Liberty Street
Liberty Street - gizo
(with apologies to RxW, Vom Vorton, and Wonderfalls)
I’ve lost my curiosity
Like something’s died inside of me
Staring at the precipice - no piss to crystallise
Just my stupid worthless self to hate and to despise
Driving fast one hundred twenty miles an hour
Down this melancholy highway
I can’t play this number on repeat
I need an intersection
Right on red
Right on red
Right on red
at Liberty Street

Vom Vorton
let’s rank the countries
to help us pass the time
start at the bottom
and I’d like to suggest: mine
we might not have a gun problem
we might not be on fire
but we crashed out of Europe
after voting for a liar
so hold up your banners
and shout that life is sweet
as everyone locks their doors
on Liberty Street
let’s privatise the country
sell off the NHS
so there’s no-one left to save us
when the whole country’s depressed
we’ll wave our fucking Union Jacks
as life goes down the shitter
like the red-faced little Englanders
all I taste is bitter
so roll out the bunting
shout that life is sweet
as nobody collects the bins
on Liberty Street
fuck your commemorative tea-towels
enjoy your chlorinated meat
while nobody picks up the shit

Liberty Street - Brown Word and the Big Whine
Have you been good all your life
Seldom seen and never heard,
Going with the madding crowd,
Afraid to leave the curb?
Come on down to Liberty Street
Strut your stuff on Liberty Street
We do what we want
Strut your stuff on Liberty Street
It's legal or it's not
On Liberty Street there are no stop signs
Are you tired of the yes sir no sir,
Waiting in the queue,
Let the boss control you?
Tired of being pushed around?
Come on down to Liberty Street
Strut your stuff on Liberty Street
We do what we want
Strut your stuff on Liberty Street
It's legal or it's not
On Liberty Street there are no stop signs
The decadence, the cruel excess
The glamour and the waste
Prosperity, perversity
The sicknesses we taste
Drive your Ford down Liberty Street
Like you see it on TV
Unbridled freedom for the taking
Nothing's out of reach
Be pig in shit, be clad in gold
Be sneaking thief, be big and bold
Be naked screaming in the night
Be slick with blood and full of fight
The streets are yours!

Phlebia - Liberty Street
Remember springtime, those crisp and cloudless days
Our fields awash in colors, your efflorescent laze
As the birds make their return
And the mosses and the ferns
And the grasses rise from bare ground
Transfixed by this playground
I watched the bees with envy, those fertile pollinators
The stamen and the pistil, the fruitful incubators
Our summer comes with such temptation
Our hormonal sequestration
Daydreaming of the sweet guttations
It's only natural to me...
Let's drop the metaphors, you know just what I'm saying
Responsibilities they leave no time for playing
Try to cheat our nature with barriers and pills
Perfect application requires perfect skill
I'm tired of this contradiction
This compulsive physiological addiction
Just wanna come and go where I please
I'm on my way to Liberty Street
And so I got to reading, looking for a taste of freedom
Put an end to my worries, maintain the size of my kingdom
And now they make the incision, finally I smell the burning
Free at least to indulge these primal yearnings
Don't know why I waited all this time
To give myself some peace of mind
Now I come and go where I please
Here I am on Liberty Street

Liberty Street - Hot Pink Halo
***
A double-decker drops me off
On Liberty Street
Two blocks of freedom
Bridging the divide
From Grattan through to Main
We can cross to the other side
A city full of history right here
Under my feet
I don't know its stories yet
They're layered and they're vast
They whisper softly to me
Crossing over from the past
A wall disappeared
A life on the Lee
A river split in two
As it flows into the sea

Liberty Street - Paco del Stinko
I lived on Liberty Street in the summer of '83
It was down in the marsh across the street from the beach
A blue and silver tin can with a porch on the side
Only a foot from the next trailer which stood twice as high
It didn't really matter much I mostly just crashed there
But you could still hear the waves rumble and smell the salt air
I'd walk a mile to work to cook hot dogs and fried dough
We stayed open late to serve the drunks after the Frolics' last show
Sometimes after we closed we'd go to Leo's house to play dice
Winning and losing til the sun came up we never thought it was a vice
The center looked so different in the grey morning light
All the amusements and rides closed save for the ghosts of last night
Sometimes I'd sleep on the beach on a towel in the sand
Snoozing away under the sun what a nice tan
I only wore shoes when I went to work and the soles of my feet turned to leather
I was young lean and in shape and I probably never looked better
Liberty street is still there but me and the trailer are long gone
And even though I don't live in the past the memories are strong
And even though I don't live in the past the memories are strong
The memories live on

Liberty Street

The first night that I spent on my own
I listened to the sirens going by
And I thought, I'll never make it
Without my lover sleeping by my side
The first day that I spent on my own
I dropped my earring down the bathroom drain
And I called his name
Then remembered I was living there alone
I'd gone to look at places, didn't think I could afford them
Until I saw the Craigslist ad for a studio apartment
Above Liberty Street, just enough for me
And I realized I could be free
And if I die on Liberty Street, I think I'll be happy
I feel the light of Liberty Street on my face, and I'm happy
Didn't think my life could change like this, it's strange to be happy
On Liberty Street, in a studio apartment
On Liberty Street, in a studio apartment
The first time that I felt like sleeping in
I got up at noon and no-one said a word
And I thought, how strange
Saying what I want and being heard
I wanted brunch but I'd never dared
To ask the host for a table just for one
It turned out that no-one cared
So I sat and ate my pancakes in the sun
And realized I felt happy there alone
And if I die on Liberty Street, I think I'll be happy
I feel the light of Liberty Street on my face, and I'm happy

Take a look at my jagged claws

I'm gifted
They know my name on Liberty Street
Whatchoo wanna see?
Careful whatchoo do
Keep an eye out for the popo cause he sho nuff eyeballing you

Knew a girl on Liberty Street
Nice smile but smelly feet
She'd shake her hips all through the night
I'd keep tryin' 'till I got it right
I can't forget Liberty Street
All of the creepy people
That we would meet
I can't forget Liberty Street

Nick Soma - Liberty Street
Carefully planning for tomorrow
Too much for you to bear
Drowning in a sea of sorrow
Cracks in the mask that you wear
You can stand in the light, but you won't see
Take a walk on Liberty Street, but you're not free
You can walk anywhere, you're not free
Adapting to a world so shallow
Doing whatever you're told
And what's inside you can't unfold
No freedom but security
Go have a walk on Liberty Street, but you're not free
Somehow
You always
Seem to end up
On the FLOOOOOOOORRRR!
Wonder why you're feeling hollow
These things are over your head
You could choose, but you'll just follow
Why not think for yourself instead?
Alright, I know that you're not me
But walking on this street of liberty
Do you really think that you are free?
You can walk anywhere, but you won't see
Do you even care if you are free?
Carefully planning for tomorrow
Too much for you to bear
Drowning in a sea of sorrow
