Most anticipated albums of 2018?

Post by Lunkhead »

Does anybody still listen to albums anymore? Anyway, maybe some of you know of some artists who've got new albums set for release this year. I know Jenny Lewis has been recording for a while now, I'm hoping her new album comes out this year.

I was checking on Jenny Lewis this morning as well. It's been too long.

I should add that I listened to the new Typhoon record Offerings on headphones the other night when I couldn't fall asleep after the earthquake and it was really interesting. It will be released soon.

My most anticipated album of 2017 was 'Matchy Matchy' by The Ballet, which didn't end up coming out in 2017, so I guess I'll roll that one over to this year! Hopefully it's just delayed rather than cancelled, they don't have much of a social media presence so it's hard to know...

Their last album, 'I Blame Society' was one of my favourite of the last few years. Kinda Magnetic Fields-esque, but a bit more minimal and atmospheric.

Neko Case and Laura Veirs have new albums coming out too, which I'm excited about. Also there was a new MGMT album last month apparently so that's cool.

And there was already a new Calexico album, also Belle & Sebastian, Superchunk, David Byrne, The Breeders. Wow, I should really pay more attention:

whoa, I didn't realize Optiganally Yours was even still doing their thing. They haven't run out of things they can do with those three Optigan discs already?

I'll have to check that one out.

Ha!

Pea Hix was able to get the master tapes that were used to make the disks and sample all of them. Some stuff he got didn't make it to production. (Also, my understanding is that this record has been done for years waiting for a label to release it.)

I was really looking forward to the new Brandi Carlile album.... I ended up being very disappointed. I'll give it another listen or two and see if it grows on me.

I never posted about it, but I was looking forward to the new Halestorm disc "Vicious" and it's pretty decent. Sounds just a bit heavier than previous albums. I like it well enough.

Robyn has just announced that she has a new album out next month, and it has instantly become my most anticipated album of (the rest of) this year! Body Talk is possibly my favourite pop album ever.

My best-so-far of this year:
1. The Beths - Future Me Hates Me (super-catchy New Zealand power-pop)
2. Trust Fund - Bringing the Backline (self-deprecating British guitar-pop)
3. Gruff Rhys - Babelsberg (more gorgeous melancholy songwriting from ex-Super Furry Animals frontman)

Love the Janelle Monae album too.
