There's a punchline somewhere in between this title and the optional challenge.

Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
Toshiro just bought me my iPad in bed so I could “start making my song with 18 chords in it”. Shocking. I think the most I’ve had so far is 10. Or 12.
Also I started making my song an hour ago in my head after the dog woke up the first time demanding breakfast an hour early. He didn’t get his breakfast, but we did get the theme via texts from @gizo.

Oh god. Hahaha. I blame having just woken up. And Giz. Or maybe autocorrect. I can blame the terrible autocorrect of ios13 for every mistake I ever make now right?

Be careful. With vibraslap comes great responsibility. I used a vibraslap in Corvette just FOUR TIMES and got ... vibraslapped for it.
Merle Fyshwick wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2016 12:34 amAnd then the vibraslap. Makes me wonder how often in a song it can be used effectively. I think maybe the spacing is more important than the sheer number of times it's used.
Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.

Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
I'm planning more than one project for this fight so I spent today doing the pigfarmer entry. I had a vibroslap only on the last beat of the song but figured that might be cheating in terms of meeting the optional challenge. So now it has THREE TIMES as many vibroslap..erm... slaps. I did use my pandeiro for most of the percussion which is a nice unintended consequence of the optional challenge.
All that to say... in.

I'm trying to channel Black Flag, which has been an interesting journey so far. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up.

Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
Phlebia is officially submitted. And special thanks to Ryan from Jerkatorium for the shredding!
I was aiming for Motorhead-esque myself but my voice is so, so un-Lemmylike. Excited to hear your Black Flag homage!

Well I'm going for TSwift meets New Order, except it currently sounds like Hunters & Collectors...

I'm sure you won't sound "like a tired Mark Seymour lyric" though, crump.
And likewise, I'm sure my Black Flag efforts will end up sounding like something totally different (especially when I discovered I had no tools to plug my guitar & bass into the laptop).

Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
I've been told mine sounds like Neil Diamond, or the Dave Clark Five, or basically "old-guy stuff" is I think what my reviewers are saying here. That's not what I was going for, but neither was I avoiding it. It just came out that way.
The problem is in the structure, not something to be fixed in the mix. ("Maybe if we re-track the percussion with bongos. . .") I'll just pretend I was going for retro, and then I can be some kind of hipster.

I might sound "like a tired Mark Seymour" though; ie, slightly flat throughout.
Also, you should see if Toshiro will play bass for you, as he seems to have given up on his own song.

Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
Hey, if it weren't for old guy stuff, there wouldn't be any new guy stuff! A fair chunk of my early musical development came from my dad playing me "old-guy stuff". Based on the size of his record collection, it's not like there's a shortage of "old-but-great".AJOwens wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:26 pmI've been told mine sounds like Neil Diamond, or the Dave Clark Five, or basically "old-guy stuff" is I think what my reviewers are saying here. Re: You must respect it (Personal Space prefight)
We both wound up capitalizing PERSONAL SPACE!! in our lyrics, so I'm fairly sure that we're on a similar wavelength this go round.
