Yep. My new Aussie Shepherd puppy! We named her Kaylee, but for the past 24 hours I've been calling her Pancake....

I'm hoping this didn't involve a passing tractor trailer (in which case you'll need a new name soon).

If you give pets 'real people' names, you'll get confused when you go out and you hear some parent yelling for their kid called Kaylee.

So go for Pancake.

That's true... Or like when an old friend of mine announced that she named her daughter Georgia, I fought the temptation to say "That's my cat's name, too!"

We had a dog named Blackie. She was black. But in the late 60s it probably wasn't all that cool to be running around yelling "Blackie! Get back here, Blackie!". Still true today of course...Black Hole would have worked better, but I hadn't yet been sucked into the sci-fi fold. And she was my brother's dog. My cat YoYo presented fewer issues.

I agree with Bjam about less identifiable names. I'm chuckling over Waffle! Every member of my family has a waffle iron.

I voted pancake without actually knowing what the poll was for. But now that I know, I'm even more in the 'pancake' corner. Of course, my fondness for pancakes is fairly well documented.

There's no Kaylee songfight...but there has been "Prayer for pancakes". Pancake all the way!

Hmm, before reading I voted Kaylee because she's on Firefly and terribly cute.
I guess I'm in the minority, though...

You are not in the minority when it comes to thinking Jewel Staite is cute.

I've always been curious why those dogs are called Australian Shepherds.
I've never seen one in Australia - and I'm pretty sure several billion sheep would say likewise.

Kelpie's are the local breed of choice sheep-herding. Border collies are also very popular

I think the Kelpie and the Blue Heeler are the only genuine Australian breeds of dog.

When I had my alpaca farm, I had a Maremma Sheepdog named Chief as my stock dog. Chief is now an overweight retired city dog.

Chief was named after the nickname of the front-row forward for the Newcastle Knights rugby league club. I've named all my male animals after footballers.

You should give her an Australian name - like Kylie.

I voted both because I see nothing wrong with a pet having two names. Our cat's name is Ornette, but I never call him that anymore. I call him Mister Kitty.

Yeah, I read Australian Shepherds actually originated in Spain. I don't get that either.

So, now Scott wants to name her "Shikibu". Maybe we'll call her "Shikibu Pancake", although I like "Pancake Kaylee McGee". It has that certain somethin somethin'. (no, our last name isn't really McGee. I just like sayin' it. )
