What's up with Walt (psychic powers)?
What's up with Locke's legs?
What's up with Kate (why was she running from the law, why was her Mom afraid of her)?
What's up with the huge monster that ate the pilot?
What's up with the polar bear?
What's up with the numbers?
What's up with Claire's baby (its destiny, etc)?
What's up with the hatch?
What's up with the pirate ship?
What's up with Jack seeing his Dad on the island?
What's up with the Others (are they Danielle's old crew)?
What was up with Ethan?

I want some answers. If they don't give me some answers, I am SO not watching it next season.
dumb theory by me................

what if the island is located near some former nuclear test site? that might help explain a few things, like why this hatch/bunker is one the island. maybe radiation/genetic mutations caused the polar bear, or the monster that ate the pilot. it's pretty clear that walt isn't the only one on the island that seems to have telepathy issues. sayid hears voices. sawyer hears voices. locke's ability to walk seems to be tied to his acceptance of the island. i wouldn't be surprised if kate's backstory had her killing some molesting stepdad or something like that. the little plane might be the key to the whole crash. the numbers seem to have been pretty much forgotten about in the storyline.

i think it's kind of funny how the last episode had all these new faces on, like the peripheral survivors finally get some notice. i have a feeling a big killing is coming and thats why all these new folks were introduced. either to be killed off next episode or replace those that will be. last weeks episode was really great. i really like the jin character and hope he doesn't die.

but someone's gonna die next week. and i'm still betting it's jack.

Not really. The numbers are engraved on the hatch (which Hurley didn't notice), which indicates that there's something Very Very Bad inside it. Walt warned Locke against opening the hatch before he even knew it existed.

My take on some of the questions:

"What's up with Walt (psychic powers)?" This island has children issues. I think that people below a certain age have some sort of magic power, which is also why the Others want Claire's baby. So they can use its magic for themselves. I'm guessing that the age limit is 16 years, because that's the age Danielle's daughter would be now, and mysteriously, another baby happens to show up on the island.

"What's up with Locke's legs?" He seems convinced that it's because the island wants him to be able to walk, and I'm willing to go with that.

"What's up with Kate (why was she running from the law, why was her Mom afraid of her)?" Well, she's running from the law because she's killed people. The first being her childhood sweetheart. Perhaps her mother (who seemed slightly deslusional) thought she had come to kill her next.

"What's up with the huge monster that ate the pilot?" Danielle says it's a security system for the island. I can believe that. The real question is "What's it guarding?"

"What's up with the polar bear?" Walt was reading a Green Lantern comic book earlier that episode in which GL was being attacked by a polar bear. It's my opinion that Walt's magic brought it to life.

"What's up with the pirate ship?" What pirate ship? Did I miss something?

"What's up with Jack seeing his Dad on the island?" I'm not too sure about this one, but it does make me think that maybe we haven't seen the last of Boone.

"What's up with the Others (are they Danielle's old crew)?" Well, Danielle said she killed her old crew after they got sick (whatever that means). Though with seeing Jack's dad, there's no telling how permanent that is. I'm still convinced that the Others are people who have been living on the island for a very long time, and don't take kindly to intruders.

"What was up with Ethan?" Undoubtedly one of the Others.

actually, kate did not directly kill her best friend. he was killed by the police in a shootout as she was trying to escape. she needed his car and he decided to go with her and when they were cornered, he was shot accidently by the cops. but some her backstory was better explained (like the bank robbery)

the pirate ship (the black rock?) just showed up last episode.

bigger questions?

why is hurley still so fat?

why hasn't charlie made a beeline to the plane filled with heroin?

Oh, that's right. Somehow, I completely forgot about that.

And I remember reading somewhere the the first season takes place over 44 days. Not enough time for Hurley to become thin...

SPOILERS.

