1KBWC (1000 blank white cards) is a card game where you essentially make cards, shuffle them, and then play. A good explanation of the game can be found at http://www.trouserarousal.nu/cards/history.html.
I've been running a deck of the game in Boston for the past three years (although our players have never come across the players of some supposedly infamous deck in the Harvard area), and I've finally gotten around to making the website featuring our cards.
Bob: 1KBWC in Boston
I haven't officially launched the site yet, but I would appreciate any constructive criticism anybody can offer about the layout and design. Also, if anybody is bored if eir ass and wants to help me sort the cards by tagging them with descriptions and chunking them into groupings, please let me know. I have around 940 scanned in and online right now, but the deck is nearing 2,000 cards. Thanks!

In any given game, each player is usually aiming for a different goal, so it's quite possible that every player can leave the game feeling "victorious." (Jess Prime tends to try to populate her Happy Place card, and I recall one game where I was outfitting myself in mismatched name-brand clothing pieces.) I need to look up what Great Dalmuti is, but the game does usually end whenever people no longer feel like playing. And, honestly, in most of my games, the game ends when the coffee shop we are playing in closes for the night. ^_-Tonamel wrote:I get that it's basically a playing card version of Calvinball, but is there some sort of victory condition, or is it more like the Great Dalmuti, and it's done when it's done?

wow...i'm totally blown away by this game. No one seems to do it here in Ottawa..too bad, cuz I'd love to see it in action. I figure it could either be really stupid, or really cool..depending on the participants.
I wonder how hard it would be to set up an online version of this with a little chat window thing....hmm.

Totally depends on the participants, I think. Interesting!
If you want a game that's kind of similar, but you use cards made by the manufacturer instead, I recommend Fluxx.
Crazy game. Rules keep changing. Even the way to win keeps changing.

Everybody at my school's board game club loves Fluxx. I hate it. I rank it down near Sorry and Trouble. There's just too little control in the game.HeuristicsInc wrote:Totally depends on the participants, I think. Interesting!

well, yeah, there's no control. that's kind of the point.
but you think there's control in this game? where anybody can just make a card that says anything at all, at any point? it's even worse!

From a game-playing aspect, any game is some ratio of chance to choice. Fluxx is very much chance, like Sorry and Trouble. Chutes and Ladders and War are completely chance.HeuristicsInc wrote:well, yeah, there's no control. that's kind of the point.

In 1kbwc, every player has just as much control. Even though everyone else can make a card to do anything, so can you. And most games enforce the "be creative" rule. If someone made a card that simply says, "bill is a fucktard," I'm sure most players would dismiss the card as annoying and lame.

sounds lame to me... kinda wondering what effect that would have on gameplay, though. seriously.

Not at all! In fact, I've often made cards in my spare time and just slipped them into the deck. It helps to have a few cards already made to give newcomers some idea of the gist.NeilThrun wrote:Some friends and I are going to try this sunday. Lets see how it goes. Eh it didnt happen, some really lame shit went down this weekend and none of us had time to play a game. Hopefully we will soon. The idea is very appealing to many of my friends, who dislike strategic games and realitivly suck at most card and board games. You have no idea how hard it is for me to get a good chess game going around here, either my opponent totally sucks and just wants to play cassually(which is fine, but a challange is nice) or the person is a total geek who I really dont want to spend over an hour with.Gemini6Ice wrote:Not at all!
