Aw, man. Beck was one of the all time greats. Forget all those deedle-weedlers, nobody played like him. Listen, and watch, him play. You just can't do what he did. Not a big hit maker, didn't matter. 78 aint no kid, but a shocker. R.I.P.
Yeah, lived a good life. He was definitely the guitarist's guitarist. We stand on the shoulders...

Indeed — that was a big one. I saw the Specials when they rolled through Toronto in May 2019.

Much appreciated. His health hadn't been particularly good in recent years (weird non-viral lung inflammation that started last summer left him on an oxygen tank and he'd been having trouble keeping weight on) but he was still keeping pretty active and had a calendar full of fishing trips planned. Was very abrupt. But at least he went painlessly in his sleep and that he was having a good time in his last few days!

It was bitter sweet to log in today to see what the next song due date was and The Seamus Collective's win for "Morning on Bourbon" in the 15 years ago tab. I was part of that collective, and did not know Wayne as well as Ken and the rest, but he was incomparable in spreading joy through music with those he collaborated with. A generous human and musician from my experience. If I remember correctly, for "Morning on Bourbon" several members contributed lyrics and it was my responsibility to stitch them into some sort of cohesive whole, then Wayne was the musical architect of the song. He was one of the best musicians and guitarists I have had the pleasure to know personally, but one example of his collaborative spirit is that , when he sent the demo out, in the instrumental he says, "Then Ross plays some sort of weird ass solo." I can only imagine the vacuum left for his middle school students if he was bringing that same spirit to his classroom, which I assume he was. miss you, Wayne...

Hi All,

It pains me to let you know that my good friend, collaborator, and all around best person Wayne "Evil-E" Gamble died suddenly and unexpectedly from a stroke the week before Xmas. Wayne mostly submitted on his own as Evil-E and as part of the Seamus Collective. I don't know what to say besides those of us who were close to him are devastated, and even more so, his wife Stacy. While this is certainly a loss to the Songfight community, Wayne touched many lives as a friend, band mate, and music teacher.

There is a Go Fund Me set up here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/wayne-gamble

Gordon Lightfoot

I was never a huge fan, to be honest, but he was one of those singer songwriters that my mother listened to when I was young. The PRF Tribute Series published their album from last December. Here's my harder rocking version of "Sundown"

A slightly difficult one. He will burn in hell as a convicted pedophile. But - he was my favourite entertainer as a child. Caravan Ray was certainly inspired by him.

The late. Arguably great. But certainly disgraced Rolf Harris

Jimmy Buffett. Already eulogized him on the spintunes discord but ugh this one hurts. Jimmy was my dad's FAVORITE. We had a rule that I was the only one allowed to buy him a Jimmy Buffett album when it came out so he wouldn't get duplicate copies. Every single road trip I had with him Jimmy was played at least once (King Crimson too, I'll probably weep for Fripp just as much). I was obsessed with his book "The Jolly Mon" when I was like 5 or 6 and my kids love it too. Maybe this is more of a grief bomb for personal reasons but yeah it's hard not to cry about this one. RIP you cheeseburger man.

So long Bob Heil. You created so many things musicians will forever benefit from. You were a very nice guy and I appreciated you telling me stories about the 60s when I asked.

Steve Kille, bassist and co-songwriter for Dead Meadow has died.

A friend of his on /r/psychedelicrock says it was a rare form of stomach cancer. I dunno if anyone else here was a fan, but my user name is the title of one of their signature songs. And still one of the greatest riffs I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, which was written by our dearly departed.
