NUR EIN XV - The Handbook

rain - the handbook

step 1, if you’re gonna try and get out of this mess you’re in,
you’re gonna wanna steel yourself - cause this one is your fault
step 2! yeah, you gotta get a little introspective,
a little bit detective, and then you’ve gotta work out what you done

if you’re looking for a voice to guide you through
I don’t wanna pretend that that is something I can do

this is a handbook
you don’t understand: look,
you gotta do it for yourself
this is a handbook
just-make-a-plan-book
you gotta do it for yourself
cause you’re wasting time
like you wasted mine
to get over all this mess
this is a handbook
you don’t understand: look,
you gotta do it for yourself

step 3, if you want a hint, then can I recommend,
you think about the way you’ve been for all the last few years
step 4, and when you’ve worked it out, write an apology,
put that apology where I don’t have to see it

if you’re looking for a voice to guide you through
can I suggest you see a therapist or two?

this is a handbook
you don’t understand: look,
you gotta do it for yourself
this is a handbook
just-make-a-plan-book
you gotta do it for yourself
cause you’re wasting time
like you wasted mine
to get over all this mess
this is a handbook
you don’t understand: look,
you gotta do it for yourself

and if you wanna reach out, can I suggest
that you try not to make everything about you
and just don’t

"The Handbook" - Third Cat

first you must unbecome
so you'll be unborn
unmade, unformed

second step; feel the light
'till you're Syd from Floyd
fall in the void

third step is let go
'till you really know
energy flow

the handbook to nothing
a pathway to peace
true it can be hard
hard to release

nowhere
and there's no one
you can really leave
no words
no story
you have to believe

the handbook to nothing
a pathway to peace
true it can be hard
hard to release

The Handbook - Inflatable Vegetables

We wanna get stuff finished [Do the handbook]
Improve our style of living [Do the handbook]
Accomplish dreams and visions [Do the handbook]
We wanna all be winners [Be the handbook]
Yeah

My life is interruptions
The dim dark distractions
That blank block my focus
And try to stop actions
Aim to follow plans
I start well but once again
Something shiny on-line and
I’m back on the forums

My baby be demanding am I on task
And Veggies be saying don’t ask

CH

Step one to get stuff done is get your tasks in one place
Collect your in box, the bin box and the folders in your brain
Should you do it? If not, screw it - throw the task in the trash
Then debate should you delegate it pass to an assistant

Can you finish in two minutes go ahead and get it going
If it’s complex set your first step and outcome by brainstorming
Group your tasks by context, like email or telephoning
Calendar your deadlines and start to get it flowing

PC - CH

Meaning in the handbook, yeah
I want to make a difference
Beat me with your handbook, yeah
[Cuz] you say I’m never making sense
Silence in the handbook, yeah
Violence in the handbook, yeah
Guidance in the handbook, yeah

THE HANDBOOK
Nuke Skyblaster Reporting for DUTY!!!!

Whenever you are making tongue and groove joints
The general practice is to start with the groove
then make a tongue to fit the groove
Mine has an 8 inch wide cutter on it
and i have installed an oversized bearing to give my cutter about a quarter inch of exposure
The brand new Heavy & Mass Connections Handbook
Then cut the groove
Then cut the groove
Then cut the groove
Then cut the groove
We will provide hard copies of the structural screw design guide

Cut the cheek and the shoulder of the tongue in one pass
And raise it till the top of the bit just kisses the groove
the most common structural details are explained
Like butt joints
Lap joints
Butt joints
Lap joints

So you want the tongue
To be able to move in the groove
So you want the tongue
To be able to move in the groove
So can can get a good fit of the tongue in the groove,
in many unique loading scenarios.
Fast and efficient

The tongues will be done in many unique loading scenarios.
Fast and efficient
Butt butt butt butt butt joints

What you're going for is and easy friction fine between parts,
Because remember, the slats are going to expand and contract with moisture
So you want the tongues to be able to move in the groove.
Move in the groove
Move in the groove

