Still listening, but I gotta say that Jim Tyrell's SO BAD needs some horns from Dylan Nau or someone like that. It's so close to perfect, but I want it to build up and be full of all sorts of instruments by the time it gets to the last verse, and then drop back down to voice + piano for the last bit. Then it would be perfect. IMHO. But great job anyway.

Edit: the links to henrietta, J$, and Lunkhead are broke. Gotta take out the spaces or whatever at the end

Good stuff all round. I'm glad that all of you managed to do justice to a man who deserves this and much more for his music and general lovliness.

Also, wanted to thank secret-hxaro santa for organising such a stellar line up, (and me :) ) S/he suggested I do Lavender Splendour when i was angsting over which of many great KA songs I could massacre in my own inimitable style, and in the process I rediscovered what a brilliant, clever song it is. So thanks.

I am rocking to the Hell Yeahs again. Particularly like the lesbian under-tones (well, over-tones, I guess  ) and the vague Joan Jett feel, in a good way!

Wow!

I can't even begin to say how blown away I am by all this... I mean, just thinking that people all over the world have been working on recording this stuff is just amazing... I made a CD of all the songs and sat out on the back patio listening to them; there's a breeze up from Mexico tonight and it was so cool, sitting in the dark, hearing all these songs coming back at me.

I loved everything, but I have to admit: I've been humming "Troublemaker" to myself a lot lately, and hearing [Hostess'] Henrietta's version gave me chills.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this; special thanks to those who brought the MIDI against their better judgement

Yeah, agreed. Looks like everyone brought their A game.

Do we want reviews for these? Or should we just leave them be?

Jack: yes, correct, that should've said Henrietta...

C: I always thought one of the nice things about hxaro is that we DIDN'T review them... save the reviews for things with "fight" in the name. But I'm not in charge here...

Like Charles said, reviews aren't really necessary as the act is the good deed. But if you'd like to say nice things about something in particular, well, I'm sure that's always appreciated. Can't have enough nice remarks in the spirit of the secret hxaro :)

for me it wouldn't even take a feat of hxaro-ness to say only nice things. These are ALL great, every last one of them. It's really quite a collection.

I agree with Jim, every single entry here is awesome.

Troublemaker is such a gorgeous song, King Arthur. I'm really glad that Hostage and I had the opportunity to cover it.

I agree also that reviewing would be churlish. Anyone wants to know what I think of their song particularly, of course, let me know and I'll pm ya, or something...

As a continuation of the theme, does the poll seem a little unneccessary to anyone else?

I'll agree with that, J$. I don't think anybody did this to 'win'.
I've downloaded the covers and the originals. I'm burning a nifty 2-CD set now, and I get to listen today. Yay!
