Future of Music Policy Summit

Post by roymond »

Are any other songfighters here in DC for this? I'll do a write up over the next couple days (through Tuesday) but there are some really great discussions going on. Today's panel on new labels/no label models was very provocative. Jerry Harrison and Melissa Ferrick having differing perspectives and tempers, as did John Buckman (Magnatune). And FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, while overly drab personalitywise, brought some perspective to how the FCC works, and a larger discussion around payola leaked into the Music Policy panel.

There's supposed to be a podcast going out, but perhaps after the fact. I, of course, forgot to bring my portable recorder (#$@&!)

I would love to hear what sort of ideas are being shared on this topic. If anybody knows other places where I can research this, please let me know.

Ahhh, but you still don't know why your car died in the first place :)

Bill spontaneously drove into DC early evening, and then back to Baltimore after drinking heavily (well, Ethiopian stout is pretty heavy) without his CD player working (as far as I could tell). That's called "making the effort." Thanks for coming out!

heavily? nah, two drinks during dinner is well within my tolerance. :)
no idea what was up with my car.
and the built-in cd player was able to play the primus cd just fine all the way home, which is somewhat surprising considering how touchy it is. but i had music!

I still haven't gotten all my notes together, but you all can view/listen to most of the sessions here. Look for the audio/video links. I think the session titles and panel members will make it self-evident to you which are interesting.

Harambe in Adams Morgan is great. We went to Zed's on M in Georgetown.

I have often enjoyed both Meskarem and Fasika's in Adams Morgan. I believe both of those are pricier than Zed's...
