and very understanding.

I'd just like to say that I hope every song sounds like Iron Maiden in this fight.

I always thought sonofsupercar sounded like Judas Priest meets Pavement.

It is safe to say that KH's entry sounds like Iron Maiden.... if they were on fire.... and glue.... and their way to a Pornography convention..... full of zombies.... who were also on fire...

After one listen, I've got to say:
Overnight Cobra's Iron Goddess is righteous. Jute Gyte still has that genre wrapped up, but this is damn fine.

1st impressions

Damien verret: so far so good, kinda reminds me of Jordan Seavers "we all need love" intro, but this one goes on just a touch too long. This song'd be ace but for a few technical points, the main synth is far too loud all the way through so turn that down, and it needs to drop out of the song somewhere as well cos it takes all the dynamics out of it as it is, even tho it plays some cool riffs. With a little more variation this'd be killer so I reckon you should write one more section and tweak the mix and structure a bit, it won't have any baring on the fight to be sure but you'd have a cool song that I'd consider paying money for.

Destruction Enterprise: IS this Rone Rivendale?, That sounds like him. if so, this is actually some listenable shit here. That ain't a bad loop at all, and a beat that actually works (okay the sounds aren't amazing but that's not important). The yet-to-be-perfected rapping technique sounds okay over a fairly solid base, that while it's not breaking any boundaries, doesn't make people roll around laughing too. If this isn't Rone, this is fine.

goddafeedabuttaflya: In the garden of eden baaaby, smooth. cool stuff, and the guitar harmonies are fantastic. I wish you could sing like Bruce Dickinson but hey.

Yay, Lonbobby are back and sounding atmospheric. This makes me wish I'd tried harder to make a submission. I like some of those percussion sounds, and I hope nobody complains about the autotune cos as an effect it suits this really well. Good, but doesn't blow me away as a song. (sorry to end on a negative I DO like this  )

:) didn't even have to check the title to know this was the man Henley of the Luke variety. and I'm not gonna review this now because it's not a song designed to be liked on 1st listen and I wanna say something that'll be useful in the context of all yer other stuff, knowharrimean?

MELVIN! Need to listen to this more too, but straight off I love the Sha-lala's. I'd really like to write a song with you in homage to backing vocals all over the world.

Overnight: Thank fuck, this fight was turning out a bit filthless and fluffycore without this. so I admit I don't own any grindcore albums, not sure what the point of shot-drumming is (killing braincells?) and this sounds way tinny, but that aside nice work.

Paragraphun(i)t: you scamps, the bid for anonimity is blown out of the water by the track exceeding 6 minutes. Very much more my kind of filth, dirgy and plodding drums with some nice crunchy chugs - and some weird kind of susumu yokota fairy stuff in between. Fugazi gone sad-prog-core. I'll come back to this later

PYF (feat. Niveous): Interesting change of direction. too much to take in in one go. nice breakdown.

Psychotic Kinks: this is really really really Cake, and I half expect you to say "we've never bought anything by them!" and if that is the case then they've definitely crept into yer subconcious somewhere. But this is neat, tidy and perfectly hummable + it's got a cool guitar solo and ending so balls to everything else.

sosc: you lot are pretty cool; this is reminding me of GBV and something else less lo-fi. guitars sound nice, good drumming and recording, swell.

This is my first time reviewing. I made it a point to say something positive about everyone and comment on something that could be improved for everyone. So, if what I say seems nit-picky, that just means your entry was really good. Here goes:

Damien: I dig the Nintendo-ish sounds. The intro may be a bit too long, though.

Destruction Enterprise: The synthy background is very cool. The vocals could be brought up a little and the vocal rhythms could be tightened up a bit.

Godda Feeda Butta Flya: I like the guitar riffs and solos. This song has a bit of a cheese factor to it. Was that intentional? If so, props to you. It made me chuckle. If not . . . sorry. Also, everything sounds a little distant. Perhaps too much reverb? I dig the ending. Is that a bunch of stuff in reverse? Whatever it is, it’s cool.

Lonbobby: I typically don’t get into this kind of electronic techno-y stuff, but I like this, so I guess that’s a big compliment. The string-like synth part is really surreal and pretty. This song could have picked up and rocked a bit more towards the end. That would be really dynamic. My favorite so far.

Luke Henley: The vocal harmonies seem a little out of tune. Otherwise, this is a good song. Good use of swelling and receding. I like that.

Melvin: I’m sure you know that this is right up my alley. I love the sha-la-la’s and really all of the background vocals. I’d love to hear some real drums with this (the drum machine sounds a bit toy-ish). Great tune, as always from you. Lonbobby has been knocked from the top for me.

Overnight Cobra: It might be my crappy computer speakers, but it seems that this song lacks a little low-end kick-in-the-ass. Other than that, though, this is a solid entry, even if the style isn’t exactly up my alley. Great solo at the end.

