Tom Petty Coverfight
I'm pretty shaken up by the news. Tom Petty's been one of my favorite artists ever since middle school. I've been listening to a lot of his music recently as I just bought Rickenbacker 330 and have been chasing that jangle sound. Now I've got a solid reason to put it to use. Anyone else up for a Tom Petty coverfight?

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight
Aack, I only just found out about it from this thread. Such sad news.
I guess him dying of cardiac arrest is at least fitting.

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight
I came here to start a Tom Petty coverfight thread.
So, I'm in. I suggest just having it be a rolling coverfight with the covers posted as they're done, rather than a deadline thing.

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight
How do you want them submitted (i.e., who do we mail them to, naming convention)?

If you like, you can email them to me at chumpy.wumpikins@gmail.com, and I'll host them and post them here. Use the same naming convention as you would for SF title. You can also use a service like Soundcloud, Bandcamp, or host them yourself and post a link here.king_arthur wrote:How do you want them submitted (i.e., who do we mail them to, naming convention)?
I'll be hosting them on muppetlabs.com which has been in steady Internet operation since 1996, so there is a good chance if I host your songs the links here on the boards will continue to work well after Soundcloud and/or Bandcamp eventually shutter.

Hey, Soundcloud might be a fiscal garbage fire, but Bandcamp has been wildly profitable for years now.Chumpy wrote:well after Soundcloud and/or Bandcamp eventually shutter.

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight
Man.
Always sad to hear about a music icon passing, but this one hit me harder than most. I'm going through a really tough time right now personally and Mr. Petty's music really resonates right now.
Rest in peace, Tom.
A friend and I did a cover of "Stop Draggin My Heard Around" just after college as recording practice when I got my first Real Job making Real Money and bought an ADAT and needed to learn to use it.
I'm in. Need some time to think about what to do.

I'm going to try to do this too... might just be bass/vocals unless I get some help, but we'll see. I've been pretty bummed about this myself.

Re: Tom Petty Coverfight
I sent mine in. This exercise gave me even more respect for the genius of Tom Petty. It would never in my life occur to me to use this chord:
But it just sounds perfect where he's written it.
