Ha! I was going to ask my wife to help out - but I assumed that would be breaking the rules. Now I assume it is a rule.

But can you please clarify - is it "opposite sex vocals" or "woman vocals". There is an enormous difference.

Bjam was still in this when they set the challenge. I'd guess that's where the wording came from.

That's correct. It's having a woman do the vocals (or at least some impersonation of one) on your song.

So, not only do I have to write and record a song, but I have to shanghai some innocent 'purdy yung thang' to sing it: OR buy tight underwear... Her indoors won't be pleased.

the challenge

Post by Ross »

I'm guessing that this is intentionally vague and there may not be an answer to this, but are we talking about lead vocals or any vocal performance?

I think it's safe to say "any vocal performance." If they meant "lead," that'd be so much of a stretch from the original rules that even Leaf's explanation wouldn't cover it. :P

So 'woman' won't include my 2-year-old daughter or Inky, my Schipperke bitch (er..thats a dog - though Inky My Schipperke Bitch could be a great title for a rap song) - who are of opposite sex to me - but not actually women.

...unless I get Inky to do an imitation of a woman

Why do you guys want to pin it down so tight? I am sure that any creative response to the challenge will be appreciated by the judges. Don't box us in with these queries.

yeah.... so clearly CLEARlY they also mean "you can sing too, as long as a member of the opposite sex's vocals are on there".

Cause I'm torn between doing a duet with my wife and just having her do it all... and by do it all I mean... ah...ahem.

"Non-optional Challenge: Opposite Sex Vocals"

you may try to fake this but it better be a good fake.

and to clarify. any vocals, not necessarily lead. it just has to have some female (or a good impersonation of) vocals somewhere in the song.

It looks like I've stumped the Nur Ein with the immunity question this week. So here's another hint:

Both of the bands that remain after the end of the two previous bands both have Greek/Roman references in their name.

We finally have a winner. Deshead has earned himself immunity.

Let's work our way to the answer:

The two bands with the greek/roman reference names are The Mars Volta and Sparta. (2 much hyped bands)

They both came from the band At the Drive-In (another much hyped band).

Now in my clue, I said think Afro. And who has a better white boy 'fro than ATDI and Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala?
Image

And before ATDI, he was in a band called....The Fall on Deaf Ears. The band only recorded 6 songs before two of the members- Sarah Reiser and Laura Beard died in a car accident in 1996.

Post Parlo records released the songs and that's the album in the picture.

The answer: The Fall on Deaf Ears.
The immunity winner: Deshead.

For the curious
Here's a link to their tune: Your Refelection
