Re: My Life
My brother has been shopping for a new DJ mixer. He mentioned some models he was looking at. I looked them up, and I asked him, “why do you need so many channels?”
It would seem that the golden ratio of turntables to microphones is no longer 2:1.
For future generations, Beck may seem as anachronistic as “Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares.”
My world is shattered.

I turn 40 in a month and a half. It feels like just yesterday that 30 seemed like the distant future. Where the heck did all the time go?

Yeah I wanna know
Where the hell the days go
I wanna look and feel years younger baby
Oddly enough I listened to that song this morning.

Kit Kat Clock - The Bottle Rockets
Kit Kat clock hanging in the kitchen
Keeps wagging his tail as time goes by
Don't seem to worry about what he's missing
I wonder why do I, I wonder why do I
Kit Kat clock don't seem to mind
That he's getting older every roll of his eyes
Just hangs there and he don't look scared
Wish I could be so wise, wish I could be so wise
Who knows where time goes?
I waste mine thinking 'bout it I suppose
But the Kit Kat clock maybe understands
Ticks and tocks may be out of his hands
He just hangs in and keeps on grinning
Don't know why I can't, I don't know why I can't
But the Kit Kat clock hanging in the kitchen
Keeps wagging his tail like he's feeling fine
Makes me wonder why I've been itching
To get him off of my mind, to get him off of my mind
Kit Kat clock hanging in the kitchen
Keeps wagging his tail as time goes by
Don't seem to worry about what he's missing
I wonder why do I, I wonder why do I

Re: My Life
Hey everybody! It's me, sven. I am having difficulties in life right now. I can't seem to find a job no matter what I do, apparently I'm unemployable? Anyway, I'm on the verge of complete ruin here, in debt with no income, rent/bills coming up, job market is fucking horrible, vehicle is falling apart, along with my sanity, and I don't know what to do other than just roll with it and live in my vehicle when I get evicted for non-payment of rent?
Pre-emptive replies to predicted advice:
* No, I don't have any friends or family I could ask for help.
* I'm applying for literally anything I see available. Not even getting calls back from unskilled labor postings.
* I'm in construction. There are no jobs on offer in my town in this field. Major centers 100 miles to the north and south have dozens of job postings every day, but I'm unable to relocate.
* My employment insurance ran out 3 months ago. Welfare? Haven't applied, but probably will. They give ~$500/month, approximately half my rent.
Any advice? I just want a normal life again

Re: My Life
I came here to snark about https://bumpboxx.com/ ("Zero Down Financing! Get easy, flexible monthly payments.”; Yes, I am dissatisfied having only a mortgage and car payment! Can I please also have a boom box payment as well?) but after reading the last few posts, I cannot. I am really sorry to hear that, dude.
I wish I could offer more support, but I am far away and not in wonderful shape myself.
But seriously, truly, if there is anything I can do, even if it’s just to listen, do not hesitate.
Hang in there, brother.

Re: My Life
Hey guys, thanks for the positive vibes. I found some temp work and could pay my immediate bills, and started a new full-time job yesterday. Things are looking up.

Re: My Life
Thanks! I do hope to have more time for SongFight, although I'll be away from my studio in the summer.
Now that I've spring-cleaned the basement and the retirement party and (most excellent) studio jam is over, maybe I'll start a blog. There is a long-standing problem in philosophy, the relation between mind and body, that IMHO is due to be dissolved by a paradigm shift to "pan-experientialism" or something like it. Yet the shift is about so much more than the mind-body problem. It's also about our relation to nature, and indeed about the very nature of "nature," positing a dimension of motive and care and appreciation -- life itself -- as an inherent property of reality.
There's a richness of material here. One could approach it by talking about philosophy, or ecology, or scientism, or theology, or aesthetics, or so many other things. And it's an important discussion, still inaccessible to the mainstream. The only question is what to say and how to say it...

Re: My Life
I just entered Nur Ein for the first time. I figured I'd be the first person to ever not make it past round zero, but here we are. The last time I recorded anything of note was in 2013 (Kasper's http://www.songfight.org/music/our_plan ... _opaoh.mp3) and not only have my songwriting and recording skills atrophied, (not like they were ever great to begin with,) but everyone around me has taken huge leaps forward, while I have stayed stagnant. Depression sucks, but regardless of how craptastic my performances and songwriting are, I'm still glad to be a part of this community, and I'm looking forwarding to building my skills up again.
