all the more reason for him to do it. for his complete lack of talent as a singer, dylan wrote some decent songs, even if it did take the byrds, or jimi hendrix, or whoever, to show the world how good.

In the interests of discussion, rather than wanting to start a bitchslap session ....
john m wrote:The idea of barring someone because they are good so you have a chance to win is lame.
Agreed. Totally.
SongFight is far more about hearing good indie music than winning.
a) Tell that to the friend flooders, blog flooders et al.

b)If one chooses to enjoy SF as an audience rather than a competitor, that's absolutely fabulous, and most people who stay here go that way if they weren't there already, in my experience; but it's important we don't forget that the thing that brought all us musicians here was the chance to get heard and the belief we were good enough to win.
Make better music if you want a better chance to win.
This is essentially the worst advice you can give anyone, imo. Sounds reasonable but in reality is not only totally unworkable but could easily paralyse creativity.

'Better' is such an arbitrary and subjective term. For example, Jute Gyte makes brilliant music, so does King Arthur. So does Eddie Bangs. There is very little within their styles, from production to approach to lyrics and beyond, that you could say change this, make this 'better' - all are well-respected yet none of them have won a songfight (to my knowledge).

The logical extension of this advice this would be to change your creative process to incorporate the perceived most popular style, to thus garner the most votes. But of course that would kill your creativity, unless you are a musical dillitante.
Well, okay, get a mailing list, too.
I'm getting myself a spambot as we speak :)

Yeah it's funky and cool and rhythmic and I reckon you could do it justice. Don't take offence that it's a woman singing :)

Agreed, but there are ways to improve your songwriting to where people respect what you've done more than usual (sometimes to the point of voting for you). I'm certainly the furthest one can be from a country fan, but I think Brick Pig is a great musician, and I always enjoy hearing his entries. 'Better' -is- completely subjective, but if you're trying to make your music enjoyable anyway, why not try to assess what people like and don't like about your music? If the things people keep mentioning need improved don't contradict your musical beliefs or intended aim, I don't see a reason not to try to incorporate new methods in your musical process. (In short, taking advice does not necessarily compromise musical integrity.)

I also want to see the Hell Yeahs cover Liz Phair's "Supernova." It's too poppy as it stands. I think they might be able to do it better.

If people are interested in doing some clash covers, I stumbled across a pretty good tabulature page

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pa ... raphy.html

I tried a few of them and they're pretty accurate, compared to most on-line tab approximations. I guess the music's pretty simple :)

I would prefer to hear C Hack do Charlie Don't Surf actually. Or, if it wasn't so brit-referential, White Man in Hammersmith Palais.
Guns of Brixton - DOWNWITHGENDER featuring j$ on vocals
This is quite patently the most stupid idea I have heard for a very long time :) Anyway, I want to have a go at Bankrobber, some time soon. (After I make A-bomb's minute by tackling Typical Girls).

When I first read this, I mis-imagined a huge 3 day open air festival dedicated to the songs of His Name is Dan. Not such a bad idea, in retrospect ...

1- never speak of Rod Stewart's "Hang On St. Christopher" in my presence. That was blashphemy!!! Even the Bulletboys' version is more respectable.

2- Despite the fact that it's Rod Stewart, the song is very lyrically strong. So, I'd be curious to how it would sound with your musical inclinations. Plus, I would really like to hear you do a ballad that's full of emotion.