Paragraph Un(i)t: The vocals are a little out of control and all over the place for my tastes. I love the spatial-ness (lots of silence) of the guitars in the first section. I always think that's cool. All of the synth-y breakdowns are all around pretty cool. Overall, this song is a bit too avant-garde for me. But just ‘cause it’s not my kind of thing doesn’t mean it’s bad (that goes for Overnight Cobra, too).

Phunt Your Friends: I’m not digging that droning guitar (I think that's what it is) below everything. It’s too distracting. Otherwise, I like the melodies and the drum loops are cool.

The Psychotic Skinks: Unbelievable! You’ve managed to place yourself well into the camp of avant-garde and weird, yet you’re not at all sonically offensive or annoying to listen too. How very rare. Major, major points for that. If you shot those vocal harmonies up an octave (not both parts, just the harmony part), I think it would be a bit more clear and distinct. Right now it seems a bit muddy. There’s nothing wrong with they way they’re sung, harmonies just need to be farther apart when down low.

Son of Supercar: Very solid song. One of my favorites of yours to date. Some notes in the lead guitar seem a little sour to me. It not that they’re mistakes, just odd choices. The bass sounds cool. How’d you get that sound?

So, my vote goes to Melvin, as if he needs any more help.

Wait a minute, Melvin. I took a second listen. Is this song about me? :( That "key of G" bit is too much of a coincidence to not be. :)

OSAN: Thanks for the vote! Yes, your inadvertant borrowing of that melody last week provided the inspiration for my song this week! So call it a joint effort. I finally got myself some better drum samples, so hopefully that will fix my flaccid, toy-like drums, at long last.

So I'm not supposed to take offense to this? Right? Right? I hope? It's a playful joke, right? An indication that I'm in the club enough for someone to write a song about me? :?

I feel like a dumb-ass for not getting it on the first listen, but I usually take in the music before the lyrics. It's just how I listen.

Any chance you can post the lyrics? There are a few lines I can't make out.

Hahaha, that's genius! I really liked that "I've been bad in the key of G" line but I didn't get the joke 1st time round. I can't remember who mentioned it last week but is that the Pachabel's Canon melody creeping in there too, for forms sake. I'll be smirking to myself about this for days; if you don't get my vote for the song then you may for that (not that I want to turn this into In-Joke Fight). unless that Luke Henley track clicks with me before Friday.

Yeah, now that you mention it, he did use I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V. And now I get the "If we have a wedding, this will be our song" bit.

Yes, that's Pachabel's Canon you hear, and now the joke is out! But it's not meant to be mean OSAN, really. I'll post the lyrics in the appropriate thread shortly.

My reviews:

Damien Everett: As my furry friend pointed out, that main synth sound is too loud and a bit too constant to fully enjoy this otherwise very catchy tune. Somewhat reminiscent of Mr. Seaver’s greatest hit, and that’s a high compliment.

Destruction Enterprise: A rose by another name… I would recognize that voice anywhere. Well, the instrumental production is a big step up. On Rone’s verses, there are some rhythm/flow issues that need to be addressed, and there’s a loud hiss on the vocal track. On the other guy’s verses, there are also some rhythm/flow issues, but no hiss. As people who listen to music, I’m sure you two can hear these issues, so it really comes down to how many takes you are willing to do to get it right. My advice is: be willing!

GoddaFeedaButtafly: You guys sound like a bunch of drunk, stoned, long-haired, sex addicts. Cool! There aren’t enough of you around any more. Production sounds a little thin and weak overall, but it’s made up for by some awesome guitar tone and playing, plus that super-trippy reprise.

Lonlobby: I thank the Iron Goddess of Mercy that Fatboy Slim has finally disappeared into obscurity, but I can’t help drawing a comparison here. Maybe that’s a sign of my limited electro-pop knowledge. Nonetheless, this is catchy, and the production is rich. Nice job, I’d say.

Luke Henley: Your voice has really grown on me, and there’s some beautiful singing in this. Funny thing – your tunes always have this ragged and semi-random sound, yet I can’t help feeling that it’s purely by design, and that you could make them vacuum-tight if that’s what you actually wanted to do. You’re obviously really talented. Now stop being such a dick. Just kidding (about the dick part).

Melvin: With the topic of plagiarism coming up a lot last week, I decided to make it the theme of my song. I suppose the voters will decide if it’s clever or just cheating.

Overnight Cobra: YEAH! DRIVING ALL NIGHT IN MY COBRA MUSTANG GT!! Geez, this is punishing, which I like. However, the recording is really terrible, which I hate. I can only imagine what this would sound like with bass. Or maybe I’m afraid to.

Paragraph Un(i)t: Given my typical four-chord approach to making music, this track truly leaves me wondering how on Earth anyone comes up with stuff like this. It’s not overly pleasant to listen to, but it’s got about 1,279 distinct sonic ideas, and about 62% of them are really cool. Respect.

