Tumbleweed

Tumbleweed
by Lichen Throat

Dear Natalie,
Today I got up early and drove from Phoenix to Jerome.
It was a cold morning, and frost was on the cactus needles and tumbleweeds, glittering in the sunrise.
Later, I stopped at a roadside stand to buy souvenirs; they had Old West cowboy stuff, but all of it was made in Japan.

Dear Natalie,
I left the Hopi village at Second Mesa and drove up to the Northern Rim.
I wish you could be here, but it might be better to wait until summer, since I'll be on the road a lot until then.

I hiked down to the bottom of the Canyon. I met a new friend on the trail,
and when it cooled off at night, we sat on a blanket and looked up at the stars.
There must have been 10,000 in the sky, and they almost seemed to overlap.

Dear Natalie,
I'm in Flagstaff, renting space in a trailer park this week.
Even though it's not on a reservation, there are a lot of Native kids here. One boy just walked right past me.
He kicked a tumbleweed, and his mother called him home, where the Arizona moon met the Arizona sun.
Maybe you can come later this summer.

Balance Lost

Signals are shot into the sky
Never expect a reply
Never ask for a reason why
This lonely road's my only friend
Timing failed yet again
Faulty programming

Silence stops these ears from finding out
The things I've tried to hide
Out here no one can hear me shout
I'm talking to the wind

Grit on my fingernails and shoes
If I stop then so should you
Tumbleweed leaves a clue
What made them so annoyed?
Radio to fill the void
Batteries and solenoids

Silence stops these ears from finding out
The things I've tried to hide
Out here no one can hear me shout
I'm talking to the wind

Housed in a soul like a crumbling building
Worst compulsions are gonna come out

Each way the sand blows
Buried, overgrown
You can never go home again (x3)

Third Cat - "Tumbleweed"

feels like it's time to give in
crawl into the dirt
just let the tumbleweed roll over me

it can be so hard to find a reason

to go on, keep going on
pushing through another day
go on, keep going on
let this love find a way

feels like it's time to give in
crawl into the dirt
just let the tumbleweed roll over me

it can be so hard to find a reason

to go on, keep going on
pushing through another day
go on, keep going on
let this love find a way

can't let the tumbleweed roll over me
can't let the tumbleweed roll over me

Tumbleweed

So the night slides by
With a rattle like a skateboard deck
I sit across from you at Denny's, eating Moons over My Hammy,
Pretending I like you for your intellect
Summertime lingers
Like it knows it's going out of style
I know you want to use me by the way you talk right through me
But maybe we can use each other for a while

Nothing around here changes
So we're just killing time
Current status: stasis
Frozen, with a pump or two of cherry lime
Waiting at the top of the waterslide

Let the wind blow
Let it roll me like a tumbleweed straight out of town
I'm boring and I'm bored enough to burn it down
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's blow this joint
Set our GPSes to the vanishing point
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go

We walk past fountains
At the Cupertino city park
Looking for the ducks to feed, but all the ducks have gone to sleep
Tucked their heads away when it got dark
Look at them
We should be sleeping too
But underneath the slide, we sit in tanbark, side by side,
And I think about if I want to sleep with you

Nothing around here changes
So we're just killing time
Current status: stasis
Frozen, with a pump or two of cherry lime
I want to taste your chapstick when we say goodbye

Let the wind blow
Let it roll me like a tumbleweed straight out of town
I'm boring and I'm bored enough to burn it down
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's blow this joint
Set our GPSes to the vanishing point
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go
Tumbleweed, you and me, let's go

TUMBLEWEED
by The JBB

VERSE
Happiness and love and discotheques
None of these our science detects
But this is what the state of the art reflects:
Life on Earth has lasting effects

CHORUS
The living dead are all aware
They’re rolling like a tumbleweed
Even my last breath of air
Is rolling like a tumbleweed

