Yeah, at the end of the month whoever wants to should announce their one-time follow-up event and we'll see how it goes. Personally, I'm interested in this too, but I know how my interest/energy waxes and wanes.

I'm a novice when it comes to live streaming. I would have see how the learning curve is before I put my name in the hat.

It wouldn't be live, but one could create one long video with all the bits that are available and then upload that with a release date. Might be easier to learn than live streaming.... maybe. Live streaming novice here as well. I've done some podcasting for FAWM and 50/90 off and on over the past seven or eight years, but no video.

Yeah, on YouTube you can also schedule a "premiere" which is like a live stream except the video just gets served up from YouTube. It still doesn't allow for audience reactions or whatever but it does reduce a lot of headache -- provided you have the video ready in time to upload and be processed.

It's what I wanted to do for night 2 but, well, time pressure happened.

Yeah I would suggest the lowest lift version of this is like, once a month, 3-4 bands for max 20 min sets, shows prerecorded, host prerecorded. Bands would be scheduled in advance so everyone knows what's up and if you do promotion on socials, you can do that more focused. The Live Chat would just be the live part of it. I can help with the organizational work but I have no technical knowledge and my internet is so shitty you wouldn't want me touching anything like that anyway.

So every month someone would

1. announce "hey we're doing this, submit your set if you want in"
2. gather sets from people
3. edit them into a show
4. upload that show to YouTube with a "premiere' date/time set.
5. remind people over and over that this is happening, on SFBB, Twitter, and Facebook, maybe with corresponding Facebook events and Eventbrite or whatever fanciness you are up for.

I would add that mixing in some non-set content could help the vibe. Like the sets, could be gathered from folks. Segment ideas:
* Songfighter interview or round table - talk history, creative process, recording techniques, etc.
* Song appreciation - talk about a song you love from the archive
* Song Fight trivia
* Studio tours

Yeah using premieres makes a lot of sense for that. And there could be a running pool of content to put into the next show, and if something doesn't make it in soon enough for the edit/encode/upload/premiere, they just have to wait until the next show. And it looks like the live chat replay remains available, too, according to https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9080341?hl=en

Recorded a set this evening. Recorded audio and video separately. Audio turned out great. Video did not save. Wheeeeeeee. Going to try again tomorrow, hopefully.

This happened to me as well sort of... my video died like 12 mins into my "set" and so I had just video for like one "good" song's worth of content... so I'm turning it into a little "music video" sort of... the audio we're going to turn into a little 3 song live set EP release or something. I do like fluffy's idea for you to upload the audio and ask for people to do some recreation videos that you can piece together though...

BTW a lot of cameras will only record for 10-20 minutes, both for weird tax reasons (Japan taxes the sale of video cameras differently than photo cameras, and being able to record video past a certain length of time makes it count as a video camera) and due to thermal designs that lead to overheating. My suggestions for recording longer video:
  1. Get an actual camcorder
  2. Use OBS to record your webcam on your laptop
  3. Use your phone, connected to a power brick or charger (making sure you have enough free space on the device first)
I took the camcorder route (aside from some overhead footage which I recorded through my existing streaming setup). The Panasonic HC-V180 is surprisingly good and also fairly inexpensive as far as full-HD camcorders go. It also provides a clean HDMI output so it's useful with video capture devices on computers and looks way better than a typical webcam.

Thanks fluffy, I'm definitely going to be looking into getting a dedicated video camera since I'd like to do more of this kind of stuff. I'll check out the specific one you suggested.

I ended up re-recording each song separately and I'm going to edit them together with some interstitial stuff.

Uploaded another short song, and an "inspiration behind the song" .txt file. Use it or not.

I'm about half-way through watching last Saturday. Loving it. The Jerkatorium video was so crazy, with Bread and Puppets, that I abandoned my "Sitting in the Life Boat" idea... Listening to Owl now. :)

I have a short three-song set uploading now. Hope that's still OK to get into night 3!

Used this free / cheap video editing software which seems pretty well equipped, just mentioning here in case that's useful to anyone.

I just downloaded that this past week after a mention on the discord channel. I haven't installed it yet. I haven't been off work long enough to do much except skirmish a couple of songs for 50/90 to try to hit 50. I have another idea for a song video but it takes so much time to edit. Maybe this will make it go faster.

Does the Panasonic HC-V180 have an input for an external mic [I see it has an input labelled AV, but I'm not sure if that the same]? I can't tell from the photos on line. The price is definitely right.

Unfortunately it doesn't have an external mic input. I just record simultaneously with a different audio recording setup and then synchronize them after-the-fact and hope they don't have too much clock drift.

Thanks for the info. I'm probably leaning toward a Canon. I just wish their cameras still had cold shoes so you could attach a light or microphone. Maybe I can get a bracket or something.