Jon Eric - The Handbook
(apologies for editing this twice since posting the lyrics... twice)

[verse 1]
Establish a presence
In another tribe's fort
Make a ghillie suit, keep a low profile
Observe and record

[chorus 1]
Row the boat with your bare hands
Forge ahead with no scout
You will overcome missing the day
They gave The Handbook out

[verse 2]
Maybe you're stupid
That's not what I think
You're a Bible of brittled out binding glue
Upside-down pages, and smudged ink

[chorus 2]
Guess at north with no compass
Plot a course through your doubt
You will overcome missing the day
They gave The Handbook out

[bridge]
You think of it like a cross to bear
Something akin to a curse
People tell you you're not alone
But what you're going through's worse

[verse 3]
Did you sleep through it?
Were you even born?
No matter, you've cobbled some intel
From pages discarded and torn

[chorus 3]
Tunnel free with your fingers
Stay ever devout
You will overcome missing the day
They gave The Handbook out

You’ll be forgiven for missing the day
They gave The Handbook out
It won't even matter that you missed the day
They gave The Handbook out

okay so I'm gonna put liner notes in with my lyric, as there's a lot of very personal, hyperspecific lyrics here. Hopefully the song can be enjoyed without any liner notes, but I want to give some context. To distinguish between the two, my lyrics are in bold, the footnotes are under each verse/chorus as spoilers

TL;DR version: my song is a step by step guide to coming out, except there's no universal coming out experience, so I made it a step by step guide to *MY* coming out experience. And then the chorus is more generally attacking the heteronormative "handbook" we're all expected to follow by default and that's hammered into queer children growing up.

Here's the song:

THE HANDBOOK - THE LOWEST BITTER

Step 1,
admit it to yourself,
you've been thinking about;
- shirtless Jin from LOST *a lot*,
- the cover of "Lovesexy",
- and George, your lab partner in chemistry,
- and the time you kissed a boy while playing spin the bottle on the field by your house

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
basically a list of various gay eureka moments for me;
- Despite the fact that Sawyer and Jack were almost perpetually shirtless throughout LOST they clearly didn't do much for me, gimme shirtless Jin in the rain.
- I distinctly remember seeing my parents vinyl copy of the Prince album "Lovesexy" laying about at maybe around 10 or 11 and finding it... confusing.
- George, just a boy from school I had a crush on. He was sporty and popular and - despite me being a couple of rungs down the school's social hierarchy from him - nice to me. Dreamboat.
- So I actually kissed several boys in this spin the bottle game. Around the age of 14-15 me and a gang of friends used to hang out on the playing field by my house, getting drunk on cheap cider bought by whoever looked oldest. One time we played spin the bottle, despite the fact the ratio of boys to girls was about 2:1. It wasn't my suggestion. And obviously teenage logic dictates that the only thing gayer than kissing a boy would be being too chicken to kiss a boy for a dare, so there was no skipping if the bottle landed on someone of the same sex. So I think I probably kissed 4 or 5 of my male friends that night
Step 2,
admit it to a friend,
get drunk and tell Samantha,
drunk again and spell it out to Jack,
who you kinda had a crush on,
and you knew that he was straight,
you just wanted him to know that you were gay and say,
"it doesn't matter, mate"

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
It took me a while to come out to anyone after I'd come out to myself. Samantha was my friend who I worked with at Starbucks, I started working there aged 16 and she was (I think) the first person I came out to, either at 16 or 17. Samantha was a few years older than me and had a couple of gay friends so I knew she was a fairly safe bet to come out to. Jack was a friend who I must've come out to at around the same time, maybe a month or so later. He was totally cool with it. Way to go Jack! He did ask me which of our classmates I found attractive though and obviously I couldn't say YOU, JACK, IT'S YOOOOUUU!, so I flailed around and picked some vaguely good looking boy in my class.
yeah there's no one way to get it done,
all the toxic shit they taught to us,
we've got to overcome,
they make us children feel defective,
then expect us to glow up,
like we didn't lose years of our lives repressing this stuff,
well get fucked

