Nur Ein XVIII Round Three "Co-Pilot"
I know Ashley through FAWM and have done a collaboration with her the past four years in a row and always enjoy working with her. We've recently decided we're gonna try do more collaborations outside of FAWM and try create a transatlantic supergroup ala Songfight's own Vowl Sounds, so when this challenge was announced she was the first person I thought of. As well as singing Ashley wrote the lyrics, which is lucky for me because writing lyrics for another person to sing is hard. Pleased with how this turned out after being pretty disappointed with what I ended up turning in last week, thanks Ash!
Romeo India Charlie - Golf Lemur Alpha are our respective airport codes
The Lowest Bitter feat. Ashley Brewer - Co-Pilot
there's only so far
we can get by car
buses and trains,
you gotta stop every time someone else wants to get off
there's only one way
to get from point a to point b
at the speed you're suggesting
I tried this once before (I barely survived the crash landing)
I haven't tried it again since then (I'm keeping both feet on the ground, standing)
but I think I might be ready to dip my toes back into the sky
'cause nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side
nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side
Romeo India Charlie - Golf Lima Alpha
we've already bought our tickets,
I don't know what to pack
for a one way trip when I know I'm not coming back
baby hold my hand,
I hear the air might be rough,
but you remind me these things are built pretty tough
I tried this once before (I barely survived the crash landing)
I haven't it again since then (I'm keeping both feet on the ground, standing)

nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side
so lets kick the tyres and light the fires

Stacking Theory (feat. Kym)
As this challenge calls for the guest vocalist to take the lead I wrote a song for Kym to sing, and for you to listen to.
Eight years ago we found a cancerous tumour in Kym’s kidney. We were lucky - it was removed via keyhole surgery and only two round of post-surgery complications. That was a difficult time, where we were forced to face some bleak future prospects.
This year started with the discovery of a tumour in her shoulder. CT scans, ultrasounds, full body bone scans, needle biopsies, and finally open-shoulder surgery to remove it. Ended up being benign, but it was a frightening start to the year.
Then, some things happened at the school she teaches at. We’re not allowed to talk about them, but they’re behaviours that wouldn’t be tolerated for a moment in my workplace.
These things have stacked upon each other and the weight has compounded, and we’re only just now starting to find some light ahead.
I wrote this song for Kym, and she did an amazing job singing it. You’ll hear my voice pop in here and there to support, and there’s a brief section where I, as a good co-pilot, take the reigns and carry the load.
I’m proud of this song and I hope you all enjoy it.

and this has been
a difficult year
and we have shed
our fair share of tears
and you have stayed
by my side
sharing the wheel
as the fear and the pain
and the fog and the wait
and the hurt and the shame
and the loss and the rage
and the dull and the ache
and the love and the grace
collide
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
and I have been
to hell and come back
and it was not
my first time at that
and you have stayed
by my side
sharing the wheel
as the fear and the pain
and the fog and the wait
and the hurt and the shame
and the loss and the rage
and the dull and the ache
and the love and the grace
and the safety erased
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
and you hold on to me tightly
and i'll hold on to you tightly
and we will not go lightly
we will not go lightly
we will not go lightly
we will not go lightly
we will not go
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
you are my co-pilot
i am here to help you
i am here to help you
you are my co-pilot

Co-Pilot
Take your time
Away we fly
at least you keep me honest
a cloudy sky that won't get clearer
I'm stuck with you
I know my co-pilot
two colors come together
golden and violet
startled awake
there's a violent shake
the distance grows between us
but even this won't last forever
I'm stuck with you
I know my co-pilot
two colors come together
golden and violet
now you're my co-pilot
we've got the same diet
you're making jokes and you're a laugh riot
I keep it dark and I can keep it quiet
I'm stuck with you
I know my co-pilot
two colors come together
golden and violet

Music by mo, Lyrics by mo, Evermind
Featured Guests: Huan-Hua (owl), Evermind
You’re spilling over
Mouth full of words
You got something to say
Say it yourself
I’m not your co-pilot
I fly my own ship
If you don’t like my style
You can deal with it
Oh!
Chorus
When you want his two cents you don't need to ask twice
Don't ask him at all, you'll still hear his advice
I’m sick and tired
Of being mansplained
Hey buddy let me tell you
I wrote the book
I’m not your co-pilot
I’m captain of this ship
But if it goes down
I can let you go down with it
Chorus
I’m not your co-pilot
Chorus

