Hans has convinced me to be part of this fight (thanks man!)
I am going to do a heavy prog version of Pink Floyd's "Fearless" off of the album Meddle (if this hasn't already been called). It will be slightly different than the original. It'll be a challenge to figure out how I'm going to work in the speed solos. Add me to the LIST, guy. I'm in!

Sept 12th is the deadline? Damn that's a lot of time...if I get it done earlier, I'll post a link.

Hey wait, HipCola, what tune are you doing? Tonetripper? Don't tell me you guys bailed...

Holy shit Hans put me down for Black Sabbath Supernaut instead of Fearless. And I will MAKE it prog. The song, along with what I am going to do with it, is playing repeatedly in my head right now. There will be odd rhythms...speed solos...unless anyone objects, this is what I'd like to do. Sabbath was progressive for the era...weren't they?

from my progrock radio days, i think most prog fans don't consider them prog, but you know, make yourself happy.
if this isn't due till september, i might have enough time by then :)

Yeah I figured they probably weren't...if Supernaut's not acceptable someone definitely let me know, now that Pink Floyd's on the bill, I'm really flexible. I just got fired up about Supernaut. And Bill...YEAH!!! you've got enough time, I'd say! (I hope)

Okay, I'm sick of thinking about this. I don't know "prog" from shinola. But I know that I like a lot of the stuff that people are calling "prog". And I know every time I think of something I'd like to cover for this fight, it's very arguably not "prog".

So if anyone suggests a real, undeniably "prog" song that might yield an interesting/funny/unexpected cover by Hostess Mostess, I'll do it.

There's a whole slew of Pink Floyd tunes I think you would be great on, Mostess. I don't even know where to start....

San Tropez (Meddle)
A Pillow of Winds (Meddle)
See Emily Play (old single)
Arnold Layne (old single)

damnit, now I want to change my title entry again

oh and as well, I am so happy to see that Rog and the gang are getting along at least enough to acknowledge "The Final Cut" as a legitimate Pink Floyd album. I love that album, in a very offcenter sorta way you might say. and Check out the videos!!! these are from the early days of video! I love the Gunner's Dream.
(and I'm behind the times because it was rereleased a year ago  )

I've quit being a hard-ass. Do what you like. You know the spirit we're after here.

OMG, Boltoph suggested 'See Emily Play' which would be soooo awesome for you. That reminds me of The Dukes of the Strastosphere, which I know you know, and is rife with that proto-psychedelic sound. How 'bout '25 O'Clock"? or maybe my fave, 'Shining Cage' (I think that's what it's titled)...

Funny, Jack, 'Dust in the Wind' blew into my mind (I have NO idea why) this morning and has been lodged there all day...ugh.

Mostess, you could bring some serious earnestness to any Moody Blues, or maybe Procol Harem? 'Nights in White Satin'? or maybe 'Whiter Shade of Pale'? Bring it!!!

Whatever you want, man...no need to make up your mind until you start recording...you have so many choices...

Are they back together again? Roger just released a solo album, no? All I remember from Final Cut is GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY DESERT! Funny - takes on a different meaning these days...

Sorry, no...not sure why this popped in my head. I think I saw an article about his forthcoming album Heartland, due in 2006. I think it's supposed to be an "Opera"...perhaps another Wall-like production.
---EDIT---Oops, just found this: Roger Waters Wraps Opera
I'm not sure if this is is Heartland's final title..? No, looks like it's not. He's still working on that one. Sounds uninspired :(
From what I can find on the web, it doesn't sound like he'll ever reconcile with Gilmour.

With the deadline in September, this will work well with my schedule. Over the past couple weeks I have been listening to the albums I have on hand (some King Crimson, Yes, and ELP). If it is available, put me (The BeWells) down for "Heart of the Sunrise". That's the one I keep coming back to.

I will probably start with a straight cover and then figure out what I'd like to approach differently. This will be a great excuse to put the Ric bass to good use and also pull out the keyboards.

Great Choice! I envy your ability to do a straight cover. They used to play some acoustic-ish live version on the radio when I lived in CO in the early 90's. I don't think I've heard it since then. Sharp...Distance...

Jack called it! Floyd is reuniting for Live 8. Cashpoint, you'll have to sneak a video camera into the show for us. I think they're only performing in England.

Goddam, I'm psyched...though I wouldn't count on it lasting. Something tells me Roger is being a sport because of his politics.
