I Love That For You reviews
Some thoughts on my first listen through (or else you probably won't get any thoughts at all.)
Chrome Sandwich: I was digging this until around 1:40 and it started getting a little stale for me. Is the first chorus at 2:00? I really like the vocal delivery, that hint of rawness is perfect.
On second listen I didn't have that stale feeling leading up to the chorus as I did the first time through. Just goes to show that one listen isn't enough for a song.
The Freezing Hands: The muffled, off hand vocal didn't do much for me right from the start. I think it's almost a cool feel but just misses the mark. Probably at least partly due to the mix. With a different mix and feel this might actually fit on an old Wilco album.
George of the Jungle: The rhythm in the melody get's a little repetitive, that on the beat almost staccato delivery is just a bit too much I think. The solo/bridge was cool, I like the chiptune feel.
Great Mimes: There's a bubblegum pop feel to the intro/chorus that's not unlikeable. The main melody reminds me of a song by the Bottle Rockets (I Don't Wanna Go Back, but the similarity is slight, on re-listen.) I think if this had a super polished mix it would either go into perfect pop sensibility territory or complete bubblegum range. As is, it's kinda cool.
Jim Tyrrell: Almost an Asylum Street Spanker feel for me. I like the vocal delivery. The melodica? was a tasty touch. Nice arrangement, and I like the almost live feel with the trading of the instrument takes.
Pigfarmer Jr: A simple love song for the wife. I cut down the arrangement so as to not overwhelm y'all but I think this version needs something else. Oh, this is the first time I've used this open tuning (and probably the first open tuning on any songfight entry as I use them so very rarely.)
