Acoustica: Alarm Will Sound performs Aphex Twin

Post by Tonamel »

It's an orchestra. Playing Aphex Twin.

All I know is their percussionists are beyond good. Just listen to Cock/ver 10 to hear the insanity. The snare player on 4 (which is track 7 ¬¬ ) is also amazing.

I picked this up from a local record shop (tough to find!) a few weeks ago, and I was also blown away by their rendition of Cock/ver 10, Meltphace 6, and of course 4. It's neat to read what instruments were used: for instance, the orchestra had no less than 4 people playing the curtain rod on one song.

If you're a Rich D James fan, you owe it to yourself to get this.

This sounds really awesome. Also looks like a new Boards of Canada album is out in October. Bleep is really nice.

It's technically very good, but I run into the same problem that I have with Aphex Twin: a lot of his music isn't appealling to me. I'm listening to "Cock/Ver 10" off of Drukqs now and to be blunt I wish it was more melodic. I like the stuff with the drums all right though I think DJ Shadow does it better (and he does with records, not drum synths or loops or whatever it is Aphex does).

I was listening to this Acoustica album while trying to do calculus, but that's the problem. Fingerbib and 4 and Logon-Rock Witch and Cliffs Remix are good. I guess I wish they'd relied more on Richard D. James, and Windowlicker, and 51/13 Singles Collection, and Classics, and I Care Because You Do than they did on Drukqs, which I don't like as much.