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
Basically, queer childhoods can kinda suck. It does seem like things are slowly getting better, but when I was a kid queer visibility in the media was minimal and as for schools, section 28 - which banned schools from “promoting homosexuality”, which really meant "mentioning gay people at all, ever" - wasn't repealed until I was 14 years old, by which point even if my school had attempted to talk to us about homosexuality (they didn't) it would've been too little too late.
Glow Up "1. verb To transform oneself in a significant way. The phrase can be applied to positive changes in one's appearance, but usually focuses more on one's successes in life and increased self-confidence. Modeled on the phrase "grow up." - It's a phrase which I see a lot on queer twitter, I've definitely seen stuff like #LGBTQglowup trending, and in general there's a lot of LOOK HOW WELL I'M DOING, FUCK YOU defiance in the way queer people present themselves on social media. Which is great, but the truth is a lot of the time we're not doing well.
take the handbook,
and tear it up
(get fucked)
yeah they can take their handbook,
and tear it up

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
the handbook - the ideal that parents/ school/ society hammer into you throughout your childhood - a heterosexual marriage and children
Step 3,
admit it to your parents,
mum will cry say that she just thought you were awkward around girls
she'll say "go out and tell your dad",
he's chopping wood,
wielding an axe,
like some cliched manly man,
and he won't know how to react

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
I didn't come out to my parents until I was 21 I think? Maybe even 22. So anyway, what my mum actually said wasn't that she thought I was awkward around girls, she said "I thought you were like the 40 year old virgin", which is much funnier but which I really couldn't shoehorn into this song no matter how hard I tried. Thanks mum for assuming I had zero game before even considering I might be gay.
After I came out to my mum she told me to go tell my dad. My dad was out in the garden chopping wood, like some metaphor for heterosexual manly machoness. On the plus side I clearly wasn't too worried about him having a homophobic freak out, considering I came out to him while he was wielding a weapon.
Step 4,
admit it to the world,
and again,
and yet again,
and still again,
it never ends
yeah sometimes you'll feel amazing,
but most times you'll find it boring,
telling them "throw out your handbook,
'cause there's nothing in there for me"

SPOILER
SPOILER_SHOW
coming out is tedious and repetitive and it never ends, both as an internal process of becoming more comfortable with and confident of your sexuality, and in knowing that each new person you meet is another person you'll have to decide whether to tell or not. And yeah coming out can be a cathartic and joyous experience, but most of the time it's just really dull.
there's no one way to get it done,
all the toxic shit they taught to us,
we've got to overcome,
they make us children feel defective,
then expect us to glow up,
like we didn't lose years of our lives repressing this stuff,
well get fucked

The Handbook (shadow entry)
by Lichen Throat

Left my friends, my home locale,
For a year on the Erie Canal.
Albany to Buffalo,
Summer heat and winter snow.
Watch the barges floating by—
Need a crewman? I’m your guy!
No handbook for this job,
Just the back of a hand.
I can’t cry; I can’t sob.
Nothing goes like I planned.
I am young, I am strong,
But they say I’m a fool.
Every task I do wrong
Earns a blow, hard and cruel.

Take this rope and tie it off.
Rinse and scrub the feeding trough.
Take this mop and swab the deck;
Clean off every stain and fleck.
Walk the towpath; whip the mule.
Eat your hardtack; slurp your gruel.
No handbook for this job,
Just the back of a hand.
I can’t cry; I can’t sob.
Nothing goes like I planned.
Morning light, sunset shade,
Dripping sweat, sunburned skin.
Roses bloom, lilacs fade.
Can I live like these men?

Low bridge! Everybody down!
Low bridge! Everybody down!

