Nur Ein XIV Round Five "Where The Streets Have No Name"
We are getting closer to the finale. Can you handle this challenge (and a half)?
Submit an original song by June 3rd at 12:01 AM (EDT) that fits the following criteria
Title: Where The Streets Have No Name
Challenge: Tell a story from the end to the beginning
Caveat: No U2 references
This time around we have chosen a title you might already be very familiar with. There are no sacred cows when it comes to song titles, so let's see what you can do with this one, but no references to U2 allowed. As for the challenge, we are looking for a story song. Tell us a story from the end to the beginning.
Send your MP3 to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com
Good luck!

Thank you so much for this caveat, judges. U2 are one of my least favourite bands.

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Five "Where The Streets Have No Name"
Do you mean "No other U2 references"? Isn't titling the song "Where the Streets Have No Name" and/or using that in the lyrics a U2 reference...?

Haha that thought crossed my mind too. There could be a LOT of disqualifications this round.

I don’t know much about U2, but this makes me want to shoot the moon. My first lyrics will be “I found myself staring at the sun. Was I the only one? The lawyer did my case pro-Bono. I had been on the edge of a life sentence, oh no.”

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Five "Where The Streets Have No Name"
Contrary to popular belief, those six words existed before that song! I mean, it's not like the title is "Hey Jude" or "Bo Diddley".
But yes, of course, it's an impossibly high bar.

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Five "Where The Streets Have No Name"
Everyone please make sure to cross reference every lyric, melody, and chord progression in your song with every U2 song to make sure there is no overlap at all. (The tongue-out emoji is meant to indicate that I am just kidding around.)

I like it. If song contains nothing but U2 references you get a 100% and everyone else gets zero. But it only works if you're the only one that does this.grumpymike wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 8:41 amI don’t know much about U2, but this makes me want to shoot the moon. No, we meant you can't cover the U2 song of the same name, or refer to it.

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Five "Where The Streets Have No Name"
I understood what you meant. You can’t have a scene in a bar where the jukebox is playing “where the streets have no name” and you can’t have a lyric where you say “we danced all night to where the streets have no name”, etc. This isn’t a hard challenge to understand, just to pull off. But I actually don’t think it’s so bad.
Everyone complaining is going to get cut this round anyway.

Sorry to hear that! You've made a huge impact on the competition and I'd have put money on you making the final! No way to even record an acoustic track on your phone or anything?

I would even vote to have your immunity transferred over a week since your immunity song was probably the best song of that week anyway. Shame when a competition like this loses one of its top contenders. I hope you’ll get a song in anyway, by hook or crook

Can next week's challenge be that everyone's songs can only include instruments played by hitting them with Hot Wheels?