The end of Season one and a double length special with lots of action, but NOT ENOUGH information.
Charlie gets a new stash (rather a no brainer), Baby taken and retrieved, Hurley asked about his weight, Locke explains 'faith'. Blah blah blah.
The 'Others' seem to have a motor boat, and petrol to run it. I find this odd.
I was hiding behind the couch when the 'thing' (which sounds mighty mechanical) put in it's appearance, screaming for joy when the hellishly annoying teacher got blown up, and screaming with disbelief when they fired the flare...
I'll probably watch next season, though it's all become a tad 'soapy' for my liking.

"Ethan Rom" is an anagram for "Other man".

Potshot theory #2: The Others are descendants from survivors of the Black Rock.

Potshot Theory #3: The whole question of supernatural vs. rational explanations for what's going on with the island is meant to be a sort of Rorschach test.

Well, I finally got to see some of this show. I believe it was the second episode I watched... pretty fing good. Now, I just gotta get through this season so I can be ready for next. All of your debate about it fueled my interest...and it seemed last night the stars lined up and I was able to actually able to experience this show myself...

Granted, now I wish I hadn't read any of this thread so that I could be all suprised and stuff...but knowing my shedule...I'll need the updates just to keep on top of things!!!

SEASON PREMIERE
Wednesday, Sept. 21, 9/8c
"Man of Science, Man of Faith"
In the season premiere, one of the castaways is chosen to descend into the mysterious hatch, and Shannon stumbles upon a shockingly familiar face in the jungle.

what i want to know is who the hell the guys in the boat were. and what happens to michael. and jin. and sawyer. and walt.

i'll bet we get no answers and more questions..... :x

I dug the season opener...

I guess I should write SPOILER here... whatever..

It was obvious that the man in the hatch was the man in the stadium. My theory is that the quarintine note was not to keep people out of the hatch, but rather the ISLAND was the quarantined zone, and it was labelled such to keep the island out of the hatch... if you get my drift. I missed some episodes from last year, but I'm gonna rent the first season... even still, it was possible to understand 90% of the episode.. great show. Fun watch.

yeah, i agree Leaf. the season opener was pretty good. didn't answer alot of hanging questions (although they did tease Walt a bit, all dripping wet in the jungle).

spoilers..................

i agree with Leaf that the guy in the hatch is definitely the guy running stairs with jack. they even foreshadowed that when he said "i guess i'll see you in another life". it will be interesting to see how or if he is related to "the others". also, i thought jack's backstory with the woman that had back surgery was pretty good too. it explained alot from last season in that she would later become his wife.

the thing i really liked is that the show dealt with a number of carryover issues instead of ignoring them and giving us more questions. good show!

I have been watching Lost (first series) - in an odd order, the last couple in spain, and now up to episode 6/7 in the UK - and i have to say the characterisation for some of the lesser characters is total cliche!

The English hoblit whose name escapes me - "man, rock n'roll and drugs are such a dangerous combination"

Said - "I was misguided until the love of the good woman caused me to see the error of his lifestyle. I threw everything away because I knew that she was right."

Sawyer - "I want everyone to hate because i hate myself."

Korean woman - "the man I love has been corrupted by desire to succeed on my behalf. I want to leave him but I can't because I still love the man he was."

Now, like I say, I've seen later episodes and I can see how exciting it gets, but jesus, how did it ever get to the Hatch without driving away droves of viewers?

at least there was no cliff richard cameo appearance!

Lost is many things. It's a mystery. It's good TV. It's also a soap opera. On a soap, you have to have stereotypish characters. Without that, you can't have all the melodrama.

I'm not sure that's entirely true - if the writing is strong enough, then the stereotypes become archetypes (say, 'Firefly') - but those episodes I described, one after the other, have really snapped me off my suspension disbelief / show enjoyment axis ....

The phrase that really springs to mind is Charlie to his brother-with-four-groupies - 'It was meant to be about the music, man!"

But I see yr point .. oh and I meant 'English Hobbit' - although now I wonder whether it's not a surprisingly accurate mistake :)

Random thought:
Maybe it said Quarantine on the Inside of the Hatch because it was the island that is under Quarantine, Not the inside of the Hack and tunnels.
