The Mellfire Trifecta
Next Exit
If you fell off the back of our truck
I’m not sure that we noticed
‘Cos we weren’t trying to transport you
Don’t get me wrong
We’re probably able to support you
It’s just not part of the plan
Which is to decommission this very model
While we’re in it
Then re-tool production in a minute
If you got lost on your pathway to knowledge
I don’t know what to tell you
‘Cos we never meant to provide it
Ooh this message rattles
Maybe something good’s inside it
Just not part of the plan
Which is now to offload as you go off road
It’s not a soft road
Yet 50 beats one, that’s how we’ll ride it
If you don’t like where you’re going
(Just take the next exit)
But no off-ramp sign is glowing
(Just take the next exit)
Ok maybe our undercoat is showing
If you like knowing that you’re safe in your bed
I’m quite sure I’ll convince you
That your bed is wherever you may lay down your head
It’s not a complicated issue
So go back to sleep
And dream a good dream
Sometimes a bumpy road can take you home again
I’m sure someone’s waiting there to kiss you
If you don’t like where you’re going
(Just take the next exit)
But no off-ramp sign is glowing
(Just take the next exit)
Ok maybe our undercoat is showing

The next exit’s closed
So where am I supposed to go?
You were waiting on the 95
With a cig in your hand and fire in your eyes
And I never showed
You were looking out below
While I was clutching a rosary
You were certain you were dead to me
The next exit’s off at highway one
And I swore I’d never return
We crashed out and the engine spun
Leaving the car to burn
And I never know
How to navigate the freeway alone
While I was screaming in the dashboard’s glow
You were arguing with the radio
The next exit’s where I need to be
Because my past is impossible to perceive
I gotta move on and I gotta believe
That somewhere out there is a future for me
The next exit’s closed
So where am I supposed to go?
You were waiting on the 95
With a cig in your hand and fire in your eyes
And I never showed
You were looking out below
While I was clutching a rosary

Re: Next Exit
G - Em - Am - C-G-Em
I heard you can preach some despair if you put a little lining on it
G - Em - Am - C
It gets you more than halfway there, cause we came up hard
G - Em - F - C
How do healthy people live, with their demons out of sight?
G - B - Am (Am7)
How can they sleep at night at all?
C - G - D
Take the next exit and ditch it in the woods
This license plate’s no good nomore
C - G - Am
Our day is coming like we always said it would
F - C - G
And we never even got to say so long
G
G - Em - Am - F
Look ahead see the neck of a bottle closing closing closing up
G - Em - Am - C
Have we ever been here before, were we ever under this sun
G - Em - F - C
A century of scary monsters, a thousand years of super creeps
G - B - Am (Am7)
How did we spiral for so long
C - G - D
Take the next exit and ditch it in the woods
This license plate’s no good nomore
C - G - Am
Our day is coming just like you said it would
F - C - G
And we never even got to stay for long
G
Building G C/G then full chorus with “say so long” ending
