Well. I was thinking about a sexed up funk fest for this week. With this title, that's gonna be either very difficult or fairly demented. But then it was suggested that my song last week was too tasteful. I could make up for that. More likely, it's time for plan B.

Oh, I totally have a subject right at my finger-tips for this one. We'll see if I get the time to write and record.

I did some initial planning. I have a tune and lyrics.

I hope to have some time to actually invest in making music... we'll see how that goes.

It's decidedly not a nursery rhyme, though.

It's actually sort of depressing.

If someone is lacking inspiration for a techno tune, I posted lyrics to one. It's even based on true events.

I'm still planning to try a chiptune waltz-time thingy if I can get everything worked out. We'll see how it goes.

It would probably be easier for me to do a techno tune but... I do like to keep things interesting.

its not that i'm not interested in songfight (just did my first entry this last week)... but the title ain't doing it for me, for various personal reasons.. i'm not ruling it out, but .. may pass this time around, we'll see..

so is it normally every two weeks, or every week?

Barring some unfortunate disaster that would prevent me from recording the rest of this tune between now and next Friday, I ought to have something for this. And it's gonna be folk-alicious (sorry j$). :D

I very much look forward to hating it with a passion, then :) I just wrote some words for an Arab Strap-style ditty, so it's likely I'll be in as well.

I am guaranteed to be in.

I'm still trying to work all the details out with a chiptune. If I get this worked out, I'll be submitting as "Mr. Beany Bashes Buttons."

Worst case, I'll be submitting as "Mr. Beany Bellows Balefully" again. I have that MP3 ready -- just incase.

I think we're finally gettin' into the swing of things. This weeks entry is pretty silly.

I am unhappy.

I've been working long and hard trying to get a chiptune backing track for this week's fight. (I think I actually started the process before the title was named.)

Earlier in the week, I recorded an "in case I don't get it done on time" a capella version.

I decided, "if I'm going to make a chiptune, I should do it right."

I downloaded an old-school tracker program (Milky Tracker -- a Fasttracker II clone). I fumbled around with it enough to know something about how to use it to a degree.

I used it to successfully create my own 8-bit 64-sample chip instruments -- including one hand-drawn.

I used a tuner program to convert the song that had just been in my head in to music.

I researched music and chord theory enough that I could then take what I had written and change it so it would actually be in a key. (You know, maybe I can sing in key and my past songs were simply written without one.)

I had the corrected and updated tune in MilkyTracker, exported to WAV, imported in to Audacity (because I'm still using the free and open-source tools) and went to plug in my USB microphone to record a track both in time and in tune with the MilkyTracker version...

... and it looks like the USB ports on this thing are toast.

It isn't one of those, "the app needs restarted" things. The OS just doesn't see it. Grrr...

I'm not saying I was done with it in any sense, but if I had a confirmed good voice track that would work with my MilkyTracker instruments I could then focus on making an interesting backing score. Not being able to record a new voice track leaves me stuck.

This could be my last fight for some time.

I do hope I can beat someone.

I will mail a prize to whoever figures out where the inspiration for my entry this week came from. The WreckdoM crew might get it right off the bat.

The Mickey Skylark production team has swung into action, and there is an entry that was , I believe, e mailed at exactly the deadline, with about 10 seconds to spare, perhaps :)

Any chance these songs will get posted today?
There's a couple of people I'd like to tag on Facebook for Father's Day with my submission...

Pretty please?
