Yeah. Mine came too and I had to open it immediately before my wife thought I had bought myself a guitar (it came in a box that big). It definitely is SUPER tight and wants to snap back straight... I finally figured out where it's going to go and finally got it into a position that doesn't feel like it's going to "snap back" on me. I think once I connect my Mic to it, it'll work just fine, but it was definitely not what I was expecting it to be straight (ha) out of the box. I'm bringing the Mic home tonight that I plan on connecting there, so I'll check back too.

I still haven't gotten around to setting up my boom mic stand but now I'm wondering if I what I really could use is actually today's stupid deal, a desktop boom mic stand (not a clip on one, but one with a base, and not a spring-y boom arm, just a regular boom mic stand).

I think that's the one I use. It's not perfect but it's what I use the most. There are two used local on FB marketplace. I thought about grabbing just to have. It's nice to make little adjustments to mic'ing cabs etc.,... but honestly, when will I ever have to do that on the regular? I've seen them on stupid a few times this past year.

Springy clip-on stands can be really good. I have one that's similar to https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=602506 (only for a USB mic) and it's great for what I use it for. That's the style I was hoping for with the previously-discussed stand.

So, update on my clip on boom arm, it's working better than expected for me... I still haven't used it to actually record with sitting down, but the positioning and rotation etc... is in a really great spot for me. I really like the little "cable channel", and the "spring" in the hinges is actually good in that the weight of the mic won't "push" it down, yet won't let it spring back up. Going to try using it for vocals on the next track I do with vocals.

I'm trying to set it up now. I have the clamp and the arm set up. But I'm unclear what all the other parts are that came with it...? I'm going to watch some YouTube videos to try to figure it out. It feels really solid and hefty though. The middle joint is a bit tough to loosen.

The other parts, one is an "extension" piece for the mic screw... the longer skinny piece, I assume if you had like a pop filter or something else you wanted to screw onto it, and the other bit is a "holder" for the boom arm instead of the "clamp", if you had other hardware (that wasn't a flat table/shelf to clamp to).

I don't know anything about it but IK Pro Sound has a huge bundle of instruments etc., for 30 bucks currently. Very limited time (hours) but I think it'll only jump to 50 bucks. A friend has some of their stuff and says it's good.

As someone that owns pretty much everything IK has put out... I'd skip that one, you're way better off getting the $49-99 "MAX" Bundles they have on their own site during Sale Times (Memorial Day/Black Friday/Etc...) as it'll include "everything", I didn't look too much into that Humble Bundle and what it offers, but it looks like it offers the basic Sampletank & Syntronik stuff... that you'd be shelling out for more stuff afterwards for more money than you could just buy "everything" for during a sale. i.e. yes, $30 seems cheap until you realize it's just a sunk cost once you go any further.

Yeah, it looked promising until I looked at exactly what was included and, out of that, what I would actually use.

I got a huge bundle of IK Multimedia stuff through Humble Bundle a little while ago, but I didn't realise until after I bought it that it would necessitate a whole new SSD for me to be able to install everything. Still, I did get the new SSD and it was completely worth it. I got both Sampletank 4 Max and Syntronik 2 in the bundle and there's some really good sounds there. I've not even scratched the surface of all the sounds included, but two of them did make it into the song I've submitted as my first Song Fight entry.

Yes, but Sampletank 4 MAX is just one of MANY products that are included in one of the MAX (Total Studio?) Bundles... I was trying to say that it's cheaper/better to wait for the IK Sales to just get EVERYTHING at once for a one time $49-99 price than just Sampletank for $30 or whatever... since there are no real "upgrade"/"crossgrade" paths where you save money... that $30 is a sunk cost if you ever want any of the other stuff... you'll be paying that $49-99 sale price for the software that already includes it...

Ah fair enough. I feel I got my money's worth though and bearing in mind I had to get a new SSD to install it all, I probably got enough 😂

Technically IK does do crossgrade prices but I think they're usually not applicable on top of the massive discounts on Total Studio MAX, so they're kind of worthless.
