All time top ten songs

Post by Andy Balham »

I've often referred to songs as being in my all time top ten, but only this evening have I tried to actually assemble such a thing. Here they are in no particular order and will be subject to editing as I think it through a little more:

Holiday In Cambodia - The Dead Kennedys
Jolene - Dolly Parton
Lola - The Kinks
Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
History - The Verve
Search And Destroy - The Stooges
Garageland - The Clash
Heaven - Talking Heads
The Seeker - The Who
This Is A Low - Blur

It would appear I'm not such a cheery chap at heart :)

That's top, I would never had guessed. I should mention that, as when making compilations or playing DJ for people, you shouldn't have more than one song per artiste. :)

i agree! i go so far as to exclude anything from a side project or solo project if it comes up. "sorry, john fogerty. i cannot include any of your solo material on this mix. i already put 'fortunate son' on there for five or six consecutive tracks."

Yup. It's tough, but fair. I look forward to being pointed towards some real gems.

Umm. Andy, it seems youre not being entirely honest here. Where's "The Gambler" and "Livin' On A Prayer".

Simply Red has an awesome cover of that song. Until recently, I thought it was a Simply Red song.

I maintain the best song ever written & recorded is Take The Long Way Home by Supertramp.

Please. Please. Do not mention that version. That said I got to love Gimme Shelter and Ziggy Stardust though covers (The Sisters Of Mercy and Bauhaus respectively - forgive me I was/am a Goth).

Kenny G - By The Time This Night Is Over (Remix)

("Going Underground" by The Jam)
.

Doube overlap! Almost triple - but "Going Underground" probably not quite in the top 10 - just hovering outside.

To complete my Top 10:

Hey Ya - Outkast
Lust For Life - Iggy Pop
Friday On My Mind - The Easybeats
Disorder - Joy Division
Part Company - The Go-Betweens
Aloha Steve and Dano - Radio Birdman
Fall On Me - REM
So Long - Fischer Z
Cross-eyed & Painless - Talking Heads
Man Overboard - Do-Re-Mi

...that makes 12...oh well...

EDIT
------------------

Just read list by JoS - "Witchita Lineman" by Glen Campbell - absolutely - I'll make mine a Top 13 and add that one.

...and Weasel Slayer - "Leave Me Alone" by New Order - wow - haven't heard, or thought of that for years - part of the soundtrack of my tortured teenage years! That's the song that prompted me to go to a pawn shop and buy a bass just so I could learn how to play it and start a band!
