the video is about twice as good as the song, and the animation is about 3 X better than the video.Niveous wrote:The Middlefork "Happy and you know it".

I had a show in Bethlehem (New Hampshire) last night. On the way there, I listened to the album Will Power by Joe Jackson.
On the way home, I put in Duty Now For The Future by Devo.
My new(ish) car has a tape deck, so I'm reacquainting myself with all my old tapes. Both of these tapes stood the test of time admirably.

Which is which? I am faced with the two albums and trying to choose one is a nightmare enough that I probably won't end up buying either without some guidance1reve wrote:Bright Eyes have two new albums. The one I thought would suck I liked, and the one I thought I'd like sucked.

i like them both. i personally prefer the folky one (i'm wide awake, it's morning). the other one doesn't have as many solid songs imo. neither of them are as strong as old bright eyes.

Cool, thanks, Dan - i'll try the folky one .....
After a short trip abroad, I have come back full of the joys of flamenco. I 'discovered' Jorge Drexler (he's pretty famous now - apparantly he won best song oscar for his song in 'Motorcycle Diaires') but the album I bought - 'Eco' (meaning Echo according to my spnaish-speaking other half) is a really good mix of modern flamenco / south american guitar music and subtle electronic percussion - really pleasant and the lyrics (some of them anyway, where translated for me) are pretty profound and / or moving.
Listen for a clumsy attempt at the spanish tinge to my music sometime soon!

I have 'Digital Ash in a Digital Urn' and I've a tiny bit of 'I'm Wide Awake' and from what I've heard, 'I'm Wide Awake' is much better, but 'Digital Ash' has it's moments.
Other things I'm diggin.
'O.C.M.S.' by Old Crow Medicine Show is FANTASTIC. I absolutely love it.
'Funeral' by Arcade Fire is a great album as well. Recommended.
'So Jealous' by Tegan and Sara is good, but it sounds like a lot of 'indie' groups around these days. Worth buying if you're into that.
'Uninvisible' by Medeski Martin and Wood is fantastic. Acid jazz at it's finest.
'The Sun Will Come Out to Blind You' by C. Layne. Great work man. This is a fantastic album, and I don't say that just cause you're a songfighter. The coolest part is hearing some of my favorite songfight songs, redone, and they're even BETTER then the originals.

Digging
Just got back from VHS or Beta and Ambulance LTD. If they roll through your city I highly recommend going.

i've been really digging that one song they've been playing on the radio, "still loving you" ------ err no wait i mean "the widow".
but then when i downloaded the non-radio-edit version i found the ending of it to be super annoying and long and boring. i was totally ready to buy the album based on the strength of that song alone, but if it's also full of filler crap like that, i may have to reconsider.

I hit the CD store almost immediately after coming back from a big ol' backpacking trip and picked up Electric Larryland by the Butthole Surfers (I only had Independent Worm Saloon before) and Madvillainy by Madvillain. I just want to reiterate - I adore the Butthole Surfers and I think they are genius. I know I'm in the minority. Also, Madvillain is incredibly impressive and I might try to put down a serious hip-hop track some day in the near future here?

they are totally pretentious, but that's something i can look past because the actual songs are really, really amazing. i'm still reeling from the first track.tviyh wrote:i've been really digging that one song they've been playing on the radio, "still loving you" ------ err no wait i mean "the widow".
