I had my doubts about Life Aquatic, but I loved it, and continue to love it. It's not quite a Rushmore (favorite movie ever) or Royal Tenenbaums, but it's close enough. I think your feelings about it can be decided on how you feel about that scene at the end with the jaguar shark, and everyone's hands on Bill. If you thought it was moving and a fitting emotional climax, you probably like the movie. If you laughed and rolled your eyes (like a lot of people I know), you probably never bought into the film, and are likely a hater. Me? A

I also gave it a B. It was entertaining, but I think the central performances (Bill Murray and Anjelica Huston) were so detached and unemotional that it made it hard for me to give a crap about what happened to them. They were deliberately like that, I suppose, but that just didn't work for me. It looked amazing, of course, and the music was great, and I liked all the other characters (especially Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, and Willem Dafoe).

Overall I liked it, but it just didn't have "the heart" (to use a tired cheesy phrase) that Royal Tenenbaums or even Rushmore had. Royal Tenenbaums is one of my all time favorites. Every character in that movie is fleshed out really well and the acting is great. Everybody has a nice story arc. It just seemed a lot better conceived.

Oh man, that bit where they're all walking along the pier trying to look like reservoir dogs or something made me laugh so hard. and conceptually it felt like they were trying to make the worst soundtrack ever and yet it manages to top the Rushmore soundtrack which I thought was brilliant. Portuguese Bowie and Atari electro, they should've got an award for that

An utterly fantastic movie. It was like 'what would Tintin be like if he grew up' or 'what would life be like if it was made in the image of those vaguely educational comics from the 50s with cut-away views of submarines'.

Very enjoyable. Wistful, which is a good thing in movies. I give it an A-

Actually, thats how I felt. I didn't like it at all and was mad that even spent an hour and $3 on it. If I was a really angry guy...I would have thrown my beer or something

I'm with Hoblit on this one.

I love his other movies... was very disappointed by this one.

Then again, I see lots of movies, and hate most of 'em. I'm very tough on movies, for some reason.

And, yes, hallelujah for the 3$ "brew and views" of Stumptown! Beer numbs the pain!
