Anybody want to host Song Fight Live 2026?

Post by Lunkhead »

It's already March, and time keeps rolling on. Not sure where is the best place to try to get a discussion going, boards vs Slack vs Discord, but figured I'd post here and see what happens. I don't think I have the connections and resources to host here in Bend, unfortunately. And while it's a great place to visit, it's not necessarily as easy to get to as a larger city or metro area. We've had two Western US events in a row now, maybe somebody in the East or Midwest is itching to host...? Here's the thread about what it takes, for those not familiar:

I don't have the time and not much is happening in CT for outsiders... but I'm hoping someone nearby... NY/MA/RI/ME has better connections than I do... ;)

Due to my health/fatigue issues I'm unlikely to be able to attend this year but I'd still like to know what's up, maybe I can muster enough to come.

I think roymond said something in the slack about collaborating on a NYC event. (Not to throw him under the bus or anything.)

Yeah, I would be into cohosting. Once we have a venue and dates I could work on other logistics and whatnot. But I don't think I can focus on it till late May. I will ask the guy who books the open mics I play at on Mondays. He's pretty steeped in the venues around town.

Hey folks. So, I have been chatting with Ben Krieger who has been doing these festival-lite shows at a club in Brooklyn called Bar Freda. I asked him if doing a Songfight Live there sounded like a good idea and he seemed excited. More talk will need to be done. So, maybe one night at Ben's place and one at Roy's place? I'll keep looking into things....

Thanks, Niveous! Is there a reason we can't have both nights at the same venue?

I'll just say that earlier in the summer is better for me and I wouldn't be able to attend if it is late August.

At this point I’ll be in NYC mid May to mid June and the first couple weeks in July. Then the last week in August. So I may not even be able to attend never mind hosting much.

The first couple weeks of July are not necessarily an unusual time for a Song Fight Live to happen...

I’m happy to “host” the event. Just don’t have the time nor innate insights to arrange venues, equipment, hotel recommendations, that need to be done like…now…for a July show.

Aha, you mean you can MC the event, got it. I guess so far we've usually used "host" more for the work of booking venues, figuring out the equipment plan, etc etc. and then just assumed Spud would MC.

That was exactly the point I was making. I don’t have the resources to set things up before I leave the country for five weeks. Then I’m out a couple more times, four weeks at a time and late July through most of August.