Church bells ring on Sunday morn;
Curse them as our barge floats past—
Objects of each others’ scorn.
Who was first, and who’ll be last?
Kneel before the deity
or make the dollar work for me?
No handbook for this job,
Just the back of a hand.
Call our crews uncouth mobs,
I’ll strike you where you stand.
Back and forth ’cross this land,
Once a boy, now a man.

Low bridge! Everybody down!
Low bridge! Everybody down!

the first step is to buy it online
(ignoring the shop at the end of your road)
scouring the internet first is fine:
maybe you’ll find a discount code
the next step is to stay up all night
refreshing a page on the tracking website

and everything else is explained within the handbook

one day later, wait by your door
(you don’t want to miss the delivery van)
place the box on the table, or floor
open as gently as you possibly can
slide off the shrinkwrap, smile tenderly
dispose of the box - sustainably

and everything else is explained within the handbook

thankyou for using this handy guide
now open the cover and step inside
(lawyers advise, the contracts confirm
by reading these words you agree to our terms)

there’s one more thing that you need to learn:
“absolutely no returns”

and everything else is explained within the handbook
and everything else is explained within the handbook

I'll admit it, I got pretty bummed out by being eliminated. The feedback was fair (and very much appreciated). I was disappointed that I didn't put enough into the song, however, instead of staying under the rock I found myself in I have attempted to address 2 things thrown my way. The lyrics being weak and my vocal delivery not packing a punch.

The Handbook (that I wrote) (shadow)
by see-man-ski

I'll watch myself deliver
another disappointment
I'll give myself a pat on the back
before the aftermath
I'll feed in time my ticker
another chance to prove my might
they say it's good to get it wrong
but then I rarely get it right

but if I keep on going
would it really be that bad
maybe someday I'll be
more like my own man

I'll watch myself consider
everything I lack in sight
a pocket watch to keep in time
the hands that feed my plight
it's a fools errand
but I'll reach out wide
and grab the nearest thing I find
to the cost of my health and mind

but if I keep on going
would it really be that bad
maybe someday I'll be
more like my own man

but if I keep on going
would I really go that mad
maybe someday I'll feel
more like my own man

take steps to be patient
be kind to your neighbour
be your own best friend
love yourself until the end

well I'd better get my coat
if I'm nothing more than a footnote
in the handbook that I wrote
in the handbook that I wrote

The Handbook - Frankie Big Face

Take a page from your handbook
And tear it in two
Then think about the things that you’d rather do
And show me that you care
Show me that you care

Cut out the next
Make a paper doll
Keep on going ‘til you’ve dressed them all
Then show me that you care
Yeah show me that you care

We spend a lifetime playing by the
Rules of the game
And everybody’s living the same
So come on now baby there’s an
Afterlife right here on earth
Or maybe it’s your next birth
The last step is also the first

Gather the pieces
In a funeral pyre
Ignite a match and watch it all expire
Baby if you dare
You can do it if you dare

Because life is a series of
Choices we’re all forced to make
And all the best ones are mistakes
Take your blood manifesto and your dogeared mind
And leave it all far behind
A metaphysical for sale sign

Nick Soma - The Handbook

When in need of instructions on how to go on,
Consult the Handbook to guide you along.

Step one, conjure up a magic well.
(See page 90 for how to perform such a spell.)
Step two, take a bone of a rabid dog,
Seven adders' eggs and the legs of a bullfrog,
Twenty-two grubs from beneath the soil,
Grind it all to a paste and bring milk to a boil.
Step three, stir the paste in, say your incantation,
As shown on page 12, so the spirits awaken.

Step four, when the potion has started to gel,
Empty your kettle into the well.
When in need of instructions on how to go on,
Consult the Handbook to guide you along.

Step five, be patient, it may take a while;
When haze is forming, take a bottle of bile,
And then pour it into the abyss too,
So the spirit you seek may come to you.

