I used it but I guess wouldn't work on a Mac);

a quick search seems to suggest Garageband doesn't do it, but uploading into any Mac utility that does (like itunes apparently) it's as simple as re-naming all the relative sections and it will automatically do the tagging for you.

http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_ ... GarageBand suggests using GB preferences to make the basic tags (which i assume are the standard outputs like band name) - any Mac users confirm or deny this? I know Caravan Ray uses Garageband - but I am sure there are a plethora of others

Thats the point of the song man, He's fat and he gets judged but deep inside he's just like everybody else. As my song inplies "You shouldnt hate him because he's fat, cause deep inside he's more than that

Yeah, I kind of was getting there as I was listening, it just seemed, without spelling it out (which I would agree in advance would be stupid) the lyric seemed a little aimless ... hey, what do I know? It was certainly a pleasant listen.

No Harm done, Just 2 different ears. I did improv the verses, which explains the aimlessness. I was digging the cheezy words so much i just ran with it. Thanks for your review,

The Kenzie Chickens: I love the ZZ Top groove instantly…La Grange?? Make way for the fat man!! LOL! Yeah…I love this song. The lyrics are fun and this is definitely a get up and dance song. The Harmonica and the cow bell is great and the double time at the end is a perfect end. Although I would have liked to have heard another verse because they were that fun. Other than that I have nothing bad to say about this song. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Johnny Cashpoint: I like the idea of writing about the struggles of a diet. The instrumentals and the style of vocals make the song a little eerie which I believe is the point…It definitely makes me not want to go on a diet.

Sonofsupercar: I love the drum intro… has a cool rock punk sound but I can’t understand the lyrics.

Adam Dachis: Nice piano intro. I can definitely picture this man’s life because the lyrics are really descriptive but I am not able to understand everything so I miss some things. Your voice is nice! VOTE

G.U.N.S. : Really cool instrumentals! But again…I can’t understand the lyrics…I’m just a vocalist so lyrics are really important for me to be able to hear and understand. But as far as the song itself I really like the arrangement, the breaks and the changes in the song. Even though I couldn’t understand the lyrics I liked the layering you did to the vocals. VOTE

Paco Del Stinko: Paco you always crack me up with your songs! I like these lyrics!! This is hilarious! I like the spin you took on this story and the two different perspectives you took with two different voices...one being the fat man and the other in the back being the guy judging the fat man. It’s a little evil but hilarious!!! I feel like I am watching a cartoon! Of course the instrumentals worked perfectly with what you were doing in creating the moods of the two different people and their characters. Great song…VOTE

Berkely Social Scene: I like the background vocals in this song and the melody is fun. Another day, another chin! Hilarious! Isn’t that how we all feel when we are trying to start over again and we keep messing up so we wait for the new day to try again and again and again? VOTE

Nobody, et al: OOOHHH…I like this from the start with the melodic guitar and the story telling…you had me totally interested as to what was going to happen next. I liked how you used the fat man in a box car as an analogy to the state that your character is in rather than using the title of FAT MAN as a physical being with a weight problem. Very creative. The harmonies and the guitar are just so beautiful! Beautiful voice! VOTE VOTE VOTE

Radio Show: I wrote this song about my dad…it’s just a simple song…not much about the instrumentals...my intentions was for it to be just a simple groove going down memory lane as if I was sitting at a gig getting intimate with the audience and telling them a story...just a little interlude between the full band stuff…anyway...when my parents got divorced my dad was interested in only three things…going out to eat, taking his dates out to eat and taking his kids out to eat. So needless to say all that dining out and lack of my mother’s home cooking caused my father to gain weight. Now usually in Radio Show my partner composes and plays all the music and I go and write the lyrics and sing. So this is the first time I told him what to do as far as the music goes. As I am not an instrumentalist it’s very simple and I am still learning and developing my own style in regards to structure and arrangements and even lyrics…it’s hard to do that when you haven’t mastered an instrument... I do appreciate that my partner was able to be so patient and follow my lead. And most importantly my Dad loved the song and it made him happy.

Sausage: My favorite part of this song was the lead into the solo and the solo itself…I wish it were a little longer. I like the melody. I can hear this in an IFC film. I just wish it were a little cleaner.

