Hmm, I do like this optional challenge.

I reckon I'll be in with a solo entry for this one, but for once in my life I'll be ignoring the "optional" challenge, because heavy metal is mostly not for me.

Maybe I'll bang around some of the copper and lead in my studio instead.

Which gives me an idea.

Damn you, "optional challenge", for making me think. Which is your purpose, at the end of the day.

Got a bit carried away and have already written and recorded something for this! My best stab at metal. May use some of the remaining week (!) to attempt to fix some of my sloppy timing, these hands were not built to rock.

So how many people are going to be playing the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers riff in their song?

I won't say it hasn't crossed my mind already.

Edit: I'm also all about this optional challenge. Both brothers Baker will take any excuse to make it heavy!

EDITx2: Power Rangers reference will be present and aggressive.

Brand new to songfight but I just wrote and recorded a very rough version of my song for this week! Going for kinda 'hiss golden messenger' vibes. I'm always much happier with my songwriting skills than my production skills though, in part because i can't really play instruments except a little piano so i usually have to play garageband instruments on a keyboard. Anyway, excited to polish and submit.

Yesssss to this optional challenge! I look forward to hearing everyone's take on metal! Unfortunately the title doesn't speak to me. We'll see if I can come up with something lyrically this week.

I don't know about y'all but I have some drop A riffs already. I can't really do as much screaming cause of the baby's sleep schedule but that doesn't mean I can't riff it up. :)

I'm doing RPM this month with my band but will be happy to supply bass for an instant band. I do own a five string and baritone guitar for that metal oomph.

I will never understand why 5 strings and 7 strings aren't the default.

More strings = better.
The music is written and power rangers is sufficiently referenced. Now I just have to figure out what the hell "The White Morph" is about...

This title is leading to some silly lyrics, at least from me.

Yeah, I'll be interested to see everyone's take on the title this week. Googling this phrase just comes up with a random hostel in New Zealand, which I guess could be the subject of a fun ballad.

I love metal - always would that my guitar chops were better so I could really do all that I want, but I've got all my takes down. Trying to learn some mixing tips for heavy vocals. Gave myself several days for mixing, lack of time for the mix being my main foible on the last couple of fights. Yeah, lyric-wise I'm 13 again listening to thrash and writing edgy poetry.

Mine's turning into a curious mix of sludge with a lot of shoegaze elements thrown into it. Though all of the melodies in my head sound more post-hardcore to me. Strict genre is overrated anyway. Lyrically it's half done and an ode to the eastern destroying angel: Amanita bisporigera, which is known for its white morphology. And being deadly af, which is pretty metal, right? As for my guitar chops: my palm muting is pretty solid and my tremolo work is pretty good, but I didn't even bother with a guitar solo cause it just...wouldn't sound good.

You describe a sublime sound and I'm hyped now. We also landed firmly in post-hardcore. It's still heavy and I think that's what matters.

I just finished some very edgy lyrics about the White Ranger and his plight through the first few seasons. This song's gonna slap.

The bari is the heaviest hunk of metal I have, so I'm gonna try to do something Morphine-inspired. No promises, but should be fun to try.
Night Sky is Sally on lyrics, Steve on drums, and Matt on the other stuff

I'm in with a song loosely about this Morph, from a kids program. The white one is amoral. I couldn't be further from Heavy Metal if I tried.
