His movies never really clicked with me, but he seemed like a true artist and a really unique awesome weirdo. The world's definitely less interesting without him. :(

I got to meet him back in 2006 or 2007. Pretty sweet genuine guy in person. Also I loved how matter-of-fact the trans representation was in Twin Peaks, back in an era when trans people in media were almost always just a cruel joke.

I am sad to report that Michael Casper Lewis, aka Irwin, aka Suckweasel, died on Wednesday, March 26th in a bicycling accident. Mike was my bandmate in The Nutwalls, Kasper, The Narcaloungers, and Die Toten Schlaghosen, and participated in many other musical endeavors here. He had been my friend since 1994, and was the one who introduced me to Songfight. We wrote (but did not submit) Dog Without Warning for that fight, on a cold night in late December after a considerable number of beers, which we would ultimately debut at Songfight Live 2009. Playing that live show was the culmination of Mike's lifelong dream to play his own music on stage, and he always felt that night at the Empyrean Coffee House in Spokane was one of his favorite experiences, thanks to the welcoming camaraderie of the Songfight family.

Mike had many challenges in his personal life which unfortunately and ultimately led to our estrangement, but he found solace in the Songfight community. He was passionate about music, and always felt that he had a home here. He wrote the lyrics to Kasper's "Paper Thin" from his heart about his struggles.

Rest in peace, Mike, you're finally free.

Oh, fuck, I'm so sorry to hear that. Irwin was a good dude and I always enjoyed the chats we had together at various Song Fight! Lives.

May his memory forever be a blessing. He'll definitely be missed.

That's awful news, so sorry to hear that. He was always fun to see and chat with at Song Fight Lives, including just last summer in Denver. I just listened to "Paper Thin" again, what a good song.

Damn. We never met in person but he was a fixture in the (now defunct, I suppose) IRC channel, and I always appreciated his presence and input. I don't think he ever managed to make a Song Fight submission that I hated. No small feat, that. Rest in peace, I will always remember you.

Fuck! That's awful.
He was an awesome guy! We had a Daddy's and kids day at the zoo together during the Berkeley/ San Francisco Song Fight Live. He was a good hang. One of my fondest memories is jamming with him in Glenn Case's back yard during the Spokane SFL, I think that was with Mike Lamb and Jon Eric too.
He was a good player and a good songwriter. I enjoyed all of his sets. Being a videographer for every SFL I've been to, I enjoyed many of his sets.

One of my favorite drummers, Clem Burke from Blondie (and many other bands), passed away at the age of 70 from cancer.

I have just been informed that Dennis of sonofsupercar has passed away.

Dennis's good friend reached out via Instagram, and he's attempting to create an account here.

I'm shocked.

Yeah, more terribly sad news. It's really shocking because he just emailed a few weeks ago about his latest band Kindly Swears' new album and video. I think the same person emailed the fightmaster about it yesterday but I was out of town till this evening and wasn't checking that inbox. I have activated their account and let them know about that in case they want to post here.

Dennis was great, wish I'd gotten to jam with him and know him more back in the '00s in the heyday of the Bay Area Song Fight scene.

The person who emailed the fm email said they'd answer questions but I thought I would give them another little bit of time before asking. They just said it happened last Friday and was sudden and unexpected. I'll wait to share more of what they said in case they want to post here themselves.