Step six, light a candle, stare into the flame.
And step seven, call out your spirit's name.
When in need of instructions on how to go on,
Consult the Handbook to guide you along.

(musical representation of spirit being summoned)

Take special care in which spirit you summon,
Cases of accidents are not uncommon.
And if it's taken possession of you,
Then there is nothing the Handbook can do.

Dear reader or spirit possessing them, know
That the Handbook will help you wherever you go.
When in need of instructions on how to go on,
Consult the Handbook to guide you along.

I’m not gonna write you the handbook
how to handle things
don’t let other people tell you what to do
you’ll be able to pull through

rethink everything
don’t believe the
textbook manipulation
think for yourself
there is no need
for indoctrination

I’m not gonna write you the handbook
and tell you how to behave
don’t let other people tell you what to do
find out for yourself
what’s wrong and what’s true

so I’m not gonna tell you
follow your heart
live and let live
count your blessings
forget and forgive
I’m not gonna tell you
to smile to people
and greet everyone
be positive
and try to have fun

I’m not gonna write me a handbook
of things I should do
but maybe I should
maybe I should

step 1: get out of my office
step 2: return to yours
step 3: take a couple hours
to exercise your problem solving powers

you won't become the hero without taking odysseys
don't be afraid to fail because you might learn to succeed

CHORUS
I'm not your personal handbook
I'm not the tour guide
I'm not your personal handbook
Go take up someone else's time

VERSE
step 1: shutdown the computer
step 2: turn off the phone
step 3: avoid all contact
till you're sick and tired of being alone

you'll never become needed if you hide you talent away
lending it to others will pay dividends someday

CHORUS
I'm not your personal handbook
But I'll be your guide
I'm not your personal handbook
But let’s figure out a compromise

you'll never learn to swim if you aren't tossed into the sea

The Handbook - Brown Word and the Big Whine (shadow entry)

I wasn't always a monster you see
I used to be several people who breathed
But if you ever want to make a monster like me
I have the handbook, the handbook, the handbook right here

First you must have a wicked desire
A taste for the necromantic hard-wired
Second the stomach to sift through remains
Of beggars and thieves, the departed insane

The handbook, the handbook, the handbook you see
If you ever want to make a monster like me

Third, hone the edge of scientific technique
For the customized lab you'll develop for me
Fourth, have no fear to meddle with fate
And call forth a brand new being incarnate

The handbook, the handbook, the handbook you see
If you ever want to make a monster like me

Finally, stand by this creature you've wrought
To fill it with all of the virtues of thought
Do not abandon this child you've brought
Through the dastardly deed of the playing of God

For I wasn't always a monster you see
I was raised by the real monster innocently
But if you ever want to make a monster like me
I have the handbook, the handbook, the handbook right here

The Handbook - Hot Pink Halo (shadow entry)

***

It's Sunday night and
You've got nothing to do
Except forget about the dishes
While you're trawling youtube
You wanna write a song but
You've the algorithm blues
Then your eye catches the sidebar
It's a project you can't refuse

Find yourself some paper
And tear it down to size
Fold it with a piece of bone
Then stab it through the spine
Three times
Sew it together
Tie a knot in the centre
That's how you make
That's how you make
That's how you make
That's how you make the handbook

If those sewing instructions are as
Clear as mud then
Try it like this
Before you come unstuck
Take a needle through the centre hole
From the inside and
Leave the end for later
When it'll be tied
Bring it back on through that hole
You made at the top
Pass it through the bottom
And come back to the middle
Where we stop
And pull it taut
Pick up those two hanging ends
And tie yourself a knot
Around the thread in the centre
That's how you sew the handbook

What you do next is up to you
Maybe a) draw a picture or
b) write a list or two

Or take another piece of paper and
Tear it down to size
Score it nice and sharp
Then stab it through the spine
Three times
Sew it together
Tie a knot in the centre
Paint some outer space or
Write a song like you meant ta
That's how you make
That's how you make
That's how you make
That's how you make the handbook

