Re: Free samples and loops
I downloaded Decent Sampler (free!) on the weekend, and there are a shitload of cool free instruments at https://www.pianobook.co.uk/
Decent Sampler is here: https://www.decentsamples.com/product/d ... er-plugin/
It was made by David Hilowitz, who has this excellent YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/c/DavidHilowitzMusic

Re: Free samples and loops
Nice, I was just looking at Decent Sampler. I had clicked the download link then it prompted me to provide my email and I balked for a bit, and forgot about it, haha. I was looking at YouTube videos of people using the Arturia MicroFreak synth and a guy had a video showing some Decent Sampler patches he made with that synth and a cheap multi-effects pedal. The one from the one video I watched sounded good, it's a synth pad:

Re: Free samples and loops
Ha! I’ve been subscribed to David on YouTube for like, eight months, and only just downloaded it because I finally realised it was free. I originally followed him because YouTube recommended me his “how I record violin” video and it was really good.Lunkhead wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 2:27 pmNice, I was just looking at Decent Sampler. Re: Free samples and loops
Hi guys,
I've been looking to add more synth to some of my stuff and I have saved some money in case it will be expensive to get a good comprehensive set of VST sounds. If you know of free stuff that doesn't expire (as far as you know) I'd be really interested to know about that too.
Hope someone can help.

I like IKMultimedia stuff — both paid/full versions and their free stuff. SampleTank free comes with a lot and doesn't expire or anything.
Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.

Re: Free samples and loops
The Arturia V Collection is an amazingly wide and deep set of emulations of classic vintage synths as well as piano/organ/Rhodes/Wurli/farfisa/clavinet/etc. etc. It's normally $599 but if you can catch it on sale at a steep discount (I paid $249 during a sale back in December 2018) you get SO much stuff and it all sounds great and has great presets and a million options for customization.

EDIT: I guess they offer steep discounts on the collection in the period right before they release a new version. For example I got an email from them a while back saying they were selling v8 for $99, shortly before they release v9. (I'm not sure when they're going to release another version though.)

Free synth things worth checking out:
Crystal: https://www.greenoak.com/crystal/dnld2.html (a decent bit of experience with synth concepts will help a lot, but it also has a few hundred presets)
Vital: https://vital.audio/
If you like messing with a virtual rack and cables, Voltage Modular has a free edition: https://cherryaudio.com/products/voltag ... comparison
One of the most powerful not-free-but-cheap (often around $60 in sales, sometimes through resellers like Plugin Boutique) synth plugins is SynthMaster 2: https://www.kv331audio.com/synthmaster.aspx