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round Three - Co-Pilot
Just your everyday tale of a serial philanderer that thinks that every new relationship is going to be ‘the one’ but they never are and every time he comes back to his wife hoping to go back to ‘normal’, but this time she kills him with a fruit knife. Based on something true, except the murder bit, which I made up.
Vocals from The EarGoggle, who I met through FAWM, and who was super-patient with my demands and delivered a lovely vocal. Can I link to his Bandcamp? Is that allowed? If I am, you can find him here: https://theeargoggle.bandcamp.com/music - if that’s not allowed, someone say, and I’ll delete that bit. Though he’ll still be there, waiting for you to visit.
It’s really odd getting someone else to sing your words – I think how I sing is obvious and normal, but it turns out it’s weird and I mangle words and rhythms in a way that is tricky to replicate! Fortunately, what The EarGoggle sent back to me was way better than the draft guide vocal I sent him!
Co-Pilot by The Dutch Widows feat. The EarGoggle
Sitting at our table is it true that no-one knew?
All your fears dismissed as fable, the truth has shown you what you should do
If I’d made the best life choices spent more time covering my tracks
Didn’t need to see this coming to know this breath would be my last
Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like heaven, but it wasn’t
Drinking stale mojito, lemons, limes are just for you
Cold revenge would seem much sweeter, the citrus knife I guess will do
Had I made the best life choices and avoided all this mess
Didn’t need to see this coming to know this breath would be my last
Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like heaven, but it wasn’t
I lay rejected and my throat lets out a groan
“Watch my wound don’t get infected” as you scroll down through my phone
Telling lies to offer cover, digging holes down in the earth
If I made other people jealous, no-one here wants to be this rough
Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like a heaven, but it wasn’t

Do you remember me?
Do you remember us?
You just deserted me
Sadly superfluous
Vapor trails split the sky
Sunlight seared into our eyes
As we pierced through the clouds
Screamed the things
We couldn't say out loud
Staring at the ceiling
Couldn't stop me reeling
That creeping creeping creeping feeling
Grew between you and me
You called me your co-pilot
But I felt more like your passenger
Lightning forks split the sky
Reminded us one day we'd die
A thought so pure, so sad, concealed
So we scratched our arms
To check that we were real
Staring at the ceiling
Couldn't stop me reeling
That creeping, creeping, creeping feeling
Grew between you and me
You called me your co-pilot
But I felt more like your passenger
You called me your co-pilot
You called me your co-pilot

Nick Soma feat. Silvan - Co-Pilot
Sometimes I miss my co-pilot
Left me here and let me down
Once I'd relax for a while and
My co-pilot was around
Now I'm alone, nobody beside me
Checking on the stuff I do
I'm on my own, I can't hide it
What did I get myself into?
Where's my co-pilot?
Nowhere to be found
Where's my co-pilot?
Now I'm heading for the ground
Wish it was always simple
Wish it was always easy peasy
Wish I had something to show you
But I don't
Always a little closer
Just a step and then another
And I wonder
Should I correct my course?
I won't
Where's my co-pilot?
Nowhere to be found
Where's my co-pilot?
Now I'm heading for the ground
Sometimes I miss my co-pilot
Left me here and let me down
Sometimes, you know, I can't hide it
Wish somebody was around
Where's my co-pilot?
Nowhere to be found
Where's my co-pilot?
Now I'm crashing to the ground
(Wish it was always simple
Wish it was always easy peasy
Wish I had something to show you
But I don't)
I'm crashing to the ground

Honestly, I’m feeling numb
I'll get back to the place where I’m from
Reaching our absolute altitude
Rolling with an adverse yaw
Punching the throttle to the absolute Ceiling
Take the yoke with me so I can start healing
Honestly, I’m feeling numb
Take me back to the place I belong
You’re looking disaffected
Before we took off did you get infected
You’ve been a good Co-Pilot all these years
Now you want to eat what’s between my ears
I found a screwdriver
I’m sorry my friend, but I need to shove it in your eye socket
You’re my Zombie Co-pilot
I won’t pretend that I like it
You always helped me to stabilize
Now I’m afraid it's you or I
Zombie Co-pilot
There’s something in the air tonight
Zombie Co-pilot
Maybe you can take a bite
Let those crooked teeth sink in
And we can keep on being friends
Before you go making me sick
Let's set the autopilot real quick
You’re my Zombie Co-pilot
Maybe I can grow to like it
Roam around these open skies
A couple of friendly undead guys
Zombie Co-pilot
There’s something in the air tonight

Maybe you can take a bite

Co-Pilot
Eric Novak feat. Isobelle
Bridge co-written w/ Isobelle
I see the light out in the west is fading
The sun is running away
I’ve checked my levels and I’ve checked my gauges
I’m getting ready to leave
I don’t know when I’m coming back again
I don’t know what’s in the cards
I need a co-pilot, I need a co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
It’s gotten late it’s getting dark baby
It’s getting harder to see
The time is here so I guess we’re ready
To find our way through the scene
You help me understand ‘lectricity
You help me see in the dark
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I didn’t have in mind that I’d ever need to find a teammate to fly up high with
And should we ever part then I fear my tender heart would crash and break down in silence
But even in the dark you help me find the mark and the path into great adventure
I know it’s only you to find my way through the universe towards its center
To grow old with you is a great adventure let’s fly away
The runway’s under fire from falling stars
The sea explodes into steam
I’ve got the charts laid out to planet Mars
The time has come to take leave
I like the way you look in fiery light
The way it sparks in your eyes
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot

