Well, I am a slacker. I have reasonable excuses, but I will not bore you with them at this time. I am planning on being done by this weekend. Sorry, folks.

Hello.
Yes. I'm sorry I was late. I have not been well as of, uh, late.
I did want to pop on and say a small bit for now:
1. I was touched and amazed by that BSS cover of Occupy My Heart. I never would have expected that, it's a very squishy song and you propped it up strongly and it was so nice. What a great harmony line!
2. Albatross. I think that vocal was epic and the whole drive of the arrangement was just very Hot and Sultry. It was a nifty juxtaposition of ingredients and what you spoke of about your vocal on the board I found rather to be ... effective and it fit to character which works with the lyrics. And you really did sing the hell out of it. Oh, YAY on the bridge

I don't do hot and sultry. That's YOUR job!RangerDenni wrote:2. Albatross. I think that vocal was epic and the whole drive of the arrangement was just very Hot and Sultry.
BTW, I played both versions for my brother-in-law (with whom I am now living) and he went on about how much he'd like to hear YOU sing MY version. Take that for what it's worth.
Anyhooz, here is a reworked version. I tried some pitch correction on certain spots and I think all it really did was turn my flat notes into sharp notes. Production is hard.
Albatross covers BatP's "I Blame You Entirely" (version 2.0)

Paco - this is totally awesome. I'm so glad you picked an older song. Absolutely love the vocals and the panning guitar and the slide guitar, among everything else. Seriously man... I loved your take on it, it even made me giddy. Many, many thanks for the excellent work.
inevitableguy - Glad to hear it! I had an absolute blast with this. I found your lyrics here to be just perfect... somewhat goofy, but profound at the same time, which I suspect was the point. And the music had such a fun feel, I caught myself on a few occasions wasting time just jamming with myself. 'Twas a privilege!

Re: Original Flava Coverfight 2013
Awesome work Glennny!! If not slightly bizarre.
It is nice to hear 3 versions of ones name chanted concurrently.
Must admit - I had almost completely forgotten this song. Even when the bits I wrote came in - it took a while for me to recognise it. But I like how you seem to have done it in an style which is like an exaggerated version of me - with the bongos and overlapping vocals - sort of making it sound like what I might sound like if I could sing properly and play instruments and stuff (one thing I do remember about my version of that song is the rhythm guitar bit on it. It was recorded as one single strum - and then looped and pitch shifted to fill out the whole song. I am a cheat).
I like this song a lot more now after hearing your version of it. Maybe I will re-record it one day.

Re: Original Flava Coverfight 2013
You are too kind, but thank you. I listened to your entire SF! catalog many times and whittled it down to Frostbite. Tough decision, all of your songs are quite excellent and I was especially intimidated by the vocal work you do on them. It would have been a horror show if I tried to figure out and properly sing your harmonies so for this, so I left them out. I also noticed your apparent like of auto-wah, so I had to do that. The slide is fretless bass. The original song sounded like something I might have tried to do at one time, only better. Great fun and cool (har-har) tune. Please continue to submit your work, it is most excellent.Kaz wrote:Paco - this is totally awesome. I'm so glad you picked an older song. Kaz brings up an interesting point when he says he was giddy hearing my version of his song. I was fortunate to have been the recipient of a HXARO a few years back, and was indeed giddy. Everybody took my songs and made them into something so much more. There were several instances where I thought "man, that's a good song. I wrote that!" but it took someone else doing it for me to realize it. Like instruction on how to do it properly. Caravan Ray says something similar in the post above me regarding Glennny's cover of his tune. Anyway, great work by all, let's hope we do this again next year.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Re: Original Flava Coverfight 2013
you're welcome. I've become a fan of your lyrics. I've listened to heaps of you for this project. I almost did the song which is the one where the puppets dream because I love the lyrics. I made Mr.DJRD listen to it in the darkness but then I thought it would be way too predictable and me-styled and not a great stretch out so much from the sort of thing I usually do when I am emulating 'Creepy' (i.e. gratuitous gongs and Harpsichords)j$ wrote:DJRD, I love it! I'm with my mom this weekend. She doesn't remember who I am, and when she does she thinks I am still a little boy so why hasn't she seen me since then? It's a curious dilemma, but not one that inspires the waltz I owe someone here. It will come. Mom loved to waltz.

I'm already almost 2 weeks late, and Niv may still be on his honeymoon, so it may not be posted quickly. I didn't want Glennny to have to wait any longer, so I dropped a copy into my dropbox account:

Good news! Al has a new computer to replace the old one that died a painful and horrible death, so it shouldn't be long before the cover is finished.
Apologies for the delay.

You're welcome. I was originally thinking of covering "Less of You" (the one where I did the lyric-mart and you did the song) but when I was looking at your lyric sheets, I was inspired by your words: "I think these may be some of the best lyrics I've written so far" and figured you'd appreciate a cover of that more.Lunkhead wrote:Just realized I forgot to say "Thanks!" to Bill for the cover.