Every time I didn’t care,
Rolling like a tumbleweed
Every night I wasn’t there,
Rolling like a tumbleweed

BRIDGE
And when you die, your memory,
A ghostly tumbleweed,
Scatters what you meant to me
Long after you cease to be

VERSE
The only way to leave no trace
Is to never be born in the first place

CHORUS
blippity blop ya don’t stop heyyyyyyyyy

Hey ya’ll,
I’m still here, just too damn busy to finish anything. Kris and I spent the last week in Nashville. Too much fun !!!
Didn’t work or record anything, simply enjoyed the atmosphere. Saw a few friends and made a few ‘yeah, let’s do that sometime ‘ promises... but, the thing is, it’s not the same....

Anyways, I wrote this and recorded it in the hotel room.... I’ve done this many times... maybe I’ll do an ‘unsubmitted’ album some day ..... or not !!

tumbleweed ( toby roktot )
(G)

Well you didn’t say a word
slammed that door goodbye
never see you again by the fire in your eyes
tried to mend my ways, took a little too long
Now I’m sitting in this bar hummin tumble weed songs
(harp)

I’m howlin at the moon
Like a blue tick hound
seems like forever since you been around
Tryin to drink away your memory
it’s just takin too long
Here I sit in this bar singing tumbleweed songs

Chorus
There was a time .....I remember it well
I saw you standing there my heart just fell
You pulled into your magic spell
And I felllllllll...........fell for you

All you gotta do is
put a beer in my hand
After more than a few I understand
You ain’t comin back you are good and gone
sitting here on this stool, hummin those tumbleweed songs

Chorus
There was a time .....I remember it well
I saw you standing there my heart just fell
You pulled into your magic spell
And I felllllllll...........fell (hard) for you

(slowly)
All you gotta do is
put a beer in my hand
After more than a few I understand
You ain’t comin back you are good and gone................""

Tumbleweed
Evil Grin

I was drawn to the desert
Beauty of the barren land
Little did I know
I could not withstand

The wind is blowing dust in my eyes
Mirages beckon but they always deny
The sun demands that I make a new start
With a lizard skin and a tumbleweed heart

You used to be my desert
Sunset's calming glow
But now there's no comfort
In what I used to know

The wind keeps blowing dust in my eyes
Mirages beckon but they always deny
The sun demands that I make a new start
With a lizard skin and a tumbleweed heart

The sun demands that I make a new start
With a lizard skin and a tumbleweed heart

Intro (instrumental)
|Dm|Dm|Dm|Dm|G|G|G|G| (x2)

Verse 1
|Fm|Gm| (x4)

No friends, no one to talk to
Blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Take the news as fait accompli
Wandered the West, justice zombie

Just like Caine back in Kung Fu
You walk the Earth as it suits you
You’re not so much a Shaolin monk
You told the joke and the joke stunk

Pre-Chorus
|Dm| F#| (x4)

A well-trained ear can capture the grasshopper
Don't sell me fear and rapture bargain shoppers
The last thing you want is never-ending glory
The idiot savant is ever bending stories

Chorus
|Gm | Gm/F | Eb| Eb|

Tumbleweed rolls along
Fumbling and gets it wrong

Intro (instrumental)
|Dm|Dm|Dm|Dm|G|G|G|G| (x2)

Verse
|Fm|Gm| (x4)

He thinks that silence is a virtue
He hopes he doesn't have to hurt you
Up close a pointillist painting
Stand back to understand the shading

The night brought soft illumination
He didn't fit in this equation
No one needed his defending
Intentions were unattended

Pre-Chorus
|Dm| F#| (x4)

He's on a quest to find the best solution
Sometimes it's best to let it go and move on
His wanderlust keeps him from ever putting roots down
He ponders if he's remembered in the future

Chorus
|Gm | Gm/F | Eb| Eb|

Tumbleweed rolls along
Fumbling and gets it wrong

Tumbleweed rolls along
Stumbling to bang a gong
