Organizing Music Files

So I signed up for Napster to go a couple days ago and now i have like 1500 songs in my My Music folder. It seemed to me that Windows used to oranize this folder by creating folders for each artist/album automatically, but now i just have all these individual files floating around. Is there a setting to do this that I'm overlooking or does Windows no longer do this? And if not, anyone know any good freeware that does?

I think Windows does that if you're ripping songs from CD with Windows Media Player... but I don't think there's anything in the explore windows themselves that automatically organizes files like that.

Do the files have sufficiently "intelligent" filenames that you could write a little perl script to make folders and move them around? That's probably what I would do faced with a situation like this...

The file names are sufficiently intelligent, though I don't know that I am lol. I've never done anything in PERL.

Of the "billions" of programs out there I found 0 using that search. Call me retarded. There's a lot that organize your music from within a program but I didn't see any that actually generated folders and moved files around.

no. because itunes rules. it's ipods and mp3 players in general that i don't like.

Windows Media should be able to automatically organize files with ID3 tags into its own library. If you've downloaded a bunch of new tracks and they're not showing up automatically, go to your "Media Library," and there should be a button that says "Add." Mine has a green plus sign, but yours might not, because I'm intentionally using an old version. It should give you a list of options with which you can find the folder into which you've downloaded all your new stuff. Presto.

Well, if you're using Napster to Go, then those music files are playable only on your Plays For Sure device or on your Napster-authenticated computer. Why not ignore the folder-full-of-files and rely on your MP3 player to organize the songs for you via it's library functionality?

Winamp, for example, will show you a browsable list of music files once you show it where the files are living. They don't need to be organized in the folder on your hard drive.
