Butthole Surfers are cool. I recommend "Rembrandt Pussyhorse/Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis." It's a crazy album/EP combo.
Also, some live shows:

at work right now, so I'm cranking Lateralus - Tool. Screw 'em. (the Work people, I mean..)

In the car on the way too work, Before The Dawn Heals Us - M83. I know I've mentioned them before...but I feel compelled to re-iterate, this album is wonderful. The textures at times are nothing but pure bliss. I'd love to see a huge live show touring this album.

OK, it's been settled. 'I'm Wide Awake It's Morning' is DEFINITELY the way to go for the new Bright Eyes double releases. Don't even bother with Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. I mean, it's pretty good, but doesn't even compare with I'm Wide Awake.

Also, in response to the above post, I'd never heard of a lot of the stuff people post about here in the Currently Digging thread. But due to the widespread liking of M83, I checked out some of their stuff, and my god are they amazing. Definitely plan on buying one of their albums soon hopefully. The same thing happened with XTC, and now I absolutely love them as well.

We're in a little bit of a warm spell up here, so I've been driving around listening to Lush's album 'Gala'. To me, it's the sound of summer.

They're both great albums, and I know I'm in the minority, but I must say I disagree. Both albums have rich lyrics, but musically, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning was far blander. Digital Ash was more experimental and sonically interesting.

IMO. :)

The Kaiser Chiefs

Ok. Just finished listening to Employment, their debut. These guys are either going to have a blow-your-mind 2nd album or a total shit one. But they have all the elements to blow it wide open.

Employment starts pretty strong out of the gate. It gets lost in itself with some "young" songwriting about halfway through and never picks itself up after that. They have some neat ideas, and this album will definitely make a big splash. I'm just not sure if it has the depth I think it'll need to carry them to a 2nd one. I hope so, because that one might really cook. I'm flagging these guys.

***WARNING***

The website is awful. :)

----------------------------

The Mars Volta

I'm not sure how I'd not heard of these guys before reading about them here, but holy fuck!!! I haven't given Frances the Mute a detailed listen, more of a preview, but this band are a bunch of musical monsters! It's a tough one to crack into, but I think anyone who gets through the complicated exo-shelleton of the prog elements will be rewarded with a sweet-ass album. Definitely a musician's album. If you like prog, this will be no problem for you to digest.

***WARNING***
If you are surfing at work, this site blasts out of your speakers right away.
I hate that.

Additional warning - The Kaiser Chiefs are rubbish. Bad brit pop 10 years too late.

The Mars Volta are hippies.

Not that The Hip Cola and I have diametrically opposing views on music, or anything :) Just warning you that I really dislike the blandness / lazy phrase-mongering of the Kaiser Chiefs. Plus their singer is a podgeball...

Haha...what's a podgeball? Oddly enough, I'd agree with your assesment of TKC in some regards, but that said I did enjoy it on some level. Lazy phrase mongering seems apt. There are definitely some boring, if not ridiculous moments on that album. I do think that they have the potential for greatness on the next album.

Funny, we do seem to be at opposite ends of the Currently Digging stick. One of us must have questionable taste.... :)

Haha - well, I think most people's opions of my own music answers your 'questionable taste' question for most people, THC :)

A podgeball = is a general j$-ism for mental fatness ... he really is quite annoyingly 'I'm so quirky and wacky' :)

Podgeball screams out to be a bandname. I suggest a THC/J$ collab under that name. :)

Hee hee...I think that's a great idea. Whaddya think J$? Can the world stand Podgeball? :)

LOVE your explanation it the word. I can't disagree with you about the singer...I felt exactly how you explained it. He's a podgeball for sure.

Mudvayne - LD50.

Mudvayne rules. Awesome heavy talent. New album April 12th. Watch for it.

-----
Followed up by The Cinematic Orchestra, who are supremely chill and a great jazzy/dub/ambient/fusion group on the Ninja Tune label. Lots of wicked cool stuff on that label.

Long weekends make me smile. As do mornings, coffee and The Cinematic Orchestra. :)

These cats played at the Harbourfront around my B-day in the last couple of years. They were a hot band live. It was a nice summer day making my way there. Except the coffee was replaced with Ceasars on a dockside bar on the island. Good day and night.

A friend from school's older sister has a record contract or some jazz and she's pretty funky. That and she's veeeery pretty, and has a voice to match. So go check out her music.

I concur with THC about the new SOAD. Somewhere in this thread I listed a link to the new song, Cigaro.

I'm also excited about the new Weezer. Is it just me or does "Beverly Hills" sound very Brother Machine?

Yeah!!!! Not often are bands able to mix dreamy euphoria with naked rage.

I just have scream that Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger is probably my all time favorite. I spend alot of time sitting here like wet ashes with x's in my eyes, drawing flies.

deluxe edition includes bonus tracks and a really lame dvd.

i think the original album has 13 tracks, but this one has 20, 4 or 5 of which i believe are remixes. i haven't gotten that far in it yet.

the dvd sucks. it's pretty much the album, but it's got some visualizations that go along with it. it also has a picture gallery, but the pictures aren't very interesting. looks like a high school photo class' field trip memories or something. the best thing about it is it has the video for 'e-pro', which i love.

the album 'selfless' by godflesh. specifically 'go spread your wings', the epic 23+ minute closer. it's so heavy i can't believe it.
