I’m just going to do a prog rock cover of the Leroy Anderson orchestral pops masterpiece.

Also, is homestretch really one word? I did not know that. I’ve learned two things this Nur Ein! At my age, that’s pretty good! Old dogs, etc.

I heard it "Pass the goddamn butter," but yeah. Was thinking of using that as a lyrical hook, but I'm talking myself out of the idea.

Is this the most titles in a single Nur Ein featuring the beautiful and very singable "ch" sound?

- Chupacabra
- Carte Blanche
- North Beach Vampires
- Homestretch

(Just to make sure it's clear, I'm not dissing the judges here. Thanks again for all your hard work! I'm sure this was just a totally random coincidental thing. I just happened to notice it and thought it was unusual.)

Okay Judges.
Whomever had glennny on Wednesday wins the pool.

Here we go....

Let's talk about Polymeter vs. Polyrhythm

The challenge is clearly written as "Polyrhythm"
However the first example is "Touch and Go" by the Cars. I would call that an example of Polymeter.

So is poly-meter acceptable for challenge fulfillment?

This guy explains it pretty well:

We considered whether we should go back and proactively clarify “polyrhythm or polymeter” or if it was clear enough as is. I said yesterday I thought we didn’t need to and the examples should be fine:

....and here we are :)

So yes. Polymeter is fine too!

Yes, speaking for myself (and I think most of the judges in this case, if not all), I think we prefer to be more inclusive of multiple rhythmic concepts than exclusive, if that will get more interesting songs. So I would say polyrhythms, polymeters, cross-rhythms, have at it.

I now have "I'm A Barbie Girl In A Barbie World" stuck in my head as a mnemonic for 7:4 polyrhythm so anything that will get it out is good with me.

Haha. Well, I hadn't listened to the examples yet. However, I do have proof that I said to Mike at 12:01pm that I expected most people would interpret this as polymeter rather than polyrhythm. And at 12:29pm, I said "I was considering asking them to clarify but I figured I'd listen to the examples first." Maybe you can get a couple of bucks back. I also said at 12:09pm "Yeah, this is a pretty pedantic challenge. I'm sure it came from Mo." :D

I think you guys should hold a betting pool about which challenges came from which judges, I'm super curious now to know what you think.

I'm also curious to know what you all think are good challenges, because I have a theory about this. Possibly for a different thread though.

I think the challenges have mostly been fine. Oftentimes, it's the combo that creates the problem. But as I said to Mike at precisely 11:49am, "Problem is just another word for opportunity, Mike!"

What I realized last year is the challenge is as good as you make it for yourself. Of course last year Glenn and I went a little overboard anyway, but that's sort of our personalities.

Upgrading my DAW when I'm further along in the contest than I've ever gotten before may prove to have been a tactical error.
