Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
As mentioned elsewhere, "classic" fighter Brother Machine (real name Seth Gibbs) recently passed away from cancer:
https://www.austinchronicle.com/music/2 ... -to-fight/
I haven't seen an "official" notice about his passing but MC Frontalot tweeted about it.
I think we should have a Hxaro for Seth which means folks covering his songs.
http://sfjukebox.org/artists/Brother%20Machine
Feel free to pick one of those, or a non Song Fight Brother Machine song, or go out and find out about the many many other great music projects he helmed and was involved in and cover one of their songs.
I'm going to set an arbitrary deadline of Sunday, the 18th of November, by 11:59:59pm Pacific time.
Send the songs to fightmaster@songfight.org and please post here to let me know you've sent the song in case the email gods interfered and I didn't get the message.

Oh dang, this is really sad news. :( He was one of the greats and I loved his charisma and friendliness. His performance at SF Live 2004 was a huge highlight of the event.

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
I'm trying to record a cover of Space Cadet and I am having two problems:
1) I can't figure out one of the lyrics
2) I keep fucking crying
For number one, does anyone know how the bridge goes? What I've figured out is:
You watch the universe go
You wish the only ??? ???
What you think of us now
How can you live with us now

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
The best I can figure - the lyric might be "You wish the all of us love."fluffy wrote: You watch the universe go

Yeah, I am a mess about this. I wrote a song called "Rare" about Seth that I'll be releasing on Thursday.
Additionally, at the very least I would like to claim "All The Time".
Probably going to cover a few others too, regardless. I didn't interact with Seth all that often, but the man was a force. His energy and magnetism was unreal.
For those who want to expand it past Brother Machine songs - He was also a key member of the bands The Archibalds, and Bobby Jealousy.

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
also don't let my posting about Space Cadet discourage anyone else from covering that one too. It's such a great song (definitely my favorite of his) and I'd be happy with a hxaro of like 50 different versions of it.

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
I concur with Glenn and I think the third line maybe also has a "do" in it, "What do you think of us now?"fluffy wrote: You watch the universe go

Maybe we need a choir of Song Fight! voices all singing together in the outro for that one? I could send tracks from at least me, possibly also Erin, but I can't really sign her up without checking with her first.

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
On a relisten, yeah, there's definitely a "do" there. Or it's a "Whaddya think of us now." Or whatever.Lunkhead wrote:I concur with Glenn and I think the third line maybe also has a "do" in it, "What do you think of us now?"
Glenn's take on the ??? words don't make sense because whatever it is rhymes with "go," both in the song fight and the Austin versions.
That would be awesome. I'm going to record in the original tempo (145) and key (A) so there shouldn't be any problem with that if people want to get started on recording tracks now.Maybe we need a choir of Song Fight! voices all singing together in the outro for that one? Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
Wow, while delving into the dark crevasses of the wayback machine (trying to see if he ever put lyrics on his own site) I found out that he'd submitted two songs for Space Cadet - "Seth" is also him.
https://web.archive.org/web/20040411120 ... music.html
http://www.songfight.org/music/spacecad ... ecadet.mp3
Anyway after a bunch of listening to that one line in a loop I'm just gonna go with "You wish the only love, so" unless someone else can come up with something more plausible.

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
If anyone wants to contribute to the chorus stuff at the end of Space Cadet (I cannot guarantee that I'll actually use it and if I do it'll be very heavily processed) here's a pitch and rhythm reference. If you do this please email it as a wav, flac, or high-bitrate mp3 to fluffy-spacecadet@beesbuzz.biz or DM me an attachment or whatever.
Thanks!
Thanks!

BSS is going to cover "Step Up" but it may take us a bit to get it done due to scheduling and holidays and travel.

I sent in a cover of the non-Songfight Brother Machine song "This Is How You Disappear".Lunkhead wrote:Send the songs to fightmaster@songfight.org and please post here to let me know you've sent the song in case the email gods interfered and I didn't get the message.

Wow that's horrible, he was so talented. He was one of the many highlights of Austin for me.
I might try to send in a version "Driving" or the non-songfight "I Had a Dream".

Re: Brother Machine/Seth Gibbs Hxaro
Did this happen? I always really liked his stuff. I'd cover something when I finish my, uh, most recent cover.
I do remember Seth being the same guy. I kinda wanted to be mad at him for entering twice but his songs we just that fantastic that I left it alone.
Was there one week he did 3?

I got two covers so far. BSS is slowly working one also. I'll post the ones I got when I have a chance.

His lyrics are not so easy to understand though... I understand fluffy's frustration.

I saw his gig on YT and fell in love with his "Bullseye Girl".
But I just can't get the lyrics... Even his recorded version leaves quite me clueless.
Can anyone help me please

So is this ever going to get posted, or should I just post mine to my own SoundCloud?

Oh geez. I'd say go ahead and post yours. Sorry I dropped the ball.
