Camp Fight!

Post by roymond »

Spent the weekend in the Catskills with some old friends and brought along the Steinberger and delays to jam with George and his midi horn controller...a truly fantastic instrument, and he's quite amazing on it. The little cube amps are impressive. Couldn't record the ambient jams we had in the woods, but here are some pictures.

Who else jams in the forest? What are good potable instruments for camping or for work travel, since I may have a year on the road ahead of me? The Steinberger is great, with its graphite neck and all. It got very cold at night.

I have a Boss BR-532 Digital 4-track recorder. I used it to record all my SF songs up through I Know My Rights, I think. It runs on AA batteries, and I imagine something like that would be fun to bring out camping. An on-location AAD, maybe.

When in the woods, I think you should be more concerned about potable water than potable instruments.

If you have a laptop, the M Audio Mobile Pre USB is a cool little 2-track interface that's bus-powered. 16-bit, but it'll get the job done for wilderness excursions.

Yeah, lots of recording stuff, sure. We brought a Line 6 looper thing and a Pandora's box multi-effects thing and George played through a brilliant little sound source for his midi horn. It lends itself to ambient looping and wailing rather than house beats. Sort of Fripp & Eno meet John James Audubon.

Neat, too bad you didn't record it.
Going to do it again sometime?

Dr. Spectacular's Power Circus' first concert was in a forest.