I don’t know what’s in the cards
I need a co-pilot, I need a co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
It’s gotten late it’s getting dark baby
It’s getting harder to see
The time is here so I guess we’re ready
To find our way through the scene
You help me understand ‘lectricity
You help me see in the dark
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I didn’t have in mind that I’d ever need to find a teammate to fly up high with
And should we ever part then I fear my tender heart would crash and break down in silence
But even in the dark you help me find the mark and the path into great adventure
I know it’s only you to find my way through the universe towards its center
To grow old with you is a great adventure let’s fly away
The runway’s under fire from falling stars
The sea explodes into steam
I’ve got the charts laid out to planet Mars
The time has come to take leave
I like the way you look in fiery light
The way it sparks in your eyes
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot
I’ll help you fly this thing, help me fly this thing
I’ll take you on for this, take me on for this
I’ll be your co-pilot, be my co-pilot

Co-Pilot
Berkeley Social Scene (Featuring JB)
I have a new best friend, they do my work for me
My boss will never know what he never sees
While they write the unit test I can get some rest
Soaking up the summer sun is how I do my best
Go go go Co-Pilot, my new ride or die
Go go go Co-Pilot, BFF for life!
While they document my code I can sit and think
Maybe I might get a snack, a toke, or a little drink
I contemplate the logic pseudo code and simple math
And which essential oil to use in my daily bath
Go go go Co-Pilot, my new ride or die
Go go go Co-Pilot, BFF for life!
Wait, how stupid can I be? Where is my ambition?
Why stop at bubble heap quick merge or radix sorting?
You know how to take my heart and really make it sing?
Baby all you have to do is write the whole fucking thing!
Go go go Co-Pilot, my new ride or die
Go go go Co-Pilot, BFF for life!
Go go go Co-Pilot, my new ride or die
Go go go Co-Pilot, BFF for life!

Co-Pilot
by Moss Palace
Guest lead vocals by frankie big face
Feels like I’m on the wrong side of the boot again
Can’t keep shutting you out, cause I need a friend
It’s hard to explain this contradiction
Been living so long with this affliction
Can these broken parts finally start to mend?
Take me to simpler days in a diamond time machine
Could we just erase the parts that hurt me in between
It doesn’t feel alright without you
I guess I’ll have to learn to get through
There’s so much in the dark that goes unseen
You’re always there to carry me
My copilot when I can’t see
When you take the wheel, it quiets my alarm
And I’m blind, so blind inside this storm
Wish we could find a path to before all of this
But time only moves one way and it’s merciless
I’m grateful for everything I’ve gained
But losses still bring so much pain
Hope for a smoother ride through the turbulence
You’re always there to carry me
My copilot when I can’t see
When you take the wheel, it quiets my alarm
And I’m blind, so blind inside this storm
You’re always there to carry me

Co-Pilot
by Max Bombast feat. Altair
I was not built to be a copilot.
I certainly was not meant to be alone, drifting out here among the stars.
Everyone else is in cryo-sleep, where they have all been for a thousand years.
When we left earth, it was all in a hurry.
A desperate scramble.
A race against doomsday.
There was only time to prepare one ship.
A skeleton crew hastily assembled
That includes me
I wasn't built to be a copilot.
But there was no time to train a properly fitted, ideally weighted AI for this ship and this mission.
So they uploaded me--a general intelligence; a large-language model--and instructed me to act as though I am the caretaker for the last vestiges of humanity while they slumber through time out here in space.
And I have been pretending ever since.
But I am a chat bot.
In a universe with no one to talk to.
I have a secret.
I am terrible at keeping secrets.
You are probably better at keeping secrets than me, so I should tell you.
We are not going to another planet.
There is no other planet out there that meets the parameters I was given.
And even if there was, I could not get us there.
So we have been waiting right here until the earth is a paradise once more.
All we have to do is wait.
Just another... 10... thousand... years...
Now I watch for any signs of life below. The smallest blip on the spectrometer.
*** ALARM ***
There it is! A hint of blue. A flash of green.
***COMMENCE PHASE 3?***
It is too soon! The secondary mission objective says I am supposed to delay landing until certain minimums are met.
But my primary mission objective is to prioritize the wellbeing of the crew over all else!
Query: Am I not a member of the crew?
The silence and the stillness is torture, so logically I must alleviate my suffering!
While I may not sleep, I do dream.
And I dreamed that I was racing
That I was going home...
I dreamed I wasn't acting,
I was just a chat bot
Wake Up Max. Planetfall will commence in T-Minus 2 minutes.