Balance Lost

I heard about the handbook when I was 17
They said it holds the secret to forgotten technologies
of a race that has since gone extinct
My interest piqued, I've been searching ever since
I got a ship with a navigation computer
No crew to hassle me, or mutiny
You don't trust me and I don't trust you
In the distant future, the year 2022

Got my first clue on Pluto
To tell the truth though, doesn't seem like much
Just a credit card with 2 holes
Dude said it was some kind of key
And told me to see his informant(man) on mercury
I followed the lead with suspicion
A snitch fishin for incriminating evidence
Eliminate the non-residents and make my getaway
With another key to add to my resume

For now I'll hide out in a meteor cloud
Wait for the heat to die down
As luck would have it, while I'm floating around
A piece of the puzzle, amongst the rubble
But my translation needs some refinement
I need to decipher these alien symbols
Find me a primer, I ain't multilingual
To a gas dweller this'll be simple

Deep in the fog of jupiter, I was dubious
Can these mystics transcribe into English?
But their help came with a warning
Performing these actions can't be reversed
With repercussions unknown or worse
The first person to try never came back
Did they die o r just lose contact?
But I've come so far, it's too late to turn back

1. Make a space ship with platinum tools
2. fill your tanks with plutonium fuel
3. Fly at 88 light years per hour
4. Directly into a neutron star

Beyond the realms of our worldly existence
I am no longer what I once was
There is no I, only we.
While the constraints of time and space have evaporated
this new truth that was a precursor to time itself has revealed the infinite hope that is our very essence

Shadow

First time I saw you, well, you know you caught my eye
And to this very day I still wonder why
Second time that we would meet I saw you flash a smile
Couldn't help but think about you for a long, long while

I know you'll break my heart
First you're gonna leave me then you'll let me fall apart
I know you'll break my heart
With the last words that you say before you leave me with these scars

Third date we take it slow and then I steal a kiss
No-one else has ever made a kiss feel like this
Fourth time I kiss you and you take me to your room
You know I don't want to stop though it feels too soon

I know you'll break my heart
First you're gonna leave me then you'll let me fall apart
I know you'll break my heart
With the last words that you say before you leave me with these scars

First step you catch my eye
Then you flash a smile
Third step I steal a kiss
And then we both run wild

You wrote the handbook on the way to make me pay
On how to help me fly then take my wings away

I know you'll break my heart
First you're gonna leave me then you'll let me fall apart
I know you'll break my heart
With the last words that you say before you leave me with these scars
I know you'll break my heart
I know you'll break my heart

The Handbook (Goodbye Bandita)

You have to know in your heart that it’s the only way
This is not a time for compassion
You don’t have to justify the reason
To commit this violent action

CHORUS
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)

Take the time to get to know your victim
Learn the secrets they’re ashamed to tell
Earn their trust and they’ll believe you
Make sure you choose your weapon well

Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)

BRIDGE:
Keep it fast and clean
Where there was no scream
Leave the scene
Quietly

Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone, (Rule number one)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), don’t tell anyone, (don’t tell anyone), (Rule number one)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone (don’t tell anyone) (Rule number one)
Rule number one, don’t tell anyone (don’t tell anyone) (Rule number one)

Step one: take a deep breath and let it go
Let all the sadness outward flow
Let all the tears windward blow

Step two: find every memory that you hold
Not everyone is made of gold
Pick out the brass and let them go

Step three: wander out into the sea
Sink into the depths and be
With all the animals that swim the darkness freely

Feel the current pulling at your lungs
Cry the words you’d never sung
And grieve the end of what you once
So gladly had begun

And grieve...
And grieve...

