Corona Chord at Sunset

Post by roymond »

Today, I'm starting something called the Corona Chord at Sunset.
It happens daily at local sunset time.

Not so much a performance as a meditation, it is an ambient collaboration from our homes, no matter who takes part.

The Corona Chord is a Cmaj9: C - E - G - B - D ...

-> each player broadcasts at 'tasteful' volumes
-> one note at a time, sustained for 10 - 20 seconds, with varying dynamics
-> smooth transitions to another note within the chord
-> there is no melody. it's an ambient drone.

...creating a calm wash over the jitters and anxieties of our new world.

Sunset marks another day passed (yet most everyone is still awake).
As more people take part, it becomes a shared daily ritual.
As unaware people become aware that it happens at sunset, they search for "what the fuck is happening at sunset?" and, with any luck, they discover the Corona Chord and they take part. At sunset.

Eventually, we will sunset this virus (the deeper hope).

Join in. Listen. Sigh.

Works for me! Can we play it as a low droning C on a huge amp so it's Corona Chord at Sunn 0))set?

Do you have a guitar fingering for that chord? Also that looks like a Cmaj7/9 to me.

Maybe leverage open strings, and just put one finger down, third fret on the A string?

Ooh yeah that works. I was overthinking it and trying to build off a Cmaj7.
