There's always something to be curmudgeony about. Could be wiseasses, dumbasses, the young, the old, oranges, wallabies, Kool-Aid, Mad TV, The lack of pirates on daytime television, etc.
A true curmudgeon can be cantankerous about anything. Now get off my lawn, ya whippersnapper!

Correct, which was my point, which was why I chose two examples of people not generally held to be good who are nonetheless noteable but not included in the list. (although you could have called me, correctly, on my choice of goberoo as he has never entered a songfight during his democratic attempts to be considered part of the community.)erik wrote:notable does not mean good.
Noteable is a subjective role call in this example. I would disagree with you about who should be on the list, as Kellis would disagree with me, and so on. Simpler to either include everyone (unless they request to be removed) or include no-one. Which is what I said in my post.
This is not dissing the wiki in particular; it's just that I find this kind of exercise irritating and prone to collapsing in on itself. Which is why I said it is "usual" complaint.
Maybe I'm missing your point. Well, no, clearly, I am, unless you are now gonna post 'Was I talking to you?" [/feed]

and there's even the ability to add information about each artist and cross-reference them to other artists! how cool.
and if that isn't enough, lots of encyclopedic knowledge can be filed here:

cool, huh?
the .org artist archive listing is opt-in and it doesn't include the data from the two links you posted.one source of info instead of cross-referencing the archive and the forum and somebody's personal site.

but those two threads are buried within the forums, only to be summoned once every 6 months or so. and they're very disorganized, so it's unlikely that you'll be able to find what you're looking for. the wiki, if used properly, gives the structure and searchability that the forums don't have. (and don't post a link to the search function. that thing doesn't search very accurately.) it's an encyclopedia of songfight, not just a couple threads about specific things.tviyh wrote:i just found out something pretty cool. there is a huge list of all the songfight artists here:Niveous wrote:it's curmudgeon day.

I would also like to point out for those of you who feel the need to ammend it, Jonny Juice and the Good Time Boys has no h in Jonny. Jonny, not Johnny. It is a spelling mistake that stuck.
That is probably something I should put in the Wiki entry...

I mostly put in basic beginner stuff. It always seems to me when I'm listening to SF! that there could be a huge improvement in the overall recording quality of the songs if people just had a few pieces of basic info. Maybe we can collect all that info and refer people to it.

OK, for the zillionth time...what is the list of all songfighters doing on the wiki at all? Its at songfight.org and it gets updated, like, almost automatically. There is ABSOLUTELY no value to it. Fuck completionism. If you have a profile to add (which also resides at songfight.org, but harder to maintain. So shouldn't we be lobbying the dictators at songfight.org to add a link to the wiki profile?) then add it.
I like that the wiki has extra info and is more dynamic.
I also think the value of this wiki, in the long run, will have less to do about fucking profiles, and more about the how-tos. So let's get to work on helping each other (and noobs) make better music.
sorry, had a drink or two in Mexico

Personally I'm waaay more interested in the wiki as a knowledge base about writing, performing, and recording music, than as an encyclopedia of SongFight! lore. But the cool thing about it is that it can be both!
I really like the idea of having a link to the wiki on the artist pages in the archive, though. The great thing about that is that the link can be generated automatically, for everybody, regardless of whether there's already a wiki page for an artist or not. Then if an artist or his/her fans want to populate the wiki page they can do so freely.

What is the list of all fighters doing there? Simple. After it's cleaned up, it can give some uniformity in article naming- so we don't end up with an article on 15-16 puzzle and one on 15-16 Puzzle. Maybe it's all for my own sake because i'm more interested in telling stories of songfighters than making a music production guide. If that's what you're into, then do it. It's a wiki. It's communism at its best. It's owned by all and can be changed with by all. I'll focus on profiles. You can do musicology. We can live amicably on the wiki and not have to discuss the hell out of it on this thread.

Yeah, it's all Erik's fault!
I was just worried about the redundancy and maintenance overhead. But you're right, Niv, we can all do what we want and make it as complete as we each feel it needs to be. But it does get back to who will maintain it after your interest wanes, and who after that? Since it says "complete list" or something there's a big chance it will fall out of sync. I do like that it should be unique entries per artists, and therefore different than the Song Fight Archives.

It'll be a while before I lose interest in this. When I say that I live for this kind of stuff, I really mean it. If you were to look on my bookshelf at home, you'll find some fine literature but you'll also find stuff like The Marvel X-Men Encyclopedia, The Star Trek Next Generation Episode Guide, The Pro-Wrestling Almanac, The Christgau Record Guide, Stairway To Hell, et cetera. Gathering information is something I really dig. I have already had a blast doing this. Like when I did the Klownhole entry, I did a lot of research (quick research but research nonetheless). I don't foresee losing interest anytime soon because this is my sort of thing.