There’s no handbook for grief
there’s no hope for relief
There’s no path for my reprieve
As I try to get by
Often I wonder why,
But the handbook doesn’t exist,
So i just try to survive

Step four: take a deep breath and feel your heart
Sputtering, spinning, stop and start
Whatever you do, don’t let it fall apart

Step five: Take a long walk to clear your head
Wipe away tears you haven’t shed
Fight against words that no one said

Step six: watch as the darkness fills your mind
Echoing comments burn you blind
And all you see is love and anger intertwined

Feel the banging in your brain
Screams so loud you go insane
And grieve the loss
Of that which once
Had caused you pain

And grieve….
And grieve…

There’s no handbook for grief
there’s no hope for relief
There’s no path for my reprieve
As I try to get by
Often I wonder why,
But the handbook doesn’t exist,
So i just try to survive

My wife and I get into fights about things like online reviews where my position is they don't matter if it doesn't work for you or if you don't like it. This, along with similar things, has lead to me consolidating my position into a phrase "life doesn't have an instruction manual". So the first half is me telling her (step by step) how to live without life's alleged instruction manual. 2nd half is me admitting I suck sometimes too and us planning out (step by step) how to reconnect and cultivate our relationship. In the end, the handbook of our lives is what we choose to make of it and we choose each other.

The Handbook - Lucky Spoon

i don't have all the answers you're looking for
don't ask me i know as much as you
life is not a journey you can read about online
knowledge's not experience so you'll just have to find
your way to go

first you take that handbook and throw it out
breathe and let it soak in what it's all about
let your feelings guide you down the path that's in your heart
and even if you're wrong you know you're further from the start
you are alive

[Chorus]
But the words I read in your eyes
and the songs sung in your smile
are the writings and the music
how I want to live my life

I know you’re not the only one who’s feeling beat
And I confess that love is a two way street
Emotion has its place but can get away from me
I need help too

So let’s choose a day to set aside and reconnect
Put away our cell phones and internet
Rest easy in the company of truth that will provide
Reflect on what’s important and re-prioritize
To simplify

[Chorus 2]
Cause the words I read in your eyes
and the songs sung in your smile
are the writings and the music how
I want to live my life

and the way we unify
reflects what is inside
and together we will choose
the handbook of our lives

glow worm
the handbook

Half-moon headlights running down the wall
As I stare into the night
Feet cold
One room over hear you breathing, but
Nobody wants to live in a lie

How can I compete,
I am not strong as him
How can I make any sense of it all?

But I am bold, I am brave, I am beautiful
I am bold, I am brave, I am beautiful
Did you forget?

Chorus:
I’ll do the dishes tonight
Then you’ll make the bed;
I can never make it right
Next you’ll walk through the kitchen and cry
And those’ll be the first three steps
Of our last fight

Rewrite every word etched into your skin
Nobody wants to be alone
How can I compete,
I am not strong as him
How can I make any sense of it all?

But I am bold, I am brave, I am beautiful
I am bold, I am brave, I am beautiful
Did you forget?

Chorus

How do you break a love?
One: don’t wait around
Two: Block out the sound
Three: ignore the memories when they come
Four: it’s time to go
It’s a five hour drive alone
Six weeks, guess you thought I’d never show...

Chorus

Moss Palace
Title: The Handbook
Challenge: Must include step by step instructions

Verse 1:
It’s late
I stare at the ceiling
The corners are peeling
Your pillow is cold
How
Much more can we stand this
It’s not as we planned it
We’re out of control

Chorus:
Will you tell me please
All of the ways
You left me no instructions
Left me in a daze
If you would write a handbook
I could read it through
Show me how to love you
So my heart won’t break in two

Verse 2:
You
So far in the distance
As if your existence
Was only a myth
I
Was hiding a secret
Indulging my weakness
And pleading the fifth

Chorus:

Instructions:
Don’t try to make it right
Just tell me with your eyes
kiss me and hold me tight
Stay the night, stay the night

Chorus:
Outro:
Eeep-opp-orp-opp-opp...that means I love you!