Cody Walker Jr.: I love this CWJ voice. I don’t like his country voice. CWJ from Seven Days and this song is his best voice!! I love this story line. I wish I could hear the harmonies a little more. The music is awesome…like Adam Dachis you could totally take this instrumental and write a whole different song to these beautiful instrumentals! I like the harmonica hiding in the back ground. The song is almost sentimentally funny…makes me love the fat man…makes me happy. VOTE VOTE VOTE

Tuners Union: I like this arrangement a lot...how it starts off quirky and then the full band comes in. It’s very interesting. Lots of cool changes in this song which keeps me interested. Vote

Naked Philosophy: Again…good use of the fat man as a symbol of something other than a weight problem.

ADD: Interesting…I felt like I was in a video game…not a bad thing. It was catchy.

Pigfarmer Jr.: Wow…this was a good song…definitely makes you regret if you ever picked on anyone in the past…pretty emotional song. Surprising ending which of course equals great story telling! Vote Vote Vote

Adam Dachis Wow, really great song. Vocals sound excellent. Melody flows with the music nicely. Big sound with little instrumentation.

add I feel like i'm surfing with Beavis and Butthead! getting a good vibe from this song.

Berkeley Social Scene Intro riff is great, Like an anthem song. I'm not crazy about the background vocals. Sounds like a 'Real Song' to me, Like something that took much longer than 7 days to write. I really like this tune.

Cody Walker Jr.I had fun doing this song. I got really into the vocal parts. Recorded with my new preamp and I also was fortunate enough to buy some real studio monitors last week.

G.U.N.S.Interesting tune. Kind of like last week it gets too busy for a bit. But then seems to clear up. I can not really understand the lyrics but the melody is 'Jingly"in some spots. Could be featured on a Vodka commercial maybe? Would go well in a Gentlemans Club. Sounds like lasers are firing at me in other spots.. Cool song .

Johnny CashpointIntro Voice and Lo-Fi piano are as haunting. I didnt grasp the lyrics. I had to listen a few times, and still never really caught on, I do have an extrememly short attention span though. The music is great. You have captured a very unique sound here. Well done.

The Kenzie Chickens Man, Awesome. The arrangement takes a simple concept and makes it great. I really love your voice. It makes what could be a typical song, exciting. At first listen I thought there was a bit too much verb, But it seems to work with the song as it goes on. Gives an almost 'Live' feel. Great cowbell . at 2:53 the (Organ, i think) really shines. Great placement of instruments. Cool time change. from ZZ top to Van Halen LOL. Great Submission.

Naked Philosophy At first I rerally hated all of the pauses. I thought the 'groovin' part was the best part. But everything seems to flow together nicely. The whole tune is a great crescendo that resolves to the melodic guitar line and simple rhythm, It seems to wrap the song up nicely. Awesome tune

Nobody, et al.
The quality of the recording is one of the first things that pops out at me. Excellent songwriting, Picking, Lyrics, Melody and Timbre of the Guitar and Vocals. I just returned from an open mic tonight that featured a group doing a poor version of a CSNY song. This was a nice refresher. I have no complaints here. Really enjoyed listening to this song (several times)

Paco del Stinko
Bown Bown Chicka Bown bass line is catchy, and interesting. Lyrics make you smile. I like what you did with the surf guitar thing in the R speaker. Coolkeyboard in the left as the song goes on.

Pigfarmer JrMan, I feel like the quality of the guitar sound couldhave made this sound so much better. Sounds like an acoustic electric plugged in. Not like Im actually listening to you play guitar. Good melody and harmonies. The arrangement and playing is really good. The story is very well thought out. Great song. Great ending line.

RadioShowLast minute ubmission. Kim had an idea and I was excited to use some new eguipment. Quick arrangement and minimal instrumentation, but i was happy with the clarity. Vox are well done, Lacking some thought in the phrasing. Nothing that singing it 30 more times wouldnt fix. Lyrics have sedimental value, making it a fun song . Wish there was more guitar solo!

Sausage Really doing great with the vocal delivery here. Your song sounds true and genuine. pairing that with the interesting percussion and solid guitar riffing . this all blends well. Your choice of chords is nice. Really brings the emotion of the song out. I'm paddling out to Fatman' at the edge of the sea.

sonofsupercar some really heavy garage rockin'. Remings me of some of those heavy Indie bands from Gainesville. Cool riffing. The recording sounds great. What sets this aside from a lot of the other submissions this week, is that this sounds like an actual band. I can picture myself in a small pub full of people, watching this band play this song. Rockin Tune!

Tuners Union Cool story. Great Harmonies. this intro feels like a great buildup to this simple yet excellent chorus. Ireally enjoyed that . Kinda reminging me of Steely Dan in some places. Well done song. Good job on production.
