I just had a look at the optional challenge. Well done for pairing that with “peak misery”.

Things I've learned songfighting: my depressive and moody entries usually never get many votes, while my peppy ones do. And now we've got "Peak Misery" for a title? Must. Suppress. Gothy. Tendencies...

Huh, I turn 47 next month. I guess that means I should do a song. Plus, it's FAWM.

My five year old said he was going to try and write a song for this. We'll see if he remains committed.

47 was a great year. I won Nur Ein when I was 47. Went to SF live in DC. The peak misery preceded it. 47 was my rebirth year.HeuristicsInc wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 1:35 pmHuh, I turn 47 next month. I guess that means I should do a song. Plus, it's FAWM.

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
In, uncharacteristically early, with a glum little 1-4-5 number about some family stuff. I realized I probably won't get around to doing a better recording/mix in the next week, and so I might as well submit it now. I still kind of want to write a happy one...

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
I'm only 37 so I'm going to write a song, but spend ten years on it.
Actually I've gotten the music recorded but lost my voice due to annual cold / flu that literally always occurs during FAWM when I most want to be singing. Hopefully I'll be fighting fit by the weekend, otherwise I'll have to recruit an assistant. Or croak my way through it anyway.

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
I'm so far out of my comfortable genres with this one, I have no idea how it'll turn out. But that was the most fun I've had recording bass in a long time...

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
Thank you! I drew it in Paint.net.
I really liked yours too, but I wish one of the phrases was "song fight", because it'd make me laugh to see it in there among the miseries.

yeah, I thought about that after I had uploaded. I was even looking for an extra phrase or two there towards the end.

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
Brown Word in, with something definitely different and yes, even the ol' 1-4-5. Just some backstory on the lyrics as they are predictably depressing. I was once a young foolish punk rocker palling around with other young foolish punk rockers and we were staying at a this massive party house (as in the house was huge, probably 10 people lived there). There was a wall where folks had left their names, various graffiti, wiener doodles, and in the midst of all of this someone had written in the smallest most defeated-looking script "I hate my friends". My own friends at the time weren't too bad but I also knew how crappy people you think are your buddies can turn out to be. You think everything is so severe as a youngster- the hurts are all new. Later in life it's more of a dull thud Then you find yourself in your 40's and start looking around and you either find some really stalwart pals, or a bunch of flakes who you really love but never see anymore

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
Got my track submitted, and yet again went for an entirely new style! Because somehow "Peak Misery" translated to a funky number about a sexy flight attendant, though I only know one flight attendant and it's definitely not about her. Maybe the end is a little bit abrupt, and I realized that "this is misery..." is kind of buried under a snare fill. But y'know what. It brought the funk. And it's got hand claps, skweee synths, "yeah yeah yeahs", "ooooooooo"s, and a sample of my son's toy airplane.
I did successfully incorporate the optional challenge, though the chord progression in the chorus was IV-V-IV-V-I. It's mostly just vamping in E dorian though.

Re: When you turn 47 (Peak Misery prefight)
I've managed to write and record a song for this fight. Thanks to my lovely partner for making me make time and for providing some valuable suggestions for my song.
I get to stare into her eyes as we sing duets at our show this evening, if'n ya'all are into love and all that, this is "peak love". ha.

In! I managed a slightly less broken lead vocal before submitting, thankfully. Really enjoyed this one, had fun going a bit retro wall-of-sound.

this works a fuckin dream
Sad you're not gonna be Celine Dion-ing this one (said nobody ever) but maybe this is life's way of telling you to make instrumental music. P.s. hope you get better soon. P.p.s I love the sound of your voice. P.p.p.s. I think I'm suffering sarcasm withdrawal from living in a country which doesn't understand sarcasm. Don't take it personally (hugs)vowlvom wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 9:23 amActually I've gotten the music recorded but lost my voice due to annual cold / flu that literally always occurs during FAWM when I most want to be singing.