Phunt Your Friends: This might as well have been the soundtrack to the dream I had last night. I was welding stuff together in this massive Soviet factory (I think we were making some kind of heavy steel machinery or maybe hydraulics of some sort), when the assembly line mutated into this giant robot, and cornered me and my comrades in a corner of the B Wing. Just when we thought we were about to die, Fyodor got the bright idea to start dancing all crazy, which we did. To my surprise, the assembly line started dancing along with us, and we ended up partying all night. When the Foreman arrived in the morning and saw what had happened, he shot himself in the temple. Then I woke up!

Psychotic Skins: Generally, if I’m going to listen to a porno, I’d also like to be able to see the porno. But the harmonies in this are pretty interesting, and I like the little bendy things happening on guitar. The track definitely picks up towards the end, leaving me with a semi-favourable, but not fully satisfied, feeling.

Son Of Supercar:
This sounds pretty awesome! Great bass tone, strong drumming, cool guitar stuff, and nice singing. I think that covers just about every element. Yet, in typical pop-junkie fashion, I want a little more resolution from the overall composition. There’s an edgy, atonal tension building up for the entire song, and it never quite pays off in the way I’d like. Nonetheless, I’d still go to see this band live.

Jonas Murdock and The Child Inside – The song is kinda neat. The vocals are way low in the mix, I couldn’t make out what you were saying.

Destruction Enterprise – Rone’s vocal parts still have some rhythmic uncertainty, and the vocals are kinda… weak. The rapping is entirely too straight, couplet rhyme scheme over and over. The music is neat but kinda repetitive.

gottafeedabuttaflya - muthafuckin SABBATH! ROCK! Until the voice kicks in, of course, which is too theatric for my taste. I like the sound and the solo. Oooh, backwards vocals. Ultimately doesn’t do so much for me but I do appreciate that Sabbath groove.

Lonlobby – I like the vocoder sound, as I’m sure that others here don’t. The vocal melody and harmonies are pretty. There’s a little bit of muddiness on the vocals here and there but the production is impressive. Possible vote.

Luke Henley – I love those vocals, and the guitar playing. The rhythmic uncertainty can be a bit uncomfortable for me at times… I’m sure that’s just me though, and after a few listens, I got used to it and it started to feel natural. Those falsetto vocals sound perfect here, and the ending is very nice. I like it a lot. Possible vote.

Melvin – sounds like a Christmas song… ok, so it's a Christmas song AND pachelbel's canon, nevermind. Very nice song, regardless. I like the chorus and the backup vocals (and the lead too, of course, you have a good voice). You know how to keep it catchy and moving. Possible vote, with the rip-off and all.

Overnight Cobra – you are angry, good sir! This was the sound I was expecting all week. Like the guitar work and it sounds like your drummer got a workout. A+ for metal intensity.

Paragraph Un(i)t – fiery, sounds like you might be sincere as well. Ok, this wasn’t where I was expecting it to go at all, but it’s a nice diversion, sounds neat… back to the grunge. Goddamn, I love this guitar solo. That was a minute and a half and it didn’t feel too long at all. The ending is kinda wanky… fuck, nevermind, it just got good again. This is pretty damn great, guys. Likely vote. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get that music box sound?

Phunt Your Friends – those synthesizers feel massively disconnected from everything else in the entire song. It’s a neat effect though. Your vocals sound like a stumbling drunk... the low vocoded voice section is creepy-cool. I liked the song a lot better the second time I listened to it.

Psychotic Skinks – the guitar sound is kinda neat, I guess. I don’t care for those vocals. The guitar solo is solidly decent, and the song is thankfully short.

sonofsupercar – sounds just fine, it just doesn’t catch me at all. I do like that bass.

so, ranked:
1 Paragraph Un(i)t
2 Luke Henley
3 Lonlobby
4 Melvin
5 gottafeedabuttaflya
6 Phunt your Friends
7 Overnight Cobra
8 Jonas Murdock and The Child Inside
9 sonofsupercar
10 Destruction Enterprise
11 Psychotic Skinks

Gotta-Feeda-Butta-Flya singing Iron Goddess of Mercy = Iron Butterfly singing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I bought that Iron Butterfly album when I was first learning guitar and can totally hear the homage in your mix, even with little things like the left panned bass and late 60’s verb. I think the chorus is very "sunshine of your loveâ€

Yes, my first collab. And I believe it turned out decent.

For the record, Posyden did the music. So that's why it's a step up for me. I appreicate the comment that my lyrics sound better with a better beat. I mean I GUESS that's encouraging. It means if I learn music better that I can improve.

I do have a little problem of always doing the 4 line aabb structure to my rapping. It's just the way I've always done it in most of my songs. Before I composed music I wrote poems in H.S. And since poets aren't really up on the food chain in modern times, I decided to get into music.

The hiss I believe is the computer fan. I use a mic from my stereo that's plugged into the computer and the cord is fairly short. I can try my hardest in the future to minimize the computer fan sound but I'm afraid it would be very hard to eliminate it.

I'm currently listening to the songs myself. (I am going to actually review this time around unlike Red Door) Probably by tomorrow.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D
